Hypolectrus ecosur Mexico Aug 11, 2004 Isla Contoy

I didn't realize it in 2004, but this Hamlet was an undescribed species when I shot this video. In 2012 Benjamin Victor published a description and gave it the species name "ecosur" - an acronym of El Colegio de la Frontera Sur in recognition of the pioneering work of the ichthyology group in marine ecology based at the Unidad Chetumal. As soon as I read his paper, I immediately remembered videotaping this fish. It was one of the last shots I ever took with my old Sony VX1000 standard definition video camera. I used Topaz Video AI to upscale the old video to 1080 for a bit better quality. This may still be the only underwater video of this species.
