This is one of the most impressive sailboat channels on youtube. I can't believe all the garbage that has a million views. The quality of your work is simply outstanding - simple, elegant, strong, "workmanlike" as they used to say.
I have to agree It's ODD how so many folk support obvious self promoting graspers on utube.and pay too little attention to far more worth projects. And it's great to see some one make quality subtle changes to their boat in a way that can be undone without prejudice to the boats fabric
I just ran across your channel. Amazing! Your doing it. I'm 61 yo and have studied, fantasized, dreamed, and wondered if I would ever find an old wood boat, fix it up, and adventure. Thanks for sharing. I can live it through you both
There are so many wonderful books on boat building and many institutions of learning, a growing business and occupation. Museums will often offer classes. It is not enough to show how but one must Do How and have the mental control to "do it right" and no video will ever replace those things but you prove the adage still lives today " A Will A Way".
I’m impressed by the breadth of your skills. I am envious of the depth of what I suspect is a living body of knowledge appears to inform the work that you are doing. It appears that you’ve already acquired, and can tap into a fairly solid knowledge that is mostly lost in a world now focused on fiberglass boat construction; skills that are disappearing in neighbourhoods where boats are not as big a deal as they are on the Pacific North West, where there is enough of a “wooden boat economy” where these skills can still stay alive and be passed on. I’m in Toronto where this knowledge has pretty much disappeared. I appreciate that you are taking your time to share even just these brief snap shots of this body of knowledge: as you can see from the comments here there’s an audience for this that respects, and appreciates this effort. Thank you. Gorgeous boat, and again, thank you for sharing even just a bit of this knowledge.
Bravo Skipper! It is with great pleasure that I watch your work and adventures, you are great fellows, you treat your wonderful vintage boat with such love! Good luck on your campaigns, fair winds and seven feet under the keel!👍👏👏👏👍
You’re right up there in the skills and performance. Casting your own Bronze fittings is super impressive. Patterns and castings give a nice level of personalization. Great fun.
Your commitment to restore and upgrade your boat while preserving the historical integrity of the vessel is laudable and hugely encouraging. You work to an incredibly high standard which is inspiring. Personally I would love to see more on the work you did, along the lines of your videos on the strengthening of the bilges and the new water tanks you installed. Perhaps a walkthrough of the finished boat? I believe this will be well received.
what a beauty, well done with the work she came out great! i have the exact same sink pump in my Sailboat, but saw you had 2 and was amazed. i have a 1960 CROD (Columbia River one Design) that must of been the standard in the 60's were on the lower Columbia if your ever in town :D Stay right side up my friends !
What a great episode! I would only fault it because of its brevity. I would’ve been thrilled to have seen more details regarding the installation of the tanks and the refrigerator. Nevertheless thank you for the effort!
I enjoy your videos very much. All of them. Just one recommendation - in the prep videos I would have loved to get some info why you do what and why and how it works. :-D Especially in the first episode. Safe Saling! :-)
More memories, the smell of boiled linseed and freshly cut timber. You have made such a great job of the improvements. Love to know more about that galley sink, it looks awesome. Any tips for welding the tanks' is there a tool available for this as I have been looking but found nothing in U.K. Finally, your tender, is that a skin on frame? Love to see it in more detail. Loving your videos. Andy UK ps. How can I forget to mention the amazing bronze work, a work of art. A
Fantastic couple of videos. Awesome looking boat and the quality of workmanship it deserves... I'd be really interested in the sort of budget you had for this.... enormous I'd imagine! :) oh and "...but more about that..." pinched from White Spot Pirates maybe?
What size of compressor did you use for your new fridge? How much of copper tube is actually exposed to water for cooling and condensing of the Freon vapor "inside" your kitchen drain. . My compliments - It is a pretty genius way of not having to use and drive a salt water cooling pump. I have a 35 foot fiberglass boat but love the old school wooden double ended sailboats from growing up in the Baltics, Denmark. Safe journey
Amazing! Looking to buy a buy but a torn between an old wooden boat or old steel boats. Primary goal is to sail anywhere? Any advice? Your boat is amazing
That PE-tankage welded to spec/form is an advanced technological idea too seldomly used. should You happen to have weight the new tanks over the old ones? Thanks for sharing! Cheers.
Worm drive saws have a much stronger, more durable powertrain and can be more efficient. The added weight also makes them more stable in heavier cuts. They're also serviceable for longer life not just throwaway
Sorry, but the refit/history of Julia (and a bit of you all,) needs about two more hours of content apart from everything else. Hang in there, you'll get the followers. Most of us are by now sick and tired of supporting Caribbean panhandlers who only do enough sailing to justify a Patreon page. Seriously; We want refit, We want refit! Show us the heart of your journey and we will follow in your wake..

Sweat equity!
Agreed from Vancouver Island Canada! INCREDIBLE workmanship
Totally agree!

I'm impressed and mildly envious with your skill sets.
Well done!

Fabulous!
You guys casted your stanchions?! You guys are so badass! How many gallons did those new tanks hold?
Many of the boat fix/sail videos are pretty scary. Amateurs learning from dilettantes. Nice to see someone doing things in a professional manner.
That is some really impressive work! Are you a shipwright by training? Lots of great woodworking.
Hi, I love your work! Wondering what kind of cook stove you use in your lovely galley and what fuel it uses.
Fantastic couple of videos. Awesome looking boat and the quality of workmanship it deserves... I'd be really interested in the sort of budget you had for this.... enormous I'd imagine! :) oh and "...but more about that..." pinched from White Spot Pirates maybe?

Now I see that you are an impressive craftsman as well. They will ADOPT you in New Zealand!! I envy both your ability AND your youth.
Adopt isn't the word for what is done in NZ,the loonies are running the asylum
Jonathan, how long you’ve been doing boat work? How did you get your start?
Amazing! Looking to buy a buy but a torn between an old wooden boat or old steel boats. Primary goal is to sail anywhere? Any advice? Your boat is amazing

should You happen to have weight the new tanks over the old ones? Thanks for sharing! Cheers.
Yes, wanted to know specs and processes
What do you due for a living?? Not many people can cast their own bronze fittings and what's they need
Sorry to ask because I’m sure you’ve said before, but what is the make of your absolutely beautiful boat?
It is an Ingrid ketch designed by William Atkin.
Radar and ais for the fog? Or just the air horn every two minutes?
Julia is a beautiful boat. Is it an Atkin design the same as Arabella?
Yes, both are "Ingrid" ketches, designed by William Atkin.
What is your tender made off I look’s like wood framing but I can’t make up my mind about the skin? Hugh
It's polyester cloth, sealed with paint. It is a skin on frame boat by Dave Gentry.
You’re either very capable or have some crafty friends

просто класс! камбуз и палуба отличные, а изначально унылые были
how do those "east coast builders " not use worm drive saws ?
What's the advantage? i have only seen them in the USA, never down under. Thanks
A worm drive saw is for ripping down boards like turning a 2x10 into two 2x5 and that saw can handle it.
Worm drive saws have a much stronger, more durable powertrain and can be more efficient. The added weight also makes them more stable in heavier cuts. They're also serviceable for longer life not just throwaway
