- ASPI military analyst Malcolm Davis says it is “way too early” to speculate on the cause of the helicopter crash involving Iran’s President.
A helicopter carrying Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has been involved in an accident in the north of the country.
“The pilot took the helicopter into mountainous terrain in bad weather and fog which I think was a very imprudent move on his part,” Mr Davis said.
“Now the situation is that rescue teams are trying to find the helicopter to determine if the occupants have survived.”

I have never read about a helicopter crash that had survivors. Even if they did initially survive, I believe the elements will get the best of them because of inevitable injuries and delayed medical care. Flew into the side of a mountain at 150 MPH,pilot probably was not instrument rated. This same scenario has played out 100s of times over the years.Flying into the fog on a mountain range at 150 MPH is suicidal under the best of circumstances.
I guarantee you a pilot flying government members around will defiantly have an instrument rating haha. As if they would hire a pilot without one when theres so many who would have one and a lot more. The Pilot would have at minimum a CPL (commercial pilot licence) as that is the minimum needed to legally fly passengers and make money from it. The CPL licence includes a large amount of instrument flying (IFR) anyway. However, when I think about it I don't know one CPL licenced pilot (and I know many being a one myself) who didn't get a command IFR rating on the PPL (private pilot licence) before starting the CPL course. So he would most defiantly have been IFR rated.

Wrong. Its possible and legal to fly deep below obstacles, its classical mountain flight along gorges. But it requires careful planning and understanding what are you doing.
Reward is awesome views, you can not see anything like this anywhere else - blue water under, gray cliffs aside, green forest above and blue sky. One of the best impressions from all my flights - low level training over Warragamba reservoir.

The Bell 212 is an old, single pilot, utility aircraft. Very old and mostly used for firefighting and construction work. Not a Presidental aircraft. Also hard to maintain even in the Weat. How did they keep them flying with sanctions?

The articles about this today said that the rescuers were in contact with the helicopter survivors. Apparently, the pilot didn't know how to effectively and efficiently do a hard landing. Sometimes and with the right amount of luck you get to repeat the hard landing from either higher up or by flying faster into the Granite Cloud.
