I hope people heed the evacuation orders. 20 - 30 inches of rain coming. People can hunker down for initial storm, but the flooding will be inescapable. Be smart. Bravery is staying alive and protecting your family. They can't be replaced. Stuff can. Good Luck.

I go to UNCW and they said we could be out of school for 3 weeks due to projected flooding. We had RA’s helping students on first floor buildings move their things to a safer location due to flooding indoors.
I lived on the coast of NC for many years. We had many hurricanes, including the biggy Hugo. Storm surge was the worst for the beach front, but inland areas as far as Charlotte and beyond was where the horror took place. I found that if you are on the coast, go at least 5 miles inland and hunker down in a concrete building if you can. The storms usually pass quickly and then when farther inland they create tornados and torrential rains. Charlotte during Hugo left people without power for over 2 weeks. That's not good! So get your supplies, food, flashlights, and water NOW! Peanut butter, bread, water, canned goods, like beans, tuna, salmon, chicken, etc, make sure your grill has gas, if you have a grill, if not buy one! Generators are helpful but don't let them be inside your house, hook them up and set them outside. And fill up your car with gasoline. Just be prepared!!! God Bless, stay safe!
If you're reading this and live in the strike zone, heed authorities and GET TO A SHELTER fast. Gather important possessions, board up windows, paint house number on front plywood; take in anything that might become a projectile from around your house. Use hoses to fortify small trees, fences, etc. If you leave one car in your garage slowly roll it to touch your garage door, this will help reinforce garage door. Throw power and water mains when leaving. Also, move furniture away from windows and skylights, shut every door inside house. Florida native advice. Then PRAY.
If you aren't on the beach front don't worry so much. Storm surge is the worst for coastal fronts. Wind is the big factor after it hits land and of course rain. Usually the hurricane moves fast over areas close to the coast and then starts to stall and leave lost of rain and wind. So just be prepared and have your supplies in order. Get it now. The shelves will be empty soon if not already! Have a flash lights, batteries, canned food, bread, water, gas grill would be handy if you don't have one and gas up your car! Fill your bathtub with water so if necessary you can use it to flush your commode. God bless!
I would heed all warnings. As a weather expert I can see this turning Cat 5 just before landfall. Looks like it has some width to gain to the south so will definitely affect Florida also.
