Ponder the Quran is a new series created with the intention of inspiring you to pick up a Quran and read it with reflection (tadabbur). Many of us read the Quran in a shallow sort of way; some in Arabic despite not understanding Arabic, and some with the translation, but without giving it much thought. How can we expect the miracle and truth of the Quran to become apparent to us without us searching for it? Pondering over the Quran unlocks a whole new dimension you never knew existed that proves to you 100% there could be no other author than Allah SWT. I hope I could show just how much we can extract from one verse in this episode!
Only in the last century or two have we uncovered so much about the mosquito. We all find them annoying, but because of the age of Science, they have proven to be incredibly impressive. Physicists constantly look to nature for inspiration on how to develop different technologies, and to this day, no human creation comes close to the precision and perfection of nature. How then in our limited intellects and abilities can we decide there is no Creator and no purpose for existing?
When this verse was revealed 1400 years ago, especially in Arabia, Science was non-existent. The majority of the Arabs were actually illiterate. If we really reflect on the wording of just this one verse, it really is an eye-opener!

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَسۡتَحۡـىٖۤ اَنۡ يَّضۡرِبَ مَثَلًا مَّا بَعُوۡضَةً فَمَا فَوۡقَهَا ؕ فَاَمَّا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا فَيَعۡلَمُوۡنَ اَنَّهُ الۡحَـقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّهِمۡۚ وَاَمَّا الَّذِيۡنَ ڪَفَرُوۡا فَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ مَاذَآ اَرَادَ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَا مَثَلًا ۘ
“Indeed, Allah is not ashamed to present a mosquito as an example or anything that is above it....”
“as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord”.
“But as for those who disbelieve, they say, ‘What did Allah intend by this example?’ ” - Quran 2:26

[2:26] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"اِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَا یَسۡتَحۡیٖۤ اَنۡ یَّضۡرِبَ مَثَلًا مَّا بَعُوۡضَۃً فَمَا فَوۡقَہَا ؕ فَاَمَّا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا فَیَعۡلَمُوۡنَ اَنَّہُ الۡحَقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّہِمۡ ۚ وَ اَمَّا الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا فَیَقُوۡلُوۡنَ مَا ذَاۤ اَرَادَ اللّٰہُ بِہٰذَا مَثَلًا ۘ یُضِلُّ بِہٖ کَثِیۡرًا ۙ وَّ یَہۡدِیۡ بِہٖ کَثِیۡرًا ؕ وَ مَا یُضِلُّ بِہٖۤ اِلَّا الۡفٰسِقِیۡنَ ﴿ۙ۲۶﴾
Indeed, Allah is not reluctant to narrate some example (for better comprehension), whether of a mosquito or something even more (disgusting) than that. The believers know well that this example is (a pointer to the truth) from their Lord. But those who have adopted disbelief ask (on hearing): ‘What could Allah mean by this example?’ (In this way) Allah holds many astray, and guides many aright with the same example. And by this He leaves in error only those who are (already) disobedient.
Glorious Quran
[2:27] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"الَّذِیۡنَ یَنۡقُضُوۡنَ عَہۡدَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مِیۡثَاقِہٖ ۪ وَ یَقۡطَعُوۡنَ مَاۤ اَمَرَ اللّٰہُ بِہٖۤ اَنۡ یُّوۡصَلَ وَ یُفۡسِدُوۡنَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ ؕ اُولٰٓئِکَ ہُمُ الۡخٰسِرُوۡنَ ﴿۲۷﴾
(These disobedient people are those) who break the promise of Allah after having confirmed it, and break that (relationship) which Allah has ordered to be joined, and create disorder in the land. It is they who are the losers.
Glorious Quran
[2:28] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"کَیۡفَ تَکۡفُرُوۡنَ بِاللّٰہِ وَ کُنۡتُمۡ اَمۡوَاتًا فَاَحۡیَاکُمۡ ۚ ثُمَّ یُمِیۡتُکُمۡ ثُمَّ یُحۡیِیۡکُمۡ ثُمَّ اِلَیۡہِ تُرۡجَعُوۡنَ ﴿۲۸﴾
How can you deny Allah, whereas you were lifeless and He gave you life, then He will cause you to die and will again bring you back to life, and then to Him you will be returned?

[2:29] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَ لَکُمۡ مَّا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ جَمِیۡعًا ٭ ثُمَّ اسۡتَوٰۤی اِلَی السَّمَآءِ فَسَوّٰىہُنَّ سَبۡعَ سَمٰوٰتٍ ؕ وَ ہُوَ بِکُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیۡمٌ ﴿٪۲۹﴾
He is the One Who created for you all that is in the earth. Then He turned towards the higher regions (of the universe) and perfected them into seven heavenly firmaments. And He has full knowledge of everything.

[2:30] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"وَ اِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّکَ لِلۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃِ اِنِّیۡ جَاعِلٌ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ خَلِیۡفَۃً ؕ قَالُوۡۤا اَتَجۡعَلُ فِیۡہَا مَنۡ یُّفۡسِدُ فِیۡہَا وَ یَسۡفِکُ الدِّمَآءَ ۚ وَ نَحۡنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِکَ وَ نُقَدِّسُ لَکَ ؕ قَالَ اِنِّیۡۤ اَعۡلَمُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۳۰﴾
And (recall) when your Lord said to the angels: ‘I am about to place My vicegerent on the earth.’ They submitted: ‘Will You put Your (vicegerent) on the earth such as will do mischief in it and shed blood, whilst we are engaged in glorifying You with celebrating Your Praise and extolling Your Holiness (all the time)?’ (Allah) said: ‘I know that which you do not know.’

[2:31] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"وَ عَلَّمَ اٰدَمَ الۡاَسۡمَآءَ کُلَّہَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَہُمۡ عَلَی الۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃِ ۙ فَقَالَ اَنۡۢبِـُٔوۡنِیۡ بِاَسۡمَآءِ ہٰۤؤُلَآءِ اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِیۡنَ ﴿۳۱﴾
And Allah taught Adam the names of all (things), and then presented them before the angels and said: ‘Tell Me the names of these things if you are true (in your assumption).’
Glorious Quran
[2:32] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"قَالُوۡا سُبۡحٰنَکَ لَا عِلۡمَ لَنَاۤ اِلَّا مَا عَلَّمۡتَنَا ؕ اِنَّکَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَلِیۡمُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ ﴿۳۲﴾
The angels (humbly) submitted: ‘Glory to You, You are Holy (free from every deficiency). We have no knowledge except that which You have taught us. Surely, You alone are All-Knowing, All-Wise.’

[2:33] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"قَالَ یٰۤاٰدَمُ اَنۡۢبِئۡہُمۡ بِاَسۡمَآئِہِمۡ ۚ فَلَمَّاۤ اَنۡۢبَاَہُمۡ بِاَسۡمَآئِہِمۡ ۙ قَالَ اَلَمۡ اَقُلۡ لَّکُمۡ اِنِّیۡۤ اَعۡلَمُ غَیۡبَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ ۙ وَ اَعۡلَمُ مَا تُبۡدُوۡنَ وَ مَا کُنۡتُمۡ تَکۡتُمُوۡنَ ﴿۳۳﴾
Allah said: ‘O Adam, (now) apprise them of the names of these things.’ So when Adam had told them the names of those things, (Allah) said: ‘Did I not tell you I know (all) the hidden realities of the heavens and the earth and also know all that you disclose and all that you conceal?’

[2:34] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"وَ اِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃِ اسۡجُدُوۡا لِاٰدَمَ فَسَجَدُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اِبۡلِیۡسَ ؕ اَبٰی وَ اسۡتَکۡبَرَ ٭۫ وَ کَانَ مِنَ الۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ ﴿۳۴﴾
And (also recall) when We commanded the angels: ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam.’ Then they all prostrated themselves to Adam except Iblis (Satan). He refused and showed arrogance, and (consequently) became one of the disbelievers.
Glorious Quran
[2:35] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"وَ قُلۡنَا یٰۤاٰدَمُ اسۡکُنۡ اَنۡتَ وَ زَوۡجُکَ الۡجَنَّۃَ وَ کُلَا مِنۡہَا رَغَدًا حَیۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا ۪ وَ لَا تَقۡرَبَا ہٰذِہِ الشَّجَرَۃَ فَتَکُوۡنَا مِنَ الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ ﴿۳۵﴾
And We ordained: ‘O Adam, reside you and your wife in this Paradise and eat of it, both of you, whatever you like and from wherever you will. But do not go near this tree lest you should (join) the transgressors.’
Glorious Quran
[2:36] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"فَاَزَلَّہُمَا الشَّیۡطٰنُ عَنۡہَا فَاَخۡرَجَہُمَا مِمَّا کَانَا فِیۡہِ ۪ وَ قُلۡنَا اہۡبِطُوۡا بَعۡضُکُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۚ وَ لَکُمۡ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ مُسۡتَقَرٌّ وَّ مَتَاعٌ اِلٰی حِیۡنٍ ﴿۳۶﴾
Then Satan shook them from that place, and removed them from the (blissful) location where they were. And (eventually) We ordained: ‘Go down (and live in the earth); you will remain enemies to each other, and now in the earth you have been destined a dwelling place and sustenance for a fixed time.’
Glorious Quran
[2:37] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"فَتَلَقّٰۤی اٰدَمُ مِنۡ رَّبِّہٖ کَلِمٰتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَیۡہِ ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِیۡمُ ﴿۳۷﴾
Then Adam learnt some words (of humility and repentance) from his Lord. So Allah accepted his repentance. Surely, He is the One Who is Most Relenting, Ever-Merciful.

This is just amazing, I am pleasantly surprised but not surprised at the same time; I know the Qur'aan is filled with beautiful examples such as this but I don't think I ever fully grasped what this verse entails. I'm beginning to understand that each and every single verse, when analysed properly, shows its profound meaning. May Allah allow me to grow in knowledge of the Qur'aan. Ameen.
