Have you thought about getting a CompTIA certification like Network+ or Security+...or a CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) certification? Studying for that might teach you even more.
my journey as a career transitioner - start off from the IT roles and work your way into security. 99% of the security roles are hired based on your IT experience - security is about protecting people and assets. You cannot do security without knowing and experiences about both, period. This is why lots of employers are not cert-smacked by OSCP or SANS who has no real IT experiences (not security, just IT OPs), because security is about people and asset, period. Hence people who had been a sysadmin makes a much much much easier transition into security engineering, and people from service desk to security analyst, and web developers to appsec engineers - it's about IT.
Depends on the region i guess. Dont get me wrong i would love to see companies hiring people with 0 experience coz we seriously have a shortage in this industry - 87% of the cyber professionals experiencing high stress on the job, and I dare say it's much higher than that :( but at least in Australia, where the market is very kept to itself and relatively small, its extremely difficult for people with 0 experience to land an entry level job. Every single job ad would have over 300 applicants and most of them would have some IT experience. Maybe things a bit different in the US or EU. But Aus and NZ, the competition is really crazy @TechTualChatter
Another one further confirms I am on the right track, I have been watching your vids and performing recon for a while and I am glad that I watched others pitfall into "grab a cert, get a job". That just doesn't even make sense from a logical perspective. So I took the spare parts and computers and have repurposed them and have been experimenting since. I really believe some need to get out and go experience the material that they learned so they can find their footing in what they may enjoy and ironically this field has so much crossover that it's insane and I love it. My time is coming up soon and I'm going to show out
Cyber Security may be in demand but not many companies are hiring even though they have job posts online. They want years of experience regardless of certification. I have Sec+ 701 and it makes no difference.
Watch the whole episode 😅😅 You guys always talk about the cert you have like it means something to companies not in the government sector. If you don’t have the skills and a strategy to get a job you will struggle to land one
@@TechTualChatter That may be true but many people have a hard time getting an interview. If you can't get an interview, how can you show companies your skills? I'm not saying its impossible to get a job in cyber security, I'm saying its a lot harder than people make it out to be.
@@TechTualChatter ok dude. what exactly are the skills and the strategy we need to use to land a job. I have every DoD cert besides CISSP, experience as a sysadmin and help desk and personal projects, a degree and all I got was 12/hr. What is up bro.
I understand what you're saying, and i believe it.. but for whatever reason my developer (UI/UX and back end engineering) friends seem to have an easier time picking and choosing jobs at their whim more than myself and my security friends. And we have experience and certs...
@@Realworlddummy no one disputes that. Also gaining experience to add to your résumé is attainable prior to securing a position. Did you actually listen to her speak or are you just quick to out throw out negative energy?
Coders and developers represent the largest segment of Tech impacted by RIFs last year (26%). We’re in the midst of a white collar recession. HR and Tech professionals are being laid off at an alarming rate. Some have been out of work for more than a year with no calls back or interviews.
I was considering Cybersecurity as a career to pursue 1st but I eventually deciding to get more experience in Network Engineering before pivoting into that role or possibly Cloud Engineering.
Maybe but right now if you search for cybersecurity you saw only few results Specially in India... Jobs available but very rare..... If somebody hates Linux and command line then don't go with cybersecurity 😂😂

wow nice
The only way without pieces of paper is building your professional network. Without the paper, you need to 100% rely on word of mouth and references.

It used to be like that but it’s not like that anymore. People with zero experience are getting security jobs and doing very well in them.

@@westdu5961 agreed. It’s competitive in the US but there are some outliers that happen where people get fair shots at cyber role
@@TechTualChatter I heard of people going from zero to a Cyber role but not the case for everybody specially on this economy.
I just signed up for cybersecurity boot camp and I have 0 experience

Comptia Sec+ in 30 days is impressive 👏
i did it in 23 days without IT experience. Now i am working in HTB CDSA. i made Google Cybersecurity, Linux essensials too.
