I found as my hormones decreased over time after 40 50 now 61 that the muscles 'held' their strength less but I just needed to work them more a little bit but allot of times - so way more management but you can keep muscle - now I sympathize with Women at how hard it is too hold the muscle

You can check out Eccentric movements, mostly slow negatives. Also a lot of reps since they don't have much blood flow. Weights round and below %25 body weight would be safe in general. Stay safe, good luck.

EXCELLENT... But In addition to vitamin D and calcium, bones also need other nutrients to stay healthy, including protein, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin K. Vitamin K is greatly under appreciated in its ability to regulate where calcium is laid down. It can stop calcification in inappropriate places, like arteries, and promote calcification where it is appropriate, i.e. bone and teeth.

    Outstanding lesson!!
My bone growth story: In Jan 2023, age 59, I had my first HTO surgery (High Tibial Osteotomy to straighten my bowed lower legs, which had been bowed since birth, and were destroying the medial compartments of my knees). This was on the right leg. The Tibia was cut through and once it was swung outward to create a straight leg (center of ankle lined up with center of knee, lined up with center of hip ball) that cut in the bone was 18mm (almost 3/4") wide. Bone from the Iliac Crest of the right side of my pelvis was placed in the wedge shaped opening in the Tibia as a bone graft, and a titanium "TomoFix" plate was screwed to the bone over the opening. I ate and supplemented in a specific way to grow bone fast, and did my own PT, taking advantage of early weight bearing. I was on a spin bike at home in week 3 post op. and x-rays at the start of week 4 showed that I had regrown all of that wedge opening, in new bone. Upon seeing the x-rays, my Ortho upped the surgery date for the left leg, from 4-6months post-op, to 8 weeks post op on the 1st leg. He stated he'd never seen anyone grow so much bone, so fast, and he'd never had to open a Tibia so wide during an HTO. I started walking with barely using the crutches for the rest of week 4, and in the middle of week 5, I put the crutches away for good, mowed my back yard with a big weed mower, and purchased an even better spin bike to train on. I also started training on my big elliptical. On day 1 of week 6, I was back to training on my heavy mountain bike, and the same trails that I normally ride it on, and run on. I trained hard for the 2 remaining weeks, right up to the day of the 2nd surgery, and ran in the parking lot of the hospital for the first time, just before checking in for that surgery. My Ortho was just shocked at my recovery. The 2nd surgery went exactly the same, but I was a week early at all recovery phases. By June 1st, I was back to trail running, and as planned, ran another rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon, as a marathon distance, from the North Rim Lodge Lobby, on my 60th, mid-Aug. Following the Grand Canyon, I ramped up the training, and raced a trail Half Marathon in the mountains west of Palo Alto, CA, placing 3rd overall, and in early Oct. returned to the Grand Canyon, to run another rim-to-rim, but as a speed run. I closed out the season by racing another Half in the same mountains, and winning it, and had the plates removed from my Tibias (a year early), in the first week of Dec. 3 weeks later I was back to trail running training, and then went back to downhill skiing. I've become a bit of an inform case study for my Ortho.

Daily exercise is key to as healthy life. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun.
Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly.

It is one of 3 anabolics drugs for osteoporosis. Forteo and Tetraparatide are also anabolics. All three are used for specific situations. Exercise is also anabolic for bone. The anabolic drugs work to enhance osteoblast activity through different mechanisms. The antiresorptive drugs such as Prolia, Fosomax, Alendronate, Reclast, etc work by suppressing the osteoclasts through different mechanisms. In the ideal situation, an anabolic should be given first to grow bone followed by an antiresorptive to prevent the new bone from being lost once the drug is stopped. Anabolics are only effective whilst being used. (Same as HRT therapy and exercise - once stopped, not longer protecting bone).

There's some new research showing that a big reason women specifically get osteoporosis is that they didn't do weight bearing exercise through life. Women who did construction or a more physical job almost never see those problems and women who consistently weight train also do well. Yes, there's still some loss of bone density, but getting to life impacting levels of low bone density was often in women who did low impact work and had low bone strength going into old age

47 and perimenopausal and have been on HRT for 10 weeks to prevent some of this crap. My HRT dose is: 2 mg Estradiol tablet everyday & 100-200 mg Progesterone capsule 10-12 days per month. Perimenopause is a turbulent nightmare one never imagined. Perimenopause is when you start missing periods and have the well know symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. I know I was PREmenopause probably at age 45 & all of 46. I suffered every single day at age 46.

I'm 46, and broke my right foot and ankle in July 2024. I had an ankle fusion with a talus replacement and a rod in my tibia thru the replacement into my heel bone and an external fixator over my leg and foot. My surgeon was amazed at how quick I was healing and got out of the fixator 4 weeks early, 100% weight bearing 2 weeks after that. Luckily I've never been sedentary aside from bed rest for pregnancy and my 4 weeks of being couch bound after surgery.
Now I've been trying to get my right calf muscle back and the pain in the area of the screw in my tibia 😭

I'm 50😢 and starting menopause. I used to have a very active life, work, studies, I also loved cardio exercise, for my Hashimoto Thyroiditis...but I injured my right shoulder and stopped for a while. Then, my chronic fatigue went worse, have no energy at all, no ATP!! and on top of all of this, vit D deficiency. I've been 3 years without exercising...and my body and muscles are getting worse and worse
I just don't know what to do. Chronic Fatigue is so exhausting!! also, migrains and Menière vertigos😢
Too many issues in my organism to live on properly
