This one time someone in my office burnt popcorn in the microwave and set the building fire alarm off and we had to evacuate the building, a 6 story building! The fire Dept had to clear the building before we could go back in. The smell was horrible. I can't imagine what this smells like.
It’s possible. I’ve helped do it on a much larger scale. It was a nightmare. Problem is the grain keeps airspace down in the pile so there’s always enough oxygen to keep it smoldering
2:30 ish suction machine with 3 cyclone filter to keep dust to a minimum!!! Hahaha no dust coming from it but heaps of dust coming from the discharge auge😷😷😷😷😷
Is that corn just garbage then, or can it be used for something? How about the bin? can it be fixed? couldn't this be prevented with temp probes or something? If that bin is 250000 bu, how much would the bigger one beside it hold?
At 8:51ish I’ve found the ignition source the guy with the hose in hand and cigarette in mouth Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
The blurring method of separating segments is unpleasant to viewers. You can get an editing function which swipes one segment offscreen while drawing in the next scene to coincide with the exiting shot.
Fluffy Floofer Bushel, traditionally 8 dry gallons or about 35 liters, but today it is often defined by a set nominal weight for a given commodity product that approximates those volumes.
A cheaper alternative: cover the entire silo with plastic, hook up some massive air pumps, and suck out the majority of the oxygen over the course of a day or so...any ember will be extinguished. Solved for 1/10 the cost of this operation....you're welcome.
using a demo saw without wearing safety pants that stop the blade incase of a mishap. this needs to be taken into consideration. i worked for a scrap metal recycling company. they didnt buy the pants until a accident happened.
The narrator is very very enthusiastic I give him a 10 for enthusiasm
Daddy Steel is it a robot? Sounds enthusiastic enough to be
LOL, I fell asleep on the computer and broke the keyboard
And Daddy. Steel gets a 10 for sarcasm.
Daddy Steel 10 on a scale of 💯
@8:59 the corn is already on fire, it should be safe to smoke in here.
jrmagnum ghjhhj
jrmagnum - I’m saying to myself, “tell me he’s not smoking”. lol
This must happen a lot to have all of that special tools and ramps and equipment handy .
Truly interesting. I wonder if the level of the guy's voice would go up if they were dealing with Pop Corn instead?
Narrator was clear and to the point. A lot of whining about it for no reason.
This guy has reached pro level to reading kids to sleep at night.
The trade off is deadpan narrators usually know their shit.
I've just discovered a cure for insomnia,this guy's voice.
Blowing a nitrogen blanket on top and you won't have to worry about oxygen getting to the hotspots
andy keller that will keep the fire to a minimum but it will still smolder.
Cannot believe there is an employee smoking during this. Smoking and grain dust do not ever go together
Great video. That looks like dangerous work. I bet that your business has over $1,000,000 invested in equipment.
Must have been close by to get an operation like that up & running in time to avoid further damages.
So this caught on fire just from sitting? No ignition source, just the weight of the corn sitting on itself caused it to spontaneously combust?
Interesting!
If this was popcorn I'd bring a dump truck full of salt and a tanker full of melted butter and we'll have us a party. Woohoo!
Dude smoking a cigarette at 8:55. Smart.

I understand it's a HUGE volume, but is it possible to introduce nitrogen rich air to slow/stop the fire?
They would need tanker trucks full of nitrogen and the silo is vented. It could be done but it would take a long time to cool off.

Where was this filmed? Fascinating operation!
biskit84 You need to get out more.

AL M lots a of questions yes anything can be fixed that's the only answer I have for u
Thanks, I agree. With enough money anything can be fixed, anything but a dead horse. I was hoping that maybe Dennis Gregersond would reply.
It can always be used for Feed, or possibly Ethanol Fuel. Depends what kind of Corn it is.

How much money did this project cost?
I wonder if it smells like burnt popcorn?
Anyone for smoked corn chips?
You know you have big silo when you can drive a loader in it
scary, if you have ever been around a dust explosion you would know
What's that unit of measurement, bushles? Never heard that before.
Fluffy Floofer Bushel, traditionally 8 dry gallons or about 35 liters, but today it is often defined by a set nominal weight for a given commodity product that approximates those volumes.
Where did you guys find this guy doing the talking? Sounds like a robot. Very boring to listen to him!!
Mark Verloop hey thats grandpa
That sounds nothing like a robot voice
Just a dude that seen it all and won't mind just dying right about now.
Did not know this was a thing.

True that.
Cause you shit your pants?
250,000 bushel? I doubt it's over 25000 bushel
Patrick Hickey that big loader would barely fit into a 25k bushel bin.
A 25k bushel bin would roughly be 36 feet in diameter
8:08 that loader needs a rear weight
Interesting, but I won't be watching any more, that voice over is horrible.
I hope someone brought salt and butter!
Corn for supper but it’s not corn on the cob
Excuse me but I have been watching cartoons for years… fire and corn… that means pop corn… what no butter and salt… LMAO. Reality check.
Popcorn anyone?
Boring!!!
