  • I finally did it. I've been putting it off, afraid that I would wreck my beloved 06 650i by not being able to complete this challenging job. Here is the saga start to finish. It was a successful surgery (spoiler!). If I can do it, so can you. Be sure to get good European seals and avoid fighting with the China seals. La Bomb Ba is back!

This finally fixed my 650i. Well worth the effort. Let's Go!

Hello , was it enough to just add the coolant and start it? no vacuum circuit pressurization? I changed the thermostat now and I have to top up the fluid

@Tony-oz7jf as I recall, I filled it, then warmed it up (idle), cycled the heater off and on while sealed and pressurized, then let it cool off and checked the level. It took a couple of efforts, and then all seemed good and stable.

@carguy4580 so far, so good. Daily driving the 650i. My X5 has started leaking from the transfer pipe though, so I'll be doing the job again on that car soon. Going to see if I can do it much faster (now that I'm an experienced amateur). Thanks for commenting! Be sure to order the good seals if you are doing this yourself. The Chinese seals that come with the kit are trash.
