    My 2012 Camry is one of those unlucky ones with the shuttering in the transmission and faulty torque convertors. Toyota replaced it about 2 years ago (for free) but it still has some issues starting up again. At 136k miles I feel my Camry may need a new transmission before 150k. Very disappointed. I bought the Camry because of perceived reliability that Toyota is known for. There is no way I would attempt this job myself. Thanks for showing us.

      Whenever you feel shudder.
      If you intended to keep up speed and not slow down, rev up to over 3,500 rpm to stop shudder then rev back down to normal so you won't feel shudder temporary.
      If you are about to stop or slow down to traffic, lay off gas and shudder will immediately stopped so you can push gas pedal without shudder.
      Drove like that since 3 years because Toyota refused replace mine cuz high mileage.

      Everything now days is created with the intention of planned obsolescence. If something breaks down, or doesn't last, it becomes corporate profit. Exotic, and luxury cars are designed with the highest failure rate. Unfortunately, trucks that are supposed to be the most utilitarian, are now catering to the luxury car enthusiast's. • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  2 роки тому +1

      Transmission fluid expands with heat, and is checked at operating temperature. This thing has a check plug, and no dipstick. You overfill it, get it hot, pull the plug, and let it pour out. When the fluid goes from a pour to a dribble, you put the plug in. I though I explained that pretty well.

    This water under the bridge but they had a recall on torques converters that required a software update as well. I don’t know if it was a lockup issue or what. I have see GM & others do things to hold the front seal in (Some have 3 screws) but the front pump busing? Some use thread locker and stake the aluminum around it, but their are few excuses to the pump bushing to stick to converter unless little supply, little drain back or not centered. That’s crazy! Any root cause determined? I thing I will but a horse and install a post-poop-catch-all behind the tail pipe. Some heavy canvas, snaps and solar heater, then it will look like a 1968 John Deere 4020, grocery wagon not included! ASE Master Tech since 1978-Retired!
    ( No 2,000 salt spray test will ever impress me again, It needs 100,000 hours plus another 80k in heat at 90 -100 degrees F. Then, all manufactures executives & directors must drive their cars built completely of scotch locks wiring systems ) Damn throwaway cars. That’s what they make.

I got this vibration from tranny at certain low rpm ranges that gradually getting worse, so assuming its that torque converter.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  2 роки тому

      I doubt it is a converter. When something is spinning, and is full of fluid, it has a habit of balancing its self. Unless you believe it has a slipping lock up converter clutch. I personally wouldn't even take a chance with all that work, and of course I could be wrong about something.

    Only question. How did you know when to stop letting fluid out when checking the level? It looked like it started to dribble a little bit and then you put plug back in. Is that what you did?

      Yes. There was a steady stream, and when it started dribbling, I put the plug in.

    Hi Admin and Guest! I have the same Toyota Camry 2009 and has transmission issue. What do you suggest gear repair or replacement.
    These are the problems I have
    1. Problem started with bang sound while shifting P to R
    2. 2nd and 3rd gear shifting was very hesitant.
    3. Now, only R is working D is working only short distance with low gear and stop in the middle of the road.
    4. Transmission oil has burnt smell.
    Please suggest guys

    How many hours to change just the torque converter?
    2014 Camry.
    In the shop now and they're saying 4 to 5 days. Hopefully Aamco knows what the F they're doing.
    My car is like brand new. It just rolled 100K and had the notorious torque shuddering problem.
    But the car is literally brand new.
    Engine bay is spotless and so is the underside.
    Being fixed under warranty thru Carvana. I can't sleep at nights thinking they have my car and don't know what they're doing.
    They took a whole day to diagnose the problem even after I told them that it's definitely the torque converter. Then they said: Hey, you're torque converter is bad. DUH!
    Then they put 42 miles on my car to test drive it.

Poor quality control all around. The "time", and "It's a waiter" game. The love of money being the root of all evil. Should I go on? I have been doing this for 30 years, and thankfully work alone now. Less problems that way. 100 fold.

    whats funny is ive had people tell me its lifetime fluid for a trans on these things which i know is bs. whats your opinion.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 роки тому +3

      My opinion is sometimes best not to have one. Cars don't last a real lifetime. I think a lifetime to a manufacturer is 10 years, and they do not extrapolate how many miles a life is. It's just a made up word. They are in the business of selling you new stuff.

    • @auaq
      @auaq 3 роки тому

      There's no real easy answer to this question. A lot of manufacturers have designed fluids that's suppose to last say 120 -180k miles. The reason being that a lot of owners tend to upgrade to newer cars say after 3-5 or maybe 8 years, and either sell or trade in their old vehicles. With this trend owner's don't really have to spend too much money on servicing their vehicle a lot. There are certain items that are meant to last as long as they can. There's no definite/fixed schedule to replace/flush out the transmission fluid, sometimes this includes engine coolant too. It all depends on manufacturers maintenance plan. My personal opinion is that as long as the transmission is shifting fine and working fine, then leave it alone. Unless, there's an issue with it then diagnose it first, determine what's the issue, and then follow the recommended repair procedures to repair it. This could be anything from just a simple drain and fill, maybe reprogramming the ECU/TCU, to replacing a component or two of the transmission, or replacing the entire thing. Hope this makes sense.

    When she got the flush.. It probly push to seal out of place

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 роки тому

      Everything was completely dry. They probably used a machine, and what came out, didn't go back in. After that, they didn't check the level. That's what I'm figuring. I have been around flush machines long enough to know what people do. It was not even driven 200 miles, and there was no noticeable leaks. The shop that did the work said it was not their fault, because if it was that low, it wouldn't work, and did not pay for any of the repair.
