Before the MCU the Avengers were not that big in Marvel. In fact the team was considered the 'dumping ground for characters who sell, but don't sell enough to maintain their own books.' Iron Man included in that.
So glad Tom Cruise didn't become our Tony Stark, part of the greatness of the MCU's Iron Man is RDJ's career comeback that it helped bring about and just how perfect his personality is for the character. What a good choice.
Well Iron man is not the only thing that marked RDJ's comeback. Tropic Thunder came out same year and it is was a succesful comedy and just year after that Sherlock Holmes came out which was massive success. It had same succes as Iron Man.
Marko Todorovic yeah, I'll agree that it wasn't the only thing, but it has become pretty synonymous with it. And I definitely know some folks who would have had no interest in Iron Man if not for it being one of the first big things RDJ did since his rehabilitation and step back in to limelight. I'll always give more credit to Downey and his story being the perfect trigger for Iron Man's, and Marvel's, success, not so much the help it gave him, though it really did I'm sure. He would have had an awesome comeback probably no matter what, Iron Man... Eh. I think it needed him to be the success that it was. Just chance that it happened to be the perfect match for both parties timing and character-wise, imo.
Don't forget Tony Stark had a relationship with one of the X-men - Emma Frost. They can't show it in the movies due to the fact Fox still has rights to many of the X-Men, including Emma. Still, it would have been fun seeing the two together in the movies.
Just to clarify here, Iron Man was added to as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in March 2013 - nearly a whole year before Marvel began marketing the Guardians movie, so I don't see how this was done just as a cash grab for movie goers, especially when he had left the team before Guardians was marketed as well?
Speaking of what happened to Tony, between the end of superior iron man and the beginning of time runs out? His personality essentially returned to normal without explanation
Kris Kream not really Tony's personality remained inverted in the rest of the New Avengers series and in the prelude to Secret Wars. He returned to normal for his series written by Bendis.
Neither was it explained what happened with Havok and Wasp. Marvel just was a mess back then ... and it's still is a mess now but that last one is debatable.
I've done some research, and apparently some people think he was still inverted during time runs out, and while I do agree he was more of a jerk than his usual self, he's not full on evil during time runs out

#1...... Iron isn't the best metal to make a humanoid exoskeleton, with heavy artillery on it.😐 #2....... Iron isn't the only component of Stark's suit, it's just 40% - 50% of total armour, so why just iron man not iron silicon man.😐
Nope. Original Iron Man was metallic gray, just like the movie. Then he was fully gold in the issue after. Then 8 issues later was, he got his first red and gold armor.
No. Nope. Nuh-uh. The movie version was based on the comic version. Go read "Annihilation: Conquest" (2007) and "Guardians of the Galaxy [Vol 2, Issue #1]" (2008). The first GotG movie didn't release until 2014. Does WhatCulture Comics ever research anything?
I'm really happy tom cruise and nic cage didn't do an Iron Man movie cause they are shit at what they do. I agree with Hambone Fakenamington with RDJ's persaonlity to play Tony Stark.

Iron man was my favourite before the MCU
Now they are the super hero genre

Robert Downey, Jr. is actually Tony Stark in disguise.
Benji Todtenhagen wrong. Tony Stark is actually Robert Downey Jr. in disguise
He's just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude
Clearly that wasn't in the list for being too obvious.
How is Tony stark being based on Howard Hughes at all mindblowing?
"Iron Man merged with Green Lantern".....
The Fanfic is strong with this statement....
Nick Cage as Iron Man would be hilarious
Iron Man when he sees the Mandarin: No not the rings! Not the rings!
Nice to know that Tony Stark was based off of an industrialist. It suits his character.
Speaking of what happened to Tony, between the end of superior iron man and the beginning of time runs out? His personality essentially returned to normal without explanation
scarlet night Fair question...though it may have just run out. Sabretooth is un-inverting as well.
Stark retains his inverted personality but still operated as a hero, I guess
Kris Kream not really Tony's personality remained inverted in the rest of the New Avengers series and in the prelude to Secret Wars. He returned to normal for his series written by Bendis.
Neither was it explained what happened with Havok and Wasp.

Iron Man wasn't obscure to anyone who grew-up in the 90s and saw the cartoon.
Larry Lieber is Stan lee's little brother so the family had a part in the first appearance of iron man
Iron lantern should be greenman.
You mind if I do a little dancing?
Am I the only one around here who think Iron Man character is the reason behind Robert Downey Jr's success?? Tom Cruise can also be good.
