Can you please transfer the Q&A part of the session to the UA-cam release in the future? I think it would have been really useful in this particular session. Please remember that in the UK the live session goes out at midnight and some of us seriously need our beauty sleep. Otherwise great show and many thanks.
What an awesome new update for a really cool tool. I cannot wait to download this and see what the new features are like when working on new projects or redoing some old projects too. Keep up the great work and thanks for making the videos where you demonstrate them.
I am not constrained by time, so have never seen the need for auto pass, especially considering the cost. However, I would certainly consider purchasing if auto pass supported taper depth cutting on an open path. This would make slots in draining boards a doddle, so that water flows down the groove in flat surface. I'm sure an algorithm could easily be constructed to determine the length of the path allied to the start and finish depth.
I imagine the Y axis desires have long been on their minds and in the testing labs. The big difference between origin and a traditional CNC gantry table is: you're depending on a fair amount of surface area to slide the origin on top of. As soon as you go from less complex jobs to "3D carving" like.... "lets make a gecko on the sign", you lose surface area and the device can't run as well. There are certainly SOME applications like your sloped groove... but it's going to get VERY challenging both dealing with the surface area issue and the creating drawings themselves will get really technical. Dunno.. I would love it too but, I wonder if that's past the limits of the use cases for a unit that sits directly on the workpiece.
Sorry I missed the live session. Dfam*n dudes, way to go Shaper! This update is a monumental leap! I also jumped on the offer for perpetual Studio. THANK YOU!! I think this will help me be more proficient with this tool and certainly more fun to run.
Software feature wishlist: Lots of grid functions, e.g. saving/copying/switching between multiple grids, creating grids based on all permutations of new/existing grid/feature points/rotation. Hardware feature wishlist: Precisely engineered dummy spindles just for measuring, support for Festool and other bluetooth vacuums, wide multi-row rolls of shaper tape. Next gen wishlist: Data connection between device and spindle to allow for e.g. multi-spindle workflows without manually changing tool settings back and forth, automatic speed reduction on endgrain, detection of dummy spindles, support for completely different tools such as galvo marking lasers
Big Update and interesting Video,,thanks. Do I have to answer the question of what functions I would like to have next right here in the comments or elsewhere to be part in the "give away" ?
I'd like a cheap dummy spindle with a fixed probe. Then in the software you can hit a button saying "I'm using the probe spindle" and it automatically knows the diameter of the probe shaft. Perhaps the probe could have an indexed slot so you could offer different kinds of known probe types like a square one or an L shape. Why? I don't know yet.. But I think you're already reverse calculating simple shapes (circles, rectangles) soon we might trace around a complex shape like a railing with a flat side or the saw insert but in compound passes.. "find the largest possible shape from 4 passes as I run the probe around the inside of this saw insert hole" (smallest for outside passes around the railing) We're already pulling the spindle out to flip the bit for probing... so if I had a cheap thing like this, save time and perhaps increase accuracy, add capabilities.
Another one I think I have seen request for... but adding a bit more: Folder structures on the Origin plus: Ability to connect to the origin to manipulate those structures from a PC (or my web files interface?). It's not great to work on the device.. this way I can use a keyboard/mouse to move this around. Actually, Since you can export designs... why not just replicate ALL the workspaces to my shaper files page? Then I have a backup, I can have less "stuff" on the origin (check boxes for what is replicated to the device, not checked = just exists on files... where i can choose to blow it away if I please. And in there, I can setup a folder structure for projects, etc. I Guess I could have check boxes on the origin -sync to files. select all, etc. When you edit something, it keeps some level of history so you can roll back as needed. Kind of like one drive. I can click on a file, "show previous versions" -revert or copy revision X to Y.
What function should I use to trace a sketch on a work piece? It’s a large sketch. Can you create a probe function with zero offset and as many points as you want to pick and it would create a spline on tool for you.
I think some potential was wasted with circle probing. The rotation of the coordinate axes of the grid created at the center of the circle is determined by the rotation of the origin itself, which makes it somewhat imprecise. It would be more practical to first create a standard grid, for example, at the edges of the workstation, and then have the overriding grid from circle probing adopt the rotation of the coordinate axes from the initial grid. Greetings.

Great additions. A future update I’d love to see would be folders in the workspace section to better organise files

I’m happy to second that suggestion as a great feature update to auto pass.

OMG that juice groove example is a game changer!!! Thank you

Love how Shaper continually improves Origin...awesome!
Looking forward to using these great new features on-tool and in Shaper Studio!
Great job gentlemen, I am looking forward to using the features. This is my first update and am learning with every use!
Nice new features. Thank you!
OK.. finally finished it. Super important question!!!
Why is there a pepper mill on the table?
Very excited about the updates! Can you tell me what bits were used to create the Larkspur and the “Ghost” signs?
Maybe “cycle” is a better term than “toggle” in relation to probing because toggle suggests two choices and cycle three or more.

Can’t wait for them to lower AUTOPASS price

Здравствуйте, господа! Будет ли в будущих обновлениях возможность нарезания резьбы внешней и внутренней? Было бы очень полезно.
Please have a 'fillet' function in the future. Inlays would be so much easier
