RIP Greg.. I was there in the early days in Berkeley & Oakland Ca with Jimmy"Chopmaster J" Dright and Shock G before Money B, DJ Fuze, Tupac and the other cast of characters. Those were some great times before the money and fame. And when the money and fame came those were some special times too.

@@alansmithee3236 You not knowing the Bay Area music scene, especially back then. These entertainers were not hollywood, well most of them wern't. It was a open scene, all you had to do was pull up. Go look at those old videos... entire neighborhoods in the background. Wasn't a big deal bumpin' into any of them. And for as big as the Bay Area is, its interconnected so its not surprising when you run across them casts of characters. And if you were really out there in the mix, you have dozens of stories about run ins with all those music camps. Dangerous Music, Sick wit it, Digital, No Limit, Filmoe folks, Santa Rosa people. Those were special times indeed. I get a chuckle how the media treatment and industry make some of these cats look. But to me some of them is that faded dude at the function sleeping on the couch... Point is, most these most entertainers in the Bay Area are approachable and regular people you run into all the time. Might even be extended fam.

It's videos like this that makes UA-cam a blessing. I just wish the video was 5 hours long I want to know it all. Digital Underground was an enigma to us on the East Coast. Also, all my favorite artists and producers were P-Funk influenced E Sermon, Redman, Keith Murray, PMD etc... When Hip Hop lost the funk it went downhil.

What a quality interview by some true Funkateers. I love the fact that broman Shock G was just really trying to give p funk its due... back in 85. To me, P funk was the blackest music that we ever created. And it was instantly cosmic because it hits you in your nose area. That's the reason why we call it a "funky."
It's because it had the physiological response of making us not only turn up our nose but squint our eyes in the exact same area where the third eye was. That's what makes it a cosmic groove, instantly a cosmic groove.
