My Mom passed 7 years ago, I still hear her telling me things. She and I had a love of gardening, and I think of her ALL the time. Let the tears fall sweetie… don’t push yourself. Let your grief process cycle. Think of her while you decorate. She would like that I’m sure. I will be praying for you.

Lauren, I don’t know how you’re doing all of this. Been there with the loss of both of my Parents not that long ago. But as a Women ,we are somehow built to cope with more than God gives us. That water break is actually a blessing in disguise, married to. Contractor for 40 yrs . Certainly the living in a catastrophe was the norm for many many months while redoing our Farmhouse. You all still have a hard weekend coming up with your Moms service. Lean into all the love and support for that. We are NOT ABANDONING YOU EVER!!! You have made some very dedicated followers. We love you unconditionally. And will always be here for you and your family.
I agree that dark floors would have looked nice, but this color will be so much easier to keep clean and not show dust. It looks lovely.
Your choice of flooring is beautiful. You wont get tired of it and it looks cleaner than a dark floor . Don’t second guess yourself. ❤
I'm really loving the floors!! I know your husband wanted the darker but the darker shows every little spot of dust dog hair cat hair etc. The blonde flooring will be very forgiving with a large family with pets. Plus it looks beautiful 🤩

I also didn’t do much decorating for Halloween. I just didn’t have it in me. But I am SO ready to get the holidays in swing so you have a friend in me!

Put your formal dining room in the back area where you have the Chimney period where you have your dinette set. Make it a little sitting area with a small TV. You already have a living room you don’t need 2 big sitting areas.
The floors look gorgeous. You can always accent with darker rugs, furniture, etc. Dark floors, and I know from experience, show every crumb, piece of dust, lint, pet hair, etc. While you need time to grieve and process your Mom's passing, it is good to hear you talk about her and share your memories. The ancient Egyptian civilization believed that you never die as long as someone speaks your name. That is so true as the memory of the person lives within you and talking about those memories provides you with an outlet for your grief. Blessings.

So sorry for the hard times. I lost my mom when I was 20, it was such a complex and difficult time. To lose the person that gave me life. Be gentle and forgiving to yourself. The pain eventually begins to recede.

Lauren, I do see what you mean about the floors, they seem pale, but here is an idea. Use the wood tones from the island as inspiration to possibly stain them a bit more to not look so modern. Also for the staircase. It seems the two main things keeping the home from the French country vibe is the black staircase and the black dinner table if you switch those two out it will definitely make a difference. The black fireplace in the den stands out kinda modern but that island can be used for the new tones for flooring and staircase and dining table maybe that can be painted.
Please let yourself grieve wherever and whenever you need to. My mom has been gone for 27 years and I miss her every day. The perfume reminded me that I have wandered around a store because I smelled her perfume!! I find it comforting. Take it one day at a time and just be whatever you need to be that day.
I'm really glad that the leak came before you did all the flooring, even though the timing was still terrible. I can't imagine having all of that along with losing your mom, and just getting back to work full time. While it's annoying having stuff unfinished, most of it really can wait so you don't have to push so hard.

Love love love your new floors. We have dark tile floors and they’re horrid to keep clean and make the house dark in the front room. You made the right decision. Your new floors are gorgeous and have a light country french feel. They will also have a beautiful airy feel with rugs that you put down. God bless you! I know you’re going through a tough time. Your island gone makes that space so much brighter! I love tor console being used as a table, it’s perfect French farmhouse. I would suggest a thick piece of glass on top to see the rustic surface but have the durability and ease of cleaning. Practical and still preserving the look of it.
Also, as for not having a dining and also the small table area that is adjacent to your peninsula, perhaps removing that peninsula return and instead, bumping down the kitchen to that space, and having the u shape in the breakfast nook altogether would allow your sink and dishwashers to fit in that snug, maybe a bifold window to open into the kitchen garden, but also means you could put up a wall to create a pantry where your fridge and oven is currently. Bumping the kitchen down to house the pantry on the same side would allow your big pantry to be removed and remodelled into a larger open family room and dining space!! Some
Configuration would allow you to have your long sit down table within that open family room and make use of the kitchen garden connection. Just a suggestion.

Hi Lauren, my condolences first of all. Hope you will take your time to heal. As for the floors: with animals and kids light floors are better. You would have gone crazy seeing all the marks/dust etc on it all the time. They never seam clean enough. Yours are the same as mine and I love them. A big hug from Portugal 🇵🇹

Your house is already grand and 4 children call for a more whimsical, kid-friendly space. Dark floors would make it too serious. Also, don't give up on Autumn Lauren. I love the flooring, bring in dark colours with deep detailed rugs in both living spaces. Also maybe a deep oaky look table for the breakfast area. Tapestries are also great for colour and depth. The kitchen island is perfect ❤️

I think 🤔 the dark 🌑 flooring would of been stunning with the chandelier, and white furniture! However for me I like the flooring that has dark and light tones, so you have the best of both worlds.

The year after my mom died, both my dad and I separately decorated our houses for Christmas the week before Halloween. Something about Christmas makes grieving more comforting? I get it. The house looks great, and I’m looking forward to us decorating the holidays together

Dark floors show everything...lots of cleaning. The light wood makes it look more light and airy.

Lauren, my heart goes out to you and your wonderful, loving family. The loss of your mom is so difficult to process, especially with all the renovation (flood) happening. Your floors are beautiful! They make your home so light and fresh. Your decision was made when the dark sample showed the footprints. I love the idea of decorating with soft neutrals since they’re calming, lovely, welcoming and happy. I did the same; white, cream, some tan, gray, and with accents of blues (but I live on the water - it’s coastal). French country decor has blue; think toile. You have enough fall decor for Halloween, as well as Thanksgiving. I agree, you need to transition right into Christmas now, then you will be giving yourself a bit of extra time, which is well needed. (Editing to say yes, to different bar stools for the kitchen)
