  • A simple way to make a badly scratched chipped damaged watch crystal look almost like new again. This video is intended for watches that are very nice, but not expensive enough to spend a lot of money replacing the crystal. When fully cured, it's a very hard finish. Enjoy the video!

    Hey, very nice video. I bought the glues You mentioned. Mine wouldn't cure no matter what I did. Perhaps there is some variance in quality. Apparently oxygen inhibition is causing curing problems. I found a workaround. I glued a sapphire glass on top of the mineral one XD It works. Glue fills the scratches. No curing problems without oxygen, and its sapphire so no more scratches too. It looks bulkier tho. Thanks for the tip ;)

    Hi! Love your videos. Another thing that works really well to fix a scratched up watch is to rub them with CIGARETTE ASH. I have a pack of cigarettes here just for this purpose. (I don't smoke.) just light a few, let them burn down by putting them in one of those little ashtrays where you can "attach" the cigarettes by their filters to the little cigarette holder ashtray side thingies and take that collected ash and just rub it around in circular motions on the watch face, rinse, and you are all set. It MUST be cigarette ash, not cigar ash, by the way.
    All the Best! Bill W8LV

    They used to sell a resin product specifically for filling in scratches on eyeglasses and watch crystals but when I tried it, it gave the crystal a wavy appearance as well as not filling in the deeper gashes also it scratched up pretty easily. It might be better to just polish the crystal down with rubbing compound and polishing compound, of course that won't help with the gashes. I wonder if using the resin and then polishing it back down to the crystal might not be a better approach.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  6 років тому +1

      Possible I could've only filled the large gashes and then polished the other scratches out. Thanks for watching! Be sure to check out my extensive video playlists for other great videos of interest to you, rate thumbs up, and share my channel with others.

      A solution to this would be to disassemble the watch, take out the internals, then fix the scratches.

    • @bbutc
      @bbutc 4 роки тому +1

      @@maxsolo2652 This would be a good option but it depends on the watch. The watch I considered this for is over 38 years old and the 'internals' are very delicate. It would be a balanced decision on removing the scratches and risking upsetting or permanently damaging the internals or leaving it alone and living with the scratches, especially as it seems to working fine now. The scratches on the watch also have some sentimental value as I wore it on building sites across the country in the 1990's and one particularly large scratch, which was done soon after I bought it, happened when my younger bother pushed me into an unlit fireplace. Whenever I look at that scratch I think of him. lol

    I ordered this resin, it never hardened.

      Did you place it in direct sunlight? Mine cures just fine.

      I also ordered the exact resin used in this video and it never hardened, even after using the UV light for 5 minutes and placing my watch in direct sunlight for 15 minutes. After 45 minutes in the direct sunlight, it's still sticky/tacky. Such a disappointing experience bc I did everything the creator of this video suggested.

    Why is it called a ‘crystal’?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  3 роки тому +1

      That's what they're called. It could be made of plastic, glass, sapphire, etc.

    Too bad it wasn't a sapphire crystal then the coral wouldn't hurt it.

    Yeah that’s so not how you get a scratch out of a crystal. It’s a sapphire crystal even plastic ones so you can buff them out without using resin materials. Eventually the resin is going to chip away.

      Well, mine still looks fine 5 years later. This repair is not for fine scratches, only when you have many deep scratches.

    I would say impressive, except you showed the "before" video that was around the 12 o'clock position, and your "after" results were around the 6-7 o'clock positions. So, you didn't actually show what the big gashes in the watch looked like after. Hopefully a bunch of people didn't ruin their watches by following this.....

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 роки тому

      Ruin? If their watch wasn't already ruined, they wouldn't be looking for my video. It works.

      @@electronicsNmore why not show the same spot on the crystal from the before video then? It's like doing a car body repair video, showing how the passenger side is wrecked, and then repairing the car, and then using the driver's side to show how good your work was.

      @@electronicsNmore what wrist you wear it on is totally up to you. But it's on your wrist bone; is it not uncomfortable?
