Can you react to "Fruits Basket (2019-2021)"? It's about a normal girl named Tohru Honda. She gets to know the Sohma family, who turn out to have a curse. So Tohru's goal becomes to trying to break the curse. It's a beautiful, heartbreaking story! One of the best anime series i've ever seen! 😭💔🔥
Fun fact about Overlord's author, which is kinda inspiring. The author has never played MMOs, so he has no idea how they work, but he was playing a lot of Dungeons & Dragons with his friends, but because of the work they began to play less and less, so he decided to write Overlord for fun WHILE WORKING A FULL TIME JOB, and he never expected it become so big.
Too bad he's losing his inspiration because fan translations are faster than official translations so the piracy is kinda pissing him off. You can tell Overlord was peak with the Holy Kingdom arc and fell off after the Re-Estize kingdom arc, spent an entire book reading about medicine and a character that I didn't care about. I wish he took a break and came back when he found inspiration again.
24:55 - 25:05 - it was cut off from the anime, but in the original LN he was thinking about if the NPCs are even loyal to him, so he prepared different items to fight off and run away, in case they weren't loyal. It's also never mentioned in the anime, but in real world Japan is in post-apocalyptic state with MAXIMUM HORRIBLE air pollution, and everyone is basically slaves to giant corporations. So, the real world is basically a dystopia - which is why people are escaping into VRMMOs.
concerning the pollution it gets mentioned in passing in the next episode, that his comrade blue planet would've loved to see a clear sky like the one in the new world. so not directly but it is sort of implied.
Momonga was a undead spell caster who evolved into a lich necromancer. Then with spell and skill speaks evolved again in to a Overlord. So he is the Overlord of the undead thus the name of the series @@GOTGames
Isekai just means transported to another world, being reborn is tensei, both can be present at the same time but you don’t need to be reborn to be isekaied and just because you’re reborn doesn’t mean it’s isekai
@@DragonSword35d if the world is different enough it still is an isekai even if the planet itself is the same... therefore Ya boy Kong Ming IS an isekai... just not one of the most common tropes... Dr. Stone also is an isekai btw...
5:30 Yggdrasil (pronounced Ig-Drazil) is the name of the massive World Tree in Norse mythology. held within it's branches are the 9 Realms of Norse legend (Midgard, Asgard, Helheim, Jotunheim, etc.) its a pretty common fake name for Japanese/Korean MMORPG in manga/manhua. it's just supposed to call into your mind the idea of a massive, European-style fantasy world with tons of realms in it, especially for those in the East. the tree is important in the story of Yggdrasil, the game, but not overly important in the story of Overlord, the anime. it's a nice piece of background knowledge to have going forward, but it won't ruin your understanding of the show if you don't know.
Actually, the tree is a central theme of the game, The "World Items" which are referenced frequently, are each created from one of the tree's leaves. They're items that have the power of an entire world. In the game, there were also world bosses, enemies created from leaves of the tree. So the game being named for the tree is more thematic than just a generic name.
Also from Luke's question in AOT openings reaction Ymir name and powers reference the Ymir creation myth from Norse mythology also the Tree/roots that connect all eldians to the founder power and the centipede thing.
Isekai literally translates as "Another World". The trope of isekai anime is being transported to a different world, no matter the method, either be it reincarnation (tensei), summoning, or a gate.
And to be slightly more specific, though kinda obvious... the main character has to be from a different world from the one where the story happens, usually a version of ours but not necessarily... not just that the story happens in a different world... if we had an RPGish world but the characters are naturally born or originate in that world it is just a normal fantasy...
There is a reason he chose to ask Albedo if he could touch her chest out of any other test he could have possibly ran. He briefly touched on it in the show but there was more to it in the light novel. This isn't a spoiler, this is just to add more context. Yggdrasil, and other games like it, are heavily monitored games and there are a lot of rules in those games. There are rules against sexual contact with other players in the game, just for example, so in his mind the logic was "if I do this thing the admins of the game may swoop down and take me away." so he was wanting to see if that would work. But also Yggdrasil doesn't function as a game with those sorts of functions because there's no program to feel or touch anything. So that's the second thing. Also a side-note. Albedo is a succubus, so there's a reason for how she acts lol
I loved his What's Going On? reaction. My initial thought was that for a brief moment Albedo was living her best life. She had it all in her mind. The large Mausoleum with a white picket fence. All the kids playing with the Death Knight. Ahh it was so wholesome.
A fun lil fact regarding Momonga and Albedo's interaction: The reason she was reacting kinda lewd was because Momonga is capable of emitting a negative energy upon touch (but he didnt realize it was on), so Albedo felt it
I love overlord, It's author is a huge D&D nerd and it shows. The world building and characters are good enough that i forget that it's an isekai sometimes.
Its finally here! By the way please pay attention to the comments on this series, as they give information that is always extremely good to know, the anime tends to cut out alot from the light novel. also there is a post-credit scenes in some episodes. This is some info from episode 1 that should clarify stuff for you without spoilers. The green light that illuminates Momonga every time he gets excited is a kind of "emotional inhibitor" that he obtained by becoming undead and that returns him to a calm state every time he is about to lose control. Albedo's creator was an obsessed gamer who loved Gap Moe, that is, the "contradiction of appearance and behavior". Albedo is designed to look like a goddess. Her setting "on the outside she is a perfect beauty, but on the inside she is a bitch" is kind of a mistranslation but not really. "bitch" in japan means something different. In Japan bitch is more referred to a slut. Thankfully Momonga modified/deleted this. A big misconception is that he is "stuck in the game " , this is not the case , his guild actually got transported into "The New World" , which is not a game at all but an actual other world he got transported too. the Game is irrelevant to this new word to a capacity.
As far as i remember the base they use was just a dungeon they settled in, the gms for some reason allowed it. Not saying youre wrong that you could build a base. But they did not :D they just transformed a dungeon. "Right after the guild was created, Momonga would lead Ainz Ooal Gown and its members to an unknown dungeon called the Great Tomb of Nazarick thanks to the efforts of his friend, Nishikienrai, for locating it. Due to Momonga's leadership and cooperation with his guild members, it led to the guild being able to conquer the Great Tomb of Nazarick " Also as far as i know whole game Yggdrasil was DnD based kinda. And while momonga was known for his build only beeing made for "RP" (or idk how to put it :D but it was not a really good combat build) some of his friends were not as commited (for example Tabula Smaragdina whos build was more combat focused)
@@ceddisvlog there is a World Item that makes the player wish something from the GM´s... althought something feasible.. not like be Lvl 1000 and be Immortal... so the Guild could have possibly used it to some extent... also it is stated that Nazarick collected 11 World Items out of the 200 that are supposed to exist in the game of Yggdrasil... but since i havent read the novel at all just seen some video reviews from Overlord (mainly AniNews channel) i dont think they used any item to get Nazarick.. just a regular big ass dungeon that they conquered and redesigned afterwards
@@quantumphayer You're right in the last part; they didn't use any item or special request to get the base. It was standard for dungeons to become guild bases after it's beaten. What made Nazarick special was that it was first discovered by Ainz' guild and they beat it on the first try, which gave them extra rewards (extra allocation of levels for NPCs and a World Item-- the Throne Ainz uses).
Thanks for reacting to this! Warning: Pay attention to the post-credit scenes in some chapters. I'll give you some clarifications just from this chapter: The green light that illuminates Momonga every time he gets excited is a kind of "emotional inhibitor" that he obtained by becoming undead and that returns him to a calm state every time he is about to lose control. In the Yggdrasil game one could get a base if their Guild reached a certain size and they even allowed them to customize their defensive NPCs. There were all kinds, although the protagonist only mentions one in the novel that had the theme of cats. The protagonist's Guild was designed around the Dungeons & Dragons theme, which is the source of inspiration for almost all of Overlord. Naturally, since teleportation magic existed, the protagonist and his guild almost always appeared in specific places and didn't interact much with NPCs after designing them. That is why he does not remember very well which were the pre-programmed orders that controlled them. Albedo's creator was an obsessed gamer who loved Gap Moe, that is, the "contradiction of appearance and behavior". Albedo is designed to look like a goddess and even her name means whiteness, but in reality she must be someone quite evil and in the final line it was added that she "she is a nymphomaniac". Momonga modified this thankfully. In the world of the protagonist (a dystopian future) there are many laws for virtual reality. For example: At least 2 of the 5 senses must be blocked or reduced so that no one gets carried away and confuses fiction with reality, that's why Ainz is so surprised that Albedo has smell and body heat, because those are always the senses blocked in video games. Also, when he... touches her, he does it because in his country there are many public moral restrictions and one is not supposed to do anything perverted without an alert being given to the authorities. If he were to stay in a game, even if the admins don't want him out, the government would find out that he had done an out-of-bounds action and raise an alarm. In the Ygdrassil game, the account of the player who tried to go too far was deleted and his name was published on a kind of digital wall so that everyone knew. (Super strict!) Ainz is quite cautious and takes the scepter to the arena to test its magic, because if it doesn't work he can tell that the scepter isn't working right and the NPCs won't find out that he is defenseless. There are still 2 Floor Guardians that have not been shown. This is because they have somewhat dangerous characteristics and Ainz doesn't want to risk seeing them until he is sure of the NPCs' allegiance. The Great Tomb of Nazarick was originally a dungeon conquered by the Guild of Ainz Ooal Gown, who rebuilt it when they made it their base. It has a total of 10 floors and is full of traps that become more deadly as they descend, waiting for any invader off guard. The first 3 floors are Catacombs, where several dozen undead roamed in the dark and are protected by the vampire Shalltear. The fourth floor is an underground lake and It is protected by a Guardian named Gargantua, who has only been mentioned. The Fifth Floor is a wide area filled with numerous icebergs and It is protected by Cocytus. The sixth floor is a Jungle that is actually underground, but it doesn't look like it because one of the guild members went to great lengths to design a digital sky that was as realistic as possible. That's where the Amphitheater is, too, and the guardians are the dark elf twins. The seventh floor This floor is an area filled with crimson lava that flows like a river and looks like hell. That's why the demon Demiurge is the guardian The eighth floor is the most mysterious of all and we don't know much about it even in the novels. But we know that no invader of Yggdrassil ever managed to overcome it. It is protected by a guardian named Victim. The ninth floor is the place where the Guild members lived and interacted and has many different areas. One of them was the Round Table where they had their meetings. It was protected by the butler Sebastian and the Battle Maids. The tenth floor is the Throne Room where the Guild members would gather to face the invaders in the last battle, although this never happened because no one made it that far. It is protected by Albedo. There is one more place, but it is separated from the rest and talking about it in the first chapter would be a spoiler. I hope this information has served to understand some things.
Sometimes to add: one of the reasons the guild was never successful invaded was because Ainz Ooal Gown (the guild) used several boarder-line exploits when setting up traps.
I knew you'd be here, the overlord fanatic 😂 From where do you have the information about his old world though? I read the novel like 2 years ago and as far as I remember he never really mentions it.
@Skyl3t0n not sure about a specific source as I haven't read the novel but I've heard the stuff about his old world being a post-apocalyptic dystopia where the air is highly polluted and everyone's basically a corporate slave from several sites and people, including Wikis, years ago and thought that even though its left out of the anime it was still common knowledge to major fans just from the Wikis and community word-of-mouth.
Thank you! Explaining the floors has only made me so curious to find out more about them and explaining the world makes a lot of the decisions and the game make a lot more sense 💯💯
Congrats on starting your Overlord journey. I watched the original series of Overlord as an anime-only and enjoyed the experience a lot. I will comment more on the show premise itself in later episodes, but it is a show based on a light novel where knowing something about adaptations is particularly important. So here is some context: Shows Like Dr. Stone, One Punch Man, HunterxHunter, and all 7 of the other “long anime” you recently reacted to the first episode of are based on Manga. Manga are essentially Japanese comics, though they do tend to have more diverse storylines than Western ones (which are almost entirely superhero stories). Anime that originally came from Manga tend to adapt everything from the source material and if anything they actually add things, and create “filler” not found in the source. In contrast shows like Overlord, Re-Zero, No Game No Life, and I Got Reincarnated as a Slime were originally based on a series of light novels. However, these “light novels” are sometimes anything but light when it comes to their length and story depth, which often far exceed the length of Lord of the Rings (this is particularly true of Overlord). The amount of the source material adapted also varies a lot between shows. Three examples I’ve actually read span across the spectrum: No Game No Life: The anime may end with one of the biggest anime cliffhangers ever(an anime-only ending too) but the 3 novels it adapts leave almost 0 dialogue out, only a couple details of any real significance failed to make it into the show. Re-Zero: Despite the anime being a very high-quality adaptation a lot of Dialogue, Lore, Foreshadowing etc. found in the Novels was left out. However, few scenes from the Light Novel were entirely cut (and most that were happened in arc 3/second half of season 1). Dialogue giving important hints was also often shortened to a single line in the anime from a more complete explanation in the novels but rarely left out entirely. Overlord: Just like in Re-Zero a lot of Dialogue, Lore, and Foreshadowing is left out, but in addition, a comparatively large number of scenes are cut from the anime entirely, and many of the mysteries and Lore you learn about in the novels are not referenced at all in the anime. The anime does still manage to tell a cohesive story, and is epic on its own(also it has one of the best soundtracks), but the difference in information between a novel reader and an anime-only watcher is very large. In fairness, this is in part because the author does an incredible amount of world-building in the form of exposition or dialogue that would be hard to fit in, but that still means Overlord has one of the biggest differences in story feeling and knowledge between anime and Novels. 31:05 Well that actually sums up the plot rather well :D
Overlord was the first anime that made me go buy the light novels because I was so curious to see where the story would go. Hope you enjoy the journey.
About the "Is this isekai?" That's how originally isekai started - transporting into a game world, the character didn't really have to die, but nowadays, it's different.
@@2DTL well no. But they got transported to another world. Like Ainz did here. He didn't die and all he did was stay logged into a game until the game no longer existed.
@@2DTL the way you commented first made it seem like you were suggesting SAO was one of the oldest examples. Especially cause not every isekai is the same. I mean look at Tanya the evil. That's also different.
Overlord has amazing premise and a good story with lots of interesting concepts to ponder. Where it falls short is the animation budget. Anime can be rough at times, but the narrative is good enough that it will carry you through such misgivings.
23:00 to explain albedos reaction to everything that just happened: shes a succubus and momonga programmed her to love him at the last minute using her lore/settings page just before the isekai
Fun fact: Momonga had actually sent out several emails to the guild members asking them to stay logged until the end. He had prepared an island that had its entire surface filled with fireworks which he was going to ignite during the last minutes of the server
Next year is Overlord's 10th year anniversary, this series still holds up well considering it was made in 2015. My favorite anime of all time, i've seen the first 3 seasons 13 times through, and the 4th season at least 6 times.
21:20 from what I understood from some lore videos doing any +18 action in that game was prohibited, it would result in permanent ban+account deletion. Ainz was doing it in an attempt to see if he can free himself from the game.
Just so you know, each floor of Nazarick is it's own "instance" so it includes stuff like sky boxes. So essentially each floor is a different dimension, connected together to form the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
I remember giving a very detailed summary of this series that left out the Isekai aspect of the show when you first reacted to the openings. Oh this is going to be fun.
Oh hell yes, Luke is watching Overlord in the main channel? I’m so happy! He’s been starting episode 1s of so many mega series on the other channel I have no idea what’s going on over there.
This is another very very common type of isekai. Video game isekai account for nearly half of all isekai, and has been around for quite a few years longer (on a mainstream scale at least) than the isekai tropes you're familiar with.
5:30 Yggdrasil (pronounced ig-drasil) is the tree of life in Norse mythology, it shows up a lot in fiction in general. 17:30 Isekai's are usually reincarnation or summoning, but any methods could be used to go from one world to the other. In this case its more of a wombo combo of the entire guild being summoned to another world and the guild all becoming real. 26:44 Nope :) 35:06 Dw, doujins make sure to give him a mighty bone :)
25:15 the tomb of nazarick is a player made dungeon so its massive dungeons in fantasy themed manga/anime dont always look like ruins or caves they can just have something that looks like outside inside or underground
Overlord first three episodes do a lot of set up for the story. The amount of world building in the story is what makes the series so charming. Fun Fact: The writer of Overlord was the Dungeon Master for a dnd campaign. Which his players kept dropping out of or being too busy to play. The Author got so frustrating that his work into world building and planning the sessions was being wasted. So in his free time he started to write overlord which to me explains why the opening scene at the table feels so real. It was the author venting his frustrations. To answer some of the questions: It’s never said in the anime: Japan has massive air pollution and it’s in a cyberpunk corporate dystopia. So people play these VR MMOs to escape reality. 1) Has he been Isekaied / is he in game? - This will be addressed over the next few episodes. 2) Does he have the right bone? Addressed comedically in season 2. 3) why did he touch albedo? The game was heavily moderated. If you attempted such actions you would be swiftly banned or ejected from the game. Note he did this action after seeing the NPCs talk to him (sometimes they didn’t do before) and they followed orders which were outside the the basic commands. By this a I mean before, the NPCs would only respond to very specific commands sick as follow or stay.
All Isekai means is that the characters end up in another world. Technically speaking, SAO is an Isekai, although that is a bit of a stretch. There are a number of ways to go about it, but being reborn or being summoned are two of the most common. No, the bone daddy does not have a bone.
It's often really overlooked, specially in the anime since more subtle things like these usually shine more in the novels, but I think one of the things Overlord does the best is the melancholy of a long list past. So much of Momonga's character is so deeply rooted in the longing for the adventures and friends he used to have, and the way that is conveyed is incredible. As the audience, we never had the chance to witness it, and we never got to know his old friends, and when he speaks of it so fondly, it makes us wish we knew what it was like. That want is what ends up making us relate to the character so deeply. It's an incredible meta narrative and really succeeds in making the audience feel what the character does, even I through a different reason. I would even say that's THE main appeal of his character. I think the only other series that manages to give the same feeling is Frieren, and that alone says a lot.
When I first watched the first episode it was like 10 PM, and then I finished season 1 and 2 in a day. I didn't sleep whatsoever lol. 21:00 HE JUST LIKE ME FR
The anime doesn't really go into it, but apparently the reason Nazarick is so important to Ainz is that his real world is essentially a dystopian nightmare where the air is filled with smog and normal life is just run by corporations the run their employees into the dirt. So this VR world was really the only escape from the horrors or daily life. It kinda mimics the feeling Isekais in general try to appeal to, the desire to escape into another world. Ainz already had that strong desire which made him love Yggrasildur and his friends in the Tomb of Nazarick, it was felt more like "living" than real life did.
Not exactly the reason... Ainz was about to quit until he got saved by touch me, and found people he could actually call friends despite their different situations and upbringings. He treasures them and all their memories together, thinking there was no greater treasure in the world
Unfortunately for Albedo it doesn't look like Ainz will ever give her any action since tampering with her settings is one of the biggest regrets Ainz has ever had. Her "thirsty" acts although tempting for any man, is sad for Ainz knowing that he tampered with one of his friends creations and can never turn her back.
The aspect I love most about this anime is its incredibly vast world map, which sets it apart from other anime. Unlike in other anime, you don't even see such a world map. Not only is its world expansive, but it is also vibrant, and you can clearly observe the impact of the main character on this world. Lastly, despite Overlord being heavily censored, it is truly successful.
iirc, Yggdrasil is a very "hardcore" video game, with perma death unless revived by shenanigans (magic and/or items), just saying to "correct"/add to what you said about NPCs and PCs respawning. Also, the game, as said in the beginning, there's a ton of player freedom. That's why Momonga and Co are "evil", they deliberately chose to take that role instead of being "Heroes", which is pretty neat and something common to do on games that allow such choice. Also also, The game is very D&D inspired, which is neat imo. (totally not a nerd) I dunno what else to say or add as non spoilery fun facts, so, just enjoy the Anime, is pretty good.
Yes!! Welcome to Overlord! Man I enjoy watching you giving tons of questions the second a show starts😁 Probably the other word you are looking for is "Tensei" which means reincarnation. So Overlord is a Isekai fantasy anime, but not a Tensei one.
I think that it's better that it doesn't explain anything. It makes you feel like you know as much as the MC. I hate it when the anime feels like it needs to explain everything right away. Also, if you think about it, the breast part is actually a genius idea. No one would implement R18 elements into this type of mmorpg officially.
Overlord is definitely not an anime I'd recommend for first time anime watchers. It actually flips a lot of tropes, so a lot of the quality is lost on newcomers and it can be strange at times. I find it immensely entertaining, though, and hope you do as well! If you like fantasy and DnD themes, you will love it!
I'll answer a few of the questions you asked watching this episode and do so without spoiling anything. At the end of my comment, I'll also recommend something that might heighten your appreciation of this series. 1- Herohero was, indeed, extremely powerful. I'm pretty sure it isn't mentionned in the anime, so I'll mention it here, but it might be a very slight spoiler that won't really change the way you'll watch the anime, so it shouldn't be too bad to explain this... Ains Ooal Gown was, in Yggdrasil, one of the best guild. It was in the top 5 of the game, which means every last member at the highest spot of the guild had to be very strong. As a matter of fact, they also had the number 1 PvP player in the guild and not by a small margin. One again, it isn't explained in the anime so I'll put it here... Touch Me had a reason to chose that name, he was so good he was litteraly unbeatable. As a matter of fact, Momonga might even be one of the weakest member among them, but that clearly doesn't mean he was weak in any shape or form. 2- Isekai mean transported to another world. It can by dying and being reincarnated, being summoned or any other way. Him becoming a part of that world is an isekai since he changed the world he lived in. 3- When hetouched Albedo's chest, he wasn't taking advantage of her or anything, he was really testing something important. In Yggdrasil, anything 18+ related wasn't possible except maybe ERP. Touching an NPC's chest just was totaly impossible. The fact he was able to do it just confirmed something extremely important to Momonga : he wasn't in Yggdrasil anymore. The fact he did ir for so long wasn't because he liked what was happening, but because the choc of that revelation was so important he just didn't realise anymore what he was doing. 4- Why is he called Victim? Well, it's a cute name, isn't it? Now, my recommendation. Once you'll be done with the first season of the show, I would highly recommend you look for a youtube channel called AniNews (not in 2 words, that's another channel, in one word) That guy have a really great series of video called skipped content where he explain what was skipped during the adaptation of multiple series. He did one on Overlord and there is a huge amount of skipped content that will really make you understand and appreciate things better. Now, don't get me wrong, Overlord is one of the best adaptation there is right nest to Frieren, but they had to skip a lot of stuff in order to make a digestible season. He also have on for Kono Suba if you are interested, and another series you might be interested on his channel is where he explain how strong some of Overlord characters are, like Shalltear, Albedo, Sebas and almost all of the others. He really goes deep in the lore in both series, so I'm pretty sure you'll find them interesting.
@@-Apoptos- Oh, right, top 10. Sorry, my mistake, it's been a while since I've read the light novels. Now, I disagree with you. The guild ranking is a good indicator of their strenght, not perfect by any means, but still a pretty good indicator. If they were weak, they wouldn't be top 100. If they weren't somewhat strong, they wouldn't be top 50. If they weren't very strong, they wouldn't be top 10. Now, sure, the guild have lost a lot of it's strenght since most of it's players stop playing, but that rank is a very good indicator of it's real strenght when they were active. What you say is like saying the scovile ladder isn't a good indicator of how spaicy a pepper is.
@@rebaxbayushi577 its because guild ranking is decided by a number of different factors. The guild ranked as number 2 had a weak base and few world items but were ranked so highly because of how much they explored. Ainz Ooal Gown itself is weak in guild battles but because they have have a great guild base, and at least 4 times the amount of world items of any other guild, they were able to reach rank 9 at their peak, and 29th at the end of the game
@@-Apoptos- What you say is true, but also kind of... hum how could I put it... elitist? Don't take it as an attack, but you clearly have an opinion on what a guild strenght should be in that game, or members strenght. Like I said, if they were weak, they wouldn't have reach that spot, that's an undeniable fact. As a matter of fact, you've proved it yourself with your comment. They have so many world items, something that wasn't easy to obtain (although some of them were cash items, most of them weren't and they had to find them and get them, something already hard in PvE in that game) The fact a huge part of those Wi were taken from other guilds speak a lot about their strenght, and not all of them were obtain while defending Nazarick, they went on the offense quite often too. Ainz Ooal Gown was a very strong guild. Touch Me was the number 1 PvP player in the game and all of them were at least in the top 500 (if I remember correctly, if I'm wrong, those who weren't were very close to it) The fact they were able to build Nazzarick and gather all of thos WI while being hunted by the vast majority of players because they weren't human, therefor a target for the human players is a testament to that strenght. Nazarick and the items only made them even stronger and rightfully deserving of the 9th rank. After all, items, base, player strength, strategy, NPC and everything else is the guild's strenght, and to achieve it, you need the basic, player strength. Without it, you won't achieve the rest.
Isekai means you're transported to another world. That includes reincarnation, being summoned there, spirited away, sucked into a vortex or anything along those lines. Reincarnation is just the most common version of that.
Yes it's another world, not just inside the game but him, his whole base, and all NPCs which are now real living beings were transported on another world. To simplify it: Not a game but another world. They got transported to it. No NPCs, all of them are real beings now. Also make sure not to miss the end-credits after the ending song. Most episodes has one.
This is my favorite anime, looking up their names lead me through interesting rabbit holes, especially the Demiurge which has cool stories in Gnosticism about something called Sophia who created Demiurge/Yaldebaoth by accident. Also, Albedo's name, is another word for Saturn(Edit: No it isn't, I'm wrong).
"Is he trapet into a videogame? that this even count as Isekai" - Well, actually the first (or at least first to become popular) Isekai was about people traped in a videogame. The concept of "isekai" means "traped in another world" the nature of that world could be absolutely anything.
I didn't know Overlord was set so far in future. 2126 is when game started and 2138 is when it ended. 26:05 Congratulations on understanding Momonga's character. His human and game personality switching all the time. 35:05 That is indeed very important.
GOTGames, bro! Thank you, truly. For beginning to watch Overlord! Your in for a ride! I actually bought the first volume of the light novel and the covers and art are beautiful!!!
Finding yourself in world based on game (or the world a game is based on) is common occurrence, difference is wether u are a hero, villain, supporting character or total nobody. Some characters choose to live quietly, away from commotion, some choose to do whatever they want and some decide to help people they liked as NPCs.
Isekai Quartet is a good spread of showing how different characters get Isekaied: Tanya: Dies and goes to an other world. Kazuma dies and goes to another world dies, stays there, dies stays there Ainz Ool Gown (aka spicy Skeletor): Doesnt die and goes to a different world Subaru: Doesnt die and goes to a different world, dies, dies, dies, dies... dies... dies? Thats a lot of deaths.... Im sure that stops some time.... Oh he dies again.
Yggdrasil is the name of the world tree from Norse Mythology, and you've most likely seen something inspired by it before, since it's the inspiration for A LOT of stuff. Almost anything that includes a gigantic magic tree, in fact.
NERDCORE: Divide music: Back down All that's left No way out Worlds collide No way out Left behind Fabvl: Die for you Under my skin Can't go back The end Cross my heart reimagined Hiding in the dark Daddyphatsnaps (dps): Malevolent Rumbling Switch Canon event Let him cook Eye for eye Dizzyeight: Lately Decay Lost control Lost myself One for all Rogue Rustage: Take everything Running Blood Running in blind Going for the kill Oni
That final change to Albedo's settings. He has no idea how much that saves his ass over time. One of the two npc's in the guild who could find him out.
Overlord is one of my favorite anime mainly because of Ains! He is one of the best representations of trapped in a game cuz he seriously sometimes does not know what to to/ has no clue what he is doing
Ainz isn't trapped in a game. the entire guild base and himself, get sent to another world. the game has nothing to do with it anymore to an extent. SPOILER: Only reason theres items from the game in this world is because of past players being transported to this world. The Dragon Emperor summoned the players from another reality into the new world because he was looking for powerful items and weapons across multiple universes
@@paopao. ainz knows hes not affected by the +18 action ban and that Nazarick is in a different location. None of that tells him hes in an entirely different world unrelated to the game until he asks the village chief. The spoiler I referred to was the other half of his comment
Victim is explained in the Novel but we never see its power used. Victim isn't a combat machine but a living sacrifice. When 'Killed' he activates a level 100 containment spell a mile across that traps everyone in its area of affect motionless. The Guild ring allows movement in the containment. When the containment spell ends Victim is 'resurrected' into its not really alive, not dead state.
my actual reaction whne i saw the video pulled up on my screen was "no way" well fellas you know what this mean, we soon will be able to see he's reaction to isekai quartet
Just a reminder Overlord does have some after credit scenes episode 4 & 9 this first season.9:50 stayed online with other player in a game doing the countdown on the server, sad times. 19:58 There is a movie made from all the episodes of season one with some extra scenes one of which shows him plugging a jack in his neck. 20:59 doing an R rated action in a PG game usually gets you kicked from the game for a bit so he's trying to get out of the game. This confirms to him that he's not in his game anymore. 35:10 Well, Bone Daddy being a skeleton isn't packing ATM but being a high level mage with lots of magic items may have some work arounds.
One can't actually *just* teleport around their base. They actually have a sophisticated system in place in case any invaders capable of teleporting made it inside (Base invasions were a MAJOR undertaking in the game). The rings were the ONLY things capable of bypassing the those defenses
Overlord is a very fun show, and it helps to continue to lead into Isekai Quartet. Day 44 of requesting Luke to react to the original songs from Phase Connect gen 3, although really, it’s all of Phase’s music that he should listen to.
I think that the weight of Momon's isolation is an interesting part of this story. The new world has so many aspects of the original game, that it is hard to prove that it is not really something artificial. No matter what connections you make, they might never feel as real as those of his guildmate friend.

Part 4 of OF ISEKAI QUARTET!!!!!
If I remember correctly, I think overlord was a DnD campaign that he couldn't play with his friends, so he adapted to a book instead.
Oh I love that!!
Makes sense. The game design is terrible and the spells are obviously from DnD or inspired by it :D
@@AecoYT Specifically 3.5E
Too bad he's losing his inspiration because fan translations are faster than official translations so the piracy is kinda pissing him off. You can tell Overlord was peak with the Holy Kingdom arc and fell off after the Re-Estize kingdom arc, spent an entire book reading about medicine and a character that I didn't care about. I wish he took a break and came back when he found inspiration again.
I can't believe! It will be a honor accompany you guys in this journey! 💀 All hail Ainz Ooal Gown

@@drcheeze It's not really. It might be interpreted like "he would love to see THIS sky again / other clear sky in any other ingame location".
Ah thank you for explaining! That definitely helps explain the decisions and the games 💯💯

Really good explanation! (Although you didn't mention my favorite Niflheim.)
But excellent! ❤
@@HungerTheLetsPLay that's actually a very good point. not gonna lie i actually forgot about that.
didn't you claim to have viking roots before? when talking about VinLand Saga in Twitch beforeduring the AoT arc and Rimuru arc? BLASPHEMY!
Isekai literally translates as "Another World". The trope of isekai anime is being transported to a different world, no matter the method, either be it reincarnation (tensei), summoning, or a gate.
My fav way is by truck-kun.
37:00 transition
As well as the fact that she is now madly in love with him
I loved his What's Going On? reaction. My initial thought was that for a brief moment Albedo was living her best life. She had it all in her mind. The large Mausoleum with a white picket fence. All the kids playing with the Death Knight. Ahh it was so wholesome.
A fun lil fact regarding Momonga and Albedo's interaction: The reason she was reacting kinda lewd was because Momonga is capable of emitting a negative energy upon touch (but he didnt realize it was on), so Albedo felt it
Oh... Oh

I love overlord, It's author is a huge D&D nerd and it shows. The world building and characters are good enough that i forget that it's an isekai sometimes.
Well he is a nerd of Japanese D&D derrivatives, but yeah. I also love this aspect and how it is played with during the series.
Already feels like it's going to be a lot of fun!
Due to Momonga's leadership and cooperation with his guild members, it led to the guild being able to conquer the Great Tomb of Nazarick "
Also as far as i know whole game Yggdrasil was DnD based kinda. And while momonga was known for his build only beeing made for "RP" (or idk how to put it :D but it was not a really good combat build) some of his friends were not as commited (for example Tabula Smaragdina whos build was more combat focused)
@@ceddisvlog there is a World Item that makes the player wish something from the GM´s... althought something feasible.. not like be Lvl 1000 and be Immortal... so the Guild could have possibly used it to some extent... also it is stated that Nazarick collected 11 World Items out of the 200 that are supposed to exist in the game of Yggdrasil... but since i havent read the novel at all just seen some video reviews from Overlord (mainly AniNews channel) i dont think they used any item to get Nazarick.. just a regular big ass dungeon that they conquered and redesigned afterwards
the saddes thing on overlord is that whole show will be unfinished bcs autor signed rly scamy contract so he even droped LN...
Damn okay! Thank you for explaining! Already feels like there are quite a few things that have been helpful in the comments 💯💯
"Yggdrasil" is the tree of life in Norse mythology
Oh okay!
17:30 "Isekai" just means Other World or Another World. It does not matter how one gets there, as long as they somehow end up there.
(Super strict!)
Ainz is quite cautious and takes the scepter to the arena to test its magic, because if it doesn't work he can tell that the scepter isn't working right and the NPCs won't find out that he is defenseless.
That's why the demon Demiurge is the guardian
The eighth floor is the most mysterious of all and we don't know much about it even in the novels.
I knew you'd be here, the overlord fanatic 😂
From where do you have the information about his old world though?
@@PhoenixBorn666 Yeah it actually could have been explained in the beginning of the novel.
I started where season 2 of the anime ended.
Congrats on starting your Overlord journey. I watched the original series of Overlord as an anime-only and enjoyed the experience a lot. I will comment more on the show premise itself in later episodes, but it is a show based on a light novel where knowing something about adaptations is particularly important. So here is some context:
Shows Like Dr.
Three examples I’ve actually read span across the spectrum:
No Game No Life: The anime may end with one of the biggest anime cliffhangers ever(an anime-only ending too) but the 3 novels it adapts leave almost 0 dialogue out, only a couple details of any real significance failed to make it into the show.
Um not really because Inuyasha and og Digimon exist. Those are some of the oldest isekais.
@@josephcrickmore53019 Did the MC die in Digimon and Inuyasha ?

Overlord has amazing premise and a good story with lots of interesting concepts to ponder. Where it falls short is the animation budget. Anime can be rough at times, but the narrative is good enough that it will carry you through such misgivings.

THE DAY IS HERE! Found your channel originally because of your Overlord openings reaction and have been waiting this ever since.
I remember giving a very detailed summary of this series that left out the Isekai aspect of the show when you first reacted to the openings.
Oh this is going to be fun.
Well, this show has been on my to watch list for a while now, so great to watch along for the first time with you.
This is the 1st anime that made me read the Light Novels AFTER I watched all seasons
There's so much to unpack between the lines
I bought the overlord soundtrack on vinyl, has the anime length opening/closing themes. Amazing record.
26:44 Nope :)
35:06 Dw, doujins make sure to give him a mighty bone :)
25:15 the tomb of nazarick is a player made dungeon so its massive dungeons in fantasy themed manga/anime dont always look like ruins or caves they can just have something that looks like outside inside or underground
He’s not in the game anymore, he’s in a complete another world, transported along with his npc characters.
You're in for some good times with Overlord. We also finally have that movie coming covering an arc they decided to skip over to get into season 4
Cant believe I missed this reaction right when I came out. I loved this anime ^^
To answer some of the questions:
It’s never said in the anime: Japan has massive air pollution and it’s in a cyberpunk corporate dystopia.
The twin elves are a brother and sister. But their creator liked having them dress in clothing opposite to their gender.
I came to say the same.
Could have atleast given him a longer skirt..
I get so jealous of new anime fans at times because you get to watch so many TOP TIER anime back to back without having to wait.
When I first watched the first episode it was like 10 PM, and then I finished season 1 and 2 in a day. I didn't sleep whatsoever lol.
21:00 HE JUST LIKE ME FR
finally, it is here. the first isekai ive seen to have a protagonist like this. makes for a very interesting story
This anime is what got me into this Chanel, I came wanting him to react to overlord and stayed for all the anime reactions lol
(totally not a nerd)
I dunno what else to say or add as non spoilery fun facts, so, just enjoy the Anime, is pretty good.
The only "perma death" is inflicted by world items, its very rare
@@-Apoptos- I see, thanks for correcting me 👍
Yes!! Welcome to Overlord! Man I enjoy watching you giving tons of questions the second a show starts😁
Probably the other word you are looking for is "Tensei" which means reincarnation. So Overlord is a Isekai fantasy anime, but not a Tensei one.
I've been waiting for this one. Love overlord so much.
I think that it's better that it doesn't explain anything. It makes you feel like you know as much as the MC. I hate it when the anime feels like it needs to explain everything right away. Also, if you think about it, the breast part is actually a genius idea. No one would implement R18 elements into this type of mmorpg officially.
LONG HAVE I WAITED FOR THE DAY OF YOUR REACTION TO OVERLORD!!
Oh my... FINALLY! I will be here for every step of this new journey
Finally overlord, LET'S GO !!!!!
ooost!!
man im so happy that i watched this show and now im even happier to see you have reacted to it :D
He really goes deep in the lore in both series, so I'm pretty sure you'll find them interesting.
like like like like appreciate ze effort
The highest rank they reached was 9, not top 5. Also guild ranking isnt a good indicator of their strength
Yes, finally it's so great to see you reacting to this!
Finalllyyyyyyy.... Been waiting ages for this one!!! Thank you for finally reacting to it
"They're both girls?" BUDDY NO NO NO DONT FALL
26:45 Trap concept
thats my favorite anime of all time. I am so happy you watch it
20:54 My god, hes more about science than dr.stone!
Overlord starts slow, but it becomes utterly amazing.
Gotta love how all the monstrous guardians look up to him.
The trio of sisters are stages of the philosophers stone
Um dos meus TOP 5 Isekais, Overlord é maravilhoso ❤ 😂🎉 e muito engraçado ❤🎉😂
"Is he trapet into a videogame?
that this even count as Isekai"
- Well, actually the first (or at least first to become popular) Isekai was about people traped in a videogame.
The concept of "isekai" means "traped in another world" the nature of that world could be absolutely anything.
Наконец то я дождался этого, Люк наконец то делает реакцию на Оверлорд!
Nothing takes more priority than watching this for me

-He HAD to do it.
-Made me want to watch this series (again).
It will be an honor to accompany you on this journey.

Finding yourself in world based on game (or the world a game is based on) is common occurrence, difference is wether u are a hero, villain, supporting character or total nobody. Some characters choose to live quietly, away from commotion, some choose to do whatever they want and some decide to help people they liked as NPCs.
Isekai Quartet is a good spread of showing how different characters get Isekaied:
Tanya: Dies and goes to an other world.
Kazuma dies and goes to another world dies, stays there, dies stays there
Ainz Ool Gown (aka spicy Skeletor): Doesnt die and goes to a different world
Subaru: Doesnt die and goes to a different world, dies, dies, dies, dies... dies... dies? Thats a lot of deaths.... Im sure that stops some time.... Oh he dies again.
Finally! Been waiting for the day this reaction arrived.

"Did the good guys lose?" Pretty much sums up this entire anime series.
Yggdrasil is the name of the world tree from Norse Mythology, and you've most likely seen something inspired by it before, since it's the inspiration for A LOT of stuff.
Almost anything that includes a gigantic magic tree, in fact.
Isekai just means another world. Usually people die and are reincarnated into that other world, but it's not a requirement.

I'm already seeing that and his little internal monologues 😂
Ainz isn't trapped in a game. the entire guild base and himself, get sent to another world. the game has nothing to do with it anymore to an extent.
SPOILER:
Only reason theres items from the game in this world is because of past players being transported to this world. The Dragon Emperor summoned the players from another reality into the new world because he was looking for powerful items and weapons across multiple universes
@@arc1only cut the spoiler or actually separate it from the rest of the text
@@-Apoptos- that was not a spoiler. episode 1 confirms that it's an isekai and not a trapped-in-a-game anime

Eu nem tinha assistindo cinco minutos de video quando pensei: Esse cara é o cara! hahahaha

Man i want him to react to cut content too its makes more depth to character and story may be end of every season how many of you like that idea
35:10 Well, Bone Daddy being a skeleton isn't packing ATM but being a high level mage with lots of magic items may have some work arounds.
this is one of the anime where dubs voice actor did an amazing job, highly suggested
