I am a BIG Carpenters fan. I'm also a car guy myself. The internet says Richard only has a net worth of $14 million. But then you see he has his own warehouse with polished floors and dozens of restored classics. I know another part of the warehouse has a classic Hi Fi system that's 15 feet wide. My guess is the internet is wrong. I think he's worth quite a bit more.... And good luck to him. God Bless you Richard. Thank you for the music; and long may you live and enjoy those beautiful cars.
Love how Richard has such great taste in cars, and that he bought them because he liked them, whether they had “collector value” or not 🙂! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interview before where Richard talks cars, although I did know the Ferrari Daytona Coupe (365 GTB/4) on the cover of Then and Now was actually his car 😁❤️. The story of that cover is hilarious 😂, and I’m with Richard that it was a sacrilege to (visually) cut Karen’s face in half 🤣! Something I’m surprised that neither you nor he mentioned was that the house in the background was their folks’ house, when they first moved out to California 😮!
Great interview. YOu can hear how interesting and engaging Richard is to talk about cars. I am sure he gets a little tired of being asked the same questions about music and Karen. I loved the questions you asked about driving to California and all the things along the way. Richard seeing an A&W for the first time!!!! Route 66!!!! RIchard is right about the 60's and all the unique looking cars. NOwadays most of the cars look the same.
I saw a Carpenters publicity photo of Richard and Karen standing next to a (I think) 1972 Ford Econoline van with the Carpenters logo painted on the side and "powered by Bear" painted on the driver side door. I would love to ask Richard what ever happened to it? Did A&M Records own it or him?
More like a variation of the 64 Dodge Polara or Plymouth Fury…..in 1965 they were still B bodies….in ‘65 the Fury and Polara became C bodies. The Dart was more a clone of the Plymouth Valiant.
Carpenters= Nostalgia
And great music.

Wow, that black ‘60 Chrysler 300 F Richard owns is an absolutely stunning car

Great walk in the past…..thx!
My first non hand me down car that I actually purchased was a 69' Ply Road Runner in 75 or 76'.
A very enjoyable interview and being a Mopar fan myself made it all the more interesting. Thank you!
My favorite car back then was the 57 Chevy. In the late 50s and early 60s we had a 55' Rocket 88 Olds 2 door. The epitome of a 1950s classic.
I still have my high school car 69GTO, and my first brand new truck I paid cash for 1986 standard cab Toyota turbo 4X4
The Ferrari Pinto LMAO !!!
My Grandparents first new car was a 60' Dodge Phoenix. Before that they had 36' Ford.

Continental Mark II owned by Richard Carpenter was white, car C56Q3692.
In June 1960 we moved into a new home when I was 3.
I just love the Carpenters! Sorry Richard that you're 63 Corvair Monza didn't work for you. My 64 still works!
Was the Plymouth Satellite a re-trimmed Dodge Dart?

I'm surprised he didn't keep the black Imperial he bought his Parents.
Not sure, but he still has a black Imperial…..
