IMHO one of the best ever coronation songs, and best ever performances. I believe she had a cold at the time, and obviously that affected her delivery - but she couldn't exactly reschedule the broadcast date, so she gave it her best shot, and I think that is brave and beautiful. And even if sometimes it sounds like she's screaming, who cares? Music is not about perfect acoustic production - it's about projecting the kindness and warmth of your heart - and I think she achieved that. Thank you Katherine McPhee - you are AMAZING! :-)

Her mom's face at 2:48 almost brings tears to my eyes. Katharine was such an amazing singer she should have won. You can tell just how proud her mother is that her and her daughter's dreams are coming true right before her eyes.
I was shocked and dissappointed when the judges slammed Katharine after this performance. They said the song was not that good. She didn't write the song; it was pre-chosen. I really like this song and I think she did a great job with it. I think she should have won. I mean, who listens to that spazz Taylor Hicks anyway? Just my 2 cents.
I love how she smiles the whole time she was singing.... during her season I felt she was over-qualified for it... and I so bummed that Smash only have two seasons...
I felt that she should have won period!! She was very versatile and even though she had Small bumps in the road, overall, she sang her butt off every week! She and Paris should’ve faced off in the finale. They would’ve given us a show to remember.

It was fate - Hicks made nothing of himself and Kat went on to success. It's happened here in the uk on a number of occaisions. all good things come to those that deserve the recognition. If you ask me it's also down to some dubious tv voting rigging.

Actually, Tayor was not dropped. He got out of that deal with Clive for breach of contract. The current situation is that he is recording the next album with new management with total control and independence on it and J has first dips on it when it was done. He has the right of refusal and can arrange to have it distributed by another label if he so chooses. It's a great deal anyway you look at it. The CD will be out in the summer.
im so glad that taylor won becuz it iz mostly that the runner ups become more famuos i remember the season finalle. i wuz sitting there with my friendz and we were all holding hands cuz we wunted kathrine to win and when they said taylor hicks we started cussing at the tv and my friend caught it on tape

The only reason 'voters' have any say is because the producers know it is those people's dollars that will keep the cash cow fed until next season.

And she still outsang Taylor Hicks. He just had more energy, and being "Idol" was more important to him and that came across. Kat was content with being #2
I've now accepted that Taylor Hicks was the fourth best singer behind Elliot, Chris, and Katharine. Taylor won because he had the most charismatic personality of the bunch.
Katharine had burst a blood vessel in her vocal chords, and on the day if the finale, she had really bad allergies and lost her voice. She could barely talk let alone sing. They had to give her a cortizone shot for her chords, which made her voice passable, but yeah it was really hurting. It was really dangerous of them to give her the shot because they aren't healthy for the voice.
Elliot has a song that I keep hearing on the radio (I can't recall the name) and I think it's really good. Elliot had the voice just not the personality.
I remember all the press quoting the AI staff saying that she was a complete nightmare/diva, and even though she was a great performer/singer on stage.. backstage she was a tyrant.
