I just got the 2019 Scott Genius 950 I love it its an absolutely amazing bike im 1,84m tall and I have size L. It fits perfectly, the only problem with it is that the dropper post is fitted way to low from factory.
great video! loved to whatch this. evaluating this bike for purchase myself, against the Cube stereo 120 HPC SL(T) 2018 model or Cube Stereo 120 MT 2019, coming up very soon. and jeez what a view you have... (jalous). Regards from a almost flat Holland...
J Teek hey! Thanks so much. Glad you found this helpful! All the best with your new purchase. I’m sure either way you go you’ll be happy. We hope to visit Holland someday! Hear it’s beautiful.
Hey Jonas, frame size Large. I did find it a bit more race than trail although I’m no expert. It was a great bike (sold it a while back) but felt a little big on the trails I ran. I think a medium would have actually worked better for my use! Hope that helps! Cheers
Great video man, I'm looking to buy one and I was wondering to see the bike in detail. This helped me a lot! Just one question, can you tell me if the downtube has a factory protection on it? Greetings from Belgium and have fun riding this bike!
Hey stn ms, apologize for the late reply. There’s actually no factory DT guard on my model. Not sure if that’s just a US thing or if it’s across the board.
Hey Niel, my shop installed it for free before I brought the bike home so I'm not 100% sure. To my knowledge it is direct "plug and play" with no modification needed. Also because it was a free install I'm assuming it was very easy. It came with a new ring nut that replaces the cap on the steering tube and allows the multi-tool to be pressed firmly into place. Hope that helps.
Great review. I couldn't help notice some loose cables underneath the frame. Underneath the BB actually. It looks like a terrible place to have those wires that can get tangled up in various stuff along the trail. Could you share your thoughts on those? Thanks again
Andrei Avris Thanks Andrei! Yeah, I noticed those two cables right away too. They are for the derailleur and rear brake caliper. They haven’t caused any issues so far. They are held fast by a tiny allen screw bracket where they come out of the main frame so they aren’t going anywhere. I’m going to try and loosen that screw and see if I can push some of the slack back up into the frame. Good question!
Kaleb Krueger thanks a lot for your reply mate. I bought yesterday the Spark 950 and upgraded the transmission to 2x11 full Deore XT. Awesome bike. The guys from the shop told me the cables are fine and they have some extra length for when the back triangle flexes. Happy trails! :)
Hey Jason, the bike is holding up well. Very solid build quality! Granted I’ve only logged around 40 miles so haven’t had to do much except add some air to the suspension once it set in. My only complaints are that it can feel a little big on tighter sections of trail. This may be solved by mounting a slightly more narrow bar. You may also consider test riding a frame size down from your normal before purchasing if you plan to ride many tight and technical trails. Also the drivetrain is a little noisy when downshifting under a load (I usually try to avoid doing that anyway so not really a big deal). Happy with the bike overall though! It’s fast, climbs well and the twin loc suspension adjustment system is amazing.
Kaleb, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I pulled the tripper and ordered the Scott Spark 940. It was between the 940, the Genius and the Specialized Camber Comp. I want something for jumping, but also good for all around trail riding too. I hope this bike is going to be decent at jumps. I live in Colorado and Winter Park (which is close to where I live) has a nice bike park. But I also do long trail rides too. I plan on hitting the Colorado trail as soon as I get the get, hopefully within two weeks.
Hey Tony, yes very satisfied! Only thing I would do differently is strongly consider a medium frame instead of a large. I’m 6’ and 175lbs and in some of the tighter, twistier portions of trail the bike can feel a little big underneath me. My dealer recommended a large frame so that’s what I went with. That being said, the bike handles very well which offsets the fact that I may have gotten a size too big for my trails. A year in-nothing broken, everything functioning perfectly and no maintenance other than chain lube and some shock adjustments!
@@4XTRAIL I'm 5'11 and have a Scott Aspect 950 hardtail and it feels big for me as well... Been thinking about getting a medium but my dealer says I'll regret it.
Thanks for the great video, just a question, it is possible to change my 29 Scott Spark 940 wheels to 27.5? This bike doesnt have the screw that say "low or high" and also I dont find if it possible or if it is not. Please help!!!
I got an answer direct from Scott, look below: The Genius does have the possibility because of a geometry chip in the rocker link which gives the user the chance to change the geometry of the frame a bit while using 27.5 inch wheels This chip is not used in the spark models . so the position of the BB and the crank will be a bit lower with 27.5 inch wheels than whith the 29ers and it is not corrigible. But I think this is the only noticeable point out. You will maybe have a minimal advantage in the maneuverability of the bike. Minimal, because the chainstay lenght will be as long as before. Best chance would be to try it. And find out if there is a noticeable difference which gives you an advantage in your individuall usage of the bike.
Jameson De Witt Nice man! That’s where I was before I purchased this bike...trying to read every review and watch every video I could. Not a ton out there on this bike so here goes a quick run down of what I like/dislike after about 30 miles of single track riding: Pros: climbs very well, carries speed really well, very efficient platform, high quality components and very “complete” feeling package. Favorite feature: twin loc suspension adjustment 🙌🏼 Cons: could use an extra 10 or 20mm of suspension travel (at least for a few of my more technical downhill trails), wider bar feels like your going to clip trees on tighter trails (easy to replace of needed), 29” wheels are nice but feel too big occasionally (again on tighter technical trails). Least favorite feature: no adjustable geometry for 27.5” compatibility. Really my cons list are all the result of this being a XC bred machine (which is why I bought it). The Scott Genius would be a good bike to check out if you are riding mostly tight and technical trails. Try to test ride the bike before you purchase it if possible, bottom line is you can’t go wrong with Scott! All the best!
henry foottit Hey, its a large. I’m 6’ and 175lbs and honestly the medium frame felt pretty good for me too. Ultimately went with the large because I have long arms and wanted the extra reach but the medium felt a little more nimble.
Szymon Fałowski Hey Szymon! It’s a size large, according to Scott it weighs in at 29.32 lbs / 13.30 kg. I’m 6’ tall and 175 lbs and I actually liked the size medium almost as much as the large. Felt a little more “manageable” in tighter sections than the large. Ultimately I ended up with the large knowing I can always adjust the stem and seating setup.
felomagno Mandrake Thanks felomagno! Yeah, I don’t understand all the technical lingo yet either haha. Just a guy who likes to ride! Happy trails friend.
henry foottit I like the feel downhill especially with the dropper, feels planted and quick. I’m not a “downhill” rider though so I don’t have any downhill bike to compare it to.
I just ordered the Spark 960 and I can’t hardly wait to ride it.
This was a fantastic review. Just the facts. Thank you.
Thanks Jordan! Glad it was helpful!
picked mine up yesterday absolute amazing

nice review. just picked up the 2018 960. awesome bike. happy miles
Cammosnow nice!
My spark 900 should be here this week.
Hi Kaleb I just bought one im second owner like brand new I really like all the features and it rides very smooth thanks for your video
I want this bike now
The Heavy Part of the Shock is the thin side, there sits the damphing and the oil.
The thick Parts is basicly just the air chamber.

Hi, what size of the bike did you bought? Fantastic review. Do you find the geometry to be more race than trailish?

@@4XTRAIL Thanks, I remember you spoke about the pedals you bought to the bike. Do you remember from where they are?
@@jonaspettersson8177 I think they were UP brand? Or something similar.
@@4XTRAIL Thanks very much. I found them. Did you stop vlogging about bikes?
La tengo y es espectacular es increíble esa máquinota
Nice video! My 940 arrives next week
Nice Robert! You’ll love it I’m sure. Happy trails!
keen to see a ride report from you. I come off an enduro bike and decided to go for the Scott after riding a friend's 960

Just one question, can you tell me if the downtube has a factory protection on it?
Greetings from Belgium and have fun riding this bike!
Greetings stn ms! I believe there’s a small rubber guard on the lower portion of the DT but I’ll have to verify and get back to you!
Hey stn ms, apologize for the late reply. There’s actually no factory DT guard on my model. Not sure if that’s just a US thing or if it’s across the board.
Hi Kaleb. Did you have to modify your steering tube to fit the oneup edc tool?
Hey Niel, my shop installed it for free before I brought the bike home so I'm not 100% sure. To my knowledge it is direct "plug and play" with no modification needed. Move inside? Whaaaaat? Just kidding. Great review Kaleb!
wtf the rear deraileur is routed internaly but the rear brakes are not? Why
Interesting! Hadn’t thought about that.
I just bought it. Is this tire TR because there is no mark on the side wall of the tire..
Hey! No, stock Maxxis tires aren’t TR. 😒
thanks bud,,ill get it tubeless then.
A year later are you still happy? A local dealer has one left in my size for $3400. I'm very interested.

Nice bike! How wide, is the rims?
Thanks! 25mm I believe, just under an inch.
Kaleb Krueger inner 25mm?
I'm not sure, that's just the spec from Scott's website. I would guess inner, yes.
Thanks for the great video, just a question, it is possible to change my 29 Scott Spark 940 wheels to 27.5? This bike doesnt have the screw that say "low or high" and also I dont find if it possible or if it is not. Please help!!!

Hi! Thanks for the answer! My dealer say it should be no problem! Hahaha what should we believe?
29 on the front 27.5 on the back?? Hahaha jk that’s interesting, maybe send Scott an email and ask them.

Hey Javier! No, the bottle cage was an add-on.

Yep, syncros! Here’s a link to closest one I could find to mine: www.syncros.com/ca/en/products/2655945024222/syncros-coupe-cage-10-bottle-cage/

Is it good going downhill
