Lanny Poffo was a lot more than a jobber. He's very well known and remembered by most wrestling fans. Hell of an entertainer. He was also a very skilled worker. It's a shame we never got to see him and Randy tag-team on the big time. Lanny is perhaps being humble, but I think he's selling himself short.

I was fortunate enough to meet Leapin Lanny (as he was known then). It was a wwf house show and during intermission my dad and i went for snacks and there he was just walking around. He was super nice and cordial. He knelt down on my 6yr old level to speak with me. He gave me a frisbee which i still have.

Randy was working towards HOF before he died. He did a commercial for WWE promoting his action figure and the wrestling game that featured him as a playable character which was a big get at that point. Sort of like how Bret did the DVD to bury the hatchet before he did the HOF

He may have been a jobber in his early WWF days, but I remember VERY well being happy to see him come down to job out. Leaping Lanny was high flying before almost anyone and was solid technically in the ring. He was maybe the only jobber to get a spotlight before the match when he would do things like read a poem and throw out a frisbee. At least he was presented as a top tier jobber.

Perhaps not a *super* star, but it was always very clear he was having fun.
Also, while Jobbers may not have gotten "Superstar" paychecks, Lanny made it clear in this interview that he felt well taken care of, and as a Jobber, he probably had it much easier after his on-stage time to fade away, perhaps even be able to take the family to the amusement parks anonymously...

One of my favorite televised wrestling memories is from I think Mid-Atlantic Wrestling out of Atlanta. Lanny had been injured in the match and was being carried out on a door that had been dismantled and brought to the ring because the opponent had broken his Lanny’s back. The announcer is going on about Oh Lord he will never wrestle again, this is terrible. Here he comes now, as the announcer sticks the mic in Lanny’s face and says Can we get just a few words? That may have been when it hit me, this is definitely fake.
