I spotted this little cascading run in Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover Live from Austin, and thought actually that's a much better way into unlocking this than some ridiculously long and fast line...

There is nothing like Eric Johnson playing the pentatonic runs, sounds so clean effortless and that too at such high tempo
The "wow" I was saying to myself during your intro piece, and my smile of enjoyment, reminded of the first time I heard "Cliffs" or Carlton's "Room 335". Well done! -Tom
You're a fantastic player. Timing, aggression, tone and melodies are incredible.
Troy Grady’s course is amazing and the best takeaway I got from it was the 2-note sweep texture that is lacking from most player’s versions of EJ licks. I used to alt-pick those things but learning that was the most beneficial thing to get closer to nailing it.
Yes, although Andy Wood and Joe Bonamassa both nail that sound alternate picking it so I suspect the key is to really hear the tumbling quality of the cascade and replicate that regardless of how you pick it…
Thank you.
I also have to thank Bob Bullock Jr for introducing me to Eric Johnson’s music.🙏
Summer of 1990. Austin, TX.
Eric loved his 5-note chunks - as Troy Grady calls them - the 15-12 14-12 14 run appears in a lot of his early stuff and he would sequence this as a run down the pentatonic scale but keeping the quaver/semi-quaver (8th/16th note) rhythm - that messes with my head a lot when trying to play this stuff.
Merci beaucoup grace à vous j'ai fais énormément de progrès
Cordy showing us the way of EJ on Monday. I can play this. Clean attack. Fluid. 2nd nature. My hands fly pentatonic… at half this speed.
Really nice guitar tone
Good Morning!
LOVED THIS! Can you please make some captures of this amp for the Quad Cortex so the rest of us can use these sounds? Thank you!
Nice guitar.
The e to the b at the end of the first bar has to be a pull off if you want to play it like Eric. He always leaves the strings after upstrokes, just like Malmsteen.
It's just the Angus young pentatonic with the 12 12 14 rake that Eric decided to stretchy boi innit?
Hi John, do you have any new thoughts about Suhr Bella please? I'm thinking about buying it and I've noticed you had it for a while after your review. Thanks
Great. !!!!
Noice.
Stop watching Eric playing and get a life.
