My heart goes out to the Irish people and to Ireland because just like my people the Native Americans other countries came in and took their land like what happen to us Stand tall and Proud my Irish Brothers and Sisters for one day things will change and we will get our lands back....Oh great spirit watch over us and keep us safe.....Aho
Liam will never be forgotten. Bagatelle is within our irish D N A. The songs reflect irish life, feelings and dreams. My kids know all Bagatelle songs and now my grandkids are singing them. Liam and Bagatelle will live forever.
Ah,this song always reminds me of my wonderful childhood in Dun Laoghaire, and getting the 7A CIE bus,if I remember correctly, and getting off at Easons! Then the 46A into Dublin.I always thought that the Liffey stank too, never knowing why,but my Dad said it was the smell coming from the Guinness factory!! I only had 10 Summers in Dublin, but they are etched in my memory forever.I go back home regularly, but janey mack, how it has changed!Still love it though.
Thank you so much for posting this beautiful video! Its such a wonderful irish song and the pics makes me sad. Just have been to Dublin once but i really felt in love with ;-) and i want to go back!!!
what a great band, it was so dissapointing they did not make it big on the international stage, they were so close. Thanks for posting, great memories of the summer of 1980
I worked in Caspers then. I was Eileen Murphy in those days.I worked and lived with fionnuala. You must also remember Veronica and Sue.What brill memories from that time.Did you work in Caspers or a customer. cant place the name
I got tickets for the lads gig in the Empire in Belfast in November. I cant wait. I'm from Bray but living in Belfast for 20 years. Liam came and played for a benefit gig for my uncle Paul Ashford from Stepaside a few years ago, which was much appreciated. Love the Bagatelle tunes. Cant wait to see the gig in Nov. I feel like I'm "Going back to the last resort". C U in Nov.
where ever you are Irish person who posted the first post - know we all have those memories and where ever you are - we always miss our Irish, you're part of us x
Love this song so much it reminds me of my long hot summer in Dublin June 1987 till June 1988 this is one year i'd live over again again and again... if you know Eve Doyle from Dublin, Phil Shils from Philadelphia, Dave ? from Denton Texas, Fiounnoulla Ballance from Dublin, or anyone else who worked in Timmermanns wine cellar or Casper and Giumbini's restaurant around that time give me a message on one of my videos please and I will get in touch somehow...John Logue from Scotland
Although I am Hungarian, I became an Irish man for a few minutes. This dreamy song captivated me in its mood and drama. The Bagatelle ensemble fully contributed to this. Thank you very much.
Just saw this.... and cejhI am with you completely. I bought my children the book "The long walk" so they would know the great sacrifice of the Choctaw for a people they had never met. Ireland is forever in their debt for the what they did and the spirit of that great deed.
Just back from a Bagatelle show. Very disappointing. Warning bells rang when Liam Reilly shook hands with the guitar player when he arrived. Same guy (Canadian) proceeded to blow our eardrums apart with constant (I mean EVERY song) exceedingly loud distortion, so much so that Liam Reilly's voice was almost lost. Great set-list until they decided that the culchies had to get a shot of 'The Fields of Athenry' and 'Alice, Alice, who the @#*% is Alice?'. Yawn. Time to find the exit.
Its only a bloody song about Dublin, why all the negative Irish / English comments. There are a lot of horses there, they can use the lifts by themselves now, did you not see 'The Commitments'! ; D
'we are the most respected nation in the world and have the most skillled scociety'.... slight exageration. Are you referring to Dublin or Berlin? If you're only 20 years old and have travelled some of the world, I suggest you meditate upon Dublin a little more and wait until you see it through slightly more mature and worldly experienced eyes. Dublin...it has some of the most naive people.
THE SOCIAL FAMINE IS WORLD WIDE AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN;-) NO MATTER HOW MANY BOATS ARE TAKEN OR PLANES ARE FLOWN, THE SUMMER HAS NO DAY TO CALL IT'S OWN ANY MORE;-) BUT THE ZEST IS AND CAN ALWAYS BE TAKEN FROM LIFE NO MATTER WHAT THE SEASON;-) THIS IS HUMANITIES GREATEST DARKNESS;-) IF SOME ONE FINDS FAULT WITH A SPELLING HERE, IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORD, NO FAULT SEEN JUST HAS TO BE ACTED UPON, AND THINGS UNTIED AND MADE UNTIED
To be hones best place in the world no matter how hard things are now wouldnt swap it for the world im 20 years old ive travelled some of the world but nothing compares to home dublin the great city...:) to all those wankers who think its full of travellers you need to get a life everywhere has its differant cultures and etnic backrounds. i respect that we will never be a 32 county / country but what i will say we are the most respected nation in the world and have the most skillled scociety
@spiritwalker30 Countries? Plural? There was only one. We've been an independent state since 1922 while the 6 counties of Ulster have remained under the unbrella of Great britain. And no, there will NEVER be a united 32 county Ireland no matter how much nostalgia or pretty words might may call for it. The simple reality of it is Northern Ireland is now its own country and like any democratic land, the people can and must decide their own fate. The majority within the 6 will NEVER want the 32..
@spiritwalker30 During the worst period in our countrys history - the famine which started in 1845 during which millions of our people either perished from "needless" starvation or emigrated on what became known as coffin ships from our island, it was the Choctaw tribe who from meagre resources in 1847 raised funds of $170 to help relieve the starvation. This tribe who saw half their population die on the Trail of Tears only shortly before. Your words are not hollow my friend.
@Moviethemecollector1 I'd prefer if we could get our country back from the Germans first!!! Reviewing our budget before it was released to us the people says it all. Yes I am living here in this country and I agree that it is so horrible to think of what our ancestors fought and died for. Independence gone, sovereignty gone, democracy gone.... need I go on.
Great tune, but please spare us the images of scobies and pikeys for the first 30 seconds, they hurt my eyes and sensibilities.... these are not the Dublin I would like to see portrayed....... talk about putting your best foot forward... (maybe you werent aware of this saying...(I hope..)
Do you even know what you are talking about all us Native Americans get along the way that we see it is that we are all one nation, I was not saying anything bad about Ireland or your culture so why would you say the things you said to me I have a lot of Irish friends from Ireland
@Harps66 i dont suppose you're a "hoodie skanger". i live in naas but i'd bleed to shades of blue. i always said that them lads are knackers but now i'm 14 and i spose theyre my friends now. but anyway deadly song. not enough people know it
Dublin is a great city but yes theres a few scummers n junkies that make it look bad but beyond them theres many great people and places. iv had many a bad experience back home but I still love my county and country!
shane connors - ''we are the most respected nation in the world and have the most skillled scociety'' Yet this Irish man/woman forgot how to spell and type!
knacker is term that's used for a horse that's ready to be slaughtered so I'd get your facts straight first before you try and insult people you don't even know.
Emigrated to Australia in 1987 , being a Dubliners, the hairs on my neck still stand up to this day when I hear this track from Bagatelle

smithfield horse market once a month i would drag me da to it beg and cry for a horse i'd get a clip around the ear and then brought up to summerhill
@mrDonVito19 Absolute shite. We get the four seasons in one day, everyday, except summer, were it rains from May to September.
Beautiful song!
There is pretty well no one in this video that was even thought of let alone born when this song came out.
Think ahead to 2022 and all the scooters on the pavements. Hmmm
to be fair though, them horse markets are knacker central and smithfields a kip.
whats the problem ?
a fantastic song!
Oh dear...the re-recorded version. Why did they bother? The original can't be bettered.
be glad you are there, greed has fucked up this country so much in the last 10 years
@ross21085weed because like it or not but travellers are the pure blooded irish
