Thank you. I was doing it wrong and was feeling it in my lower back because the weight was heading close to my knees. This changed the game for me and instantly felt it in my glutes
Came back 5 years later to say that this still slaps… 3 years of kb swings later (from single 12kg at start to double 24kg) and this is still one of the best explainers for newbies. Thanks for this! 👊🏾🧔🏾♂️
Out of every video and written guide i have seen (trust me, i have gone through alot) this video is an absolute master class in showing the form. Before, my lower back was sore after working, but after applying his tech with the arm and the push motion of the hips, not the snap that other guides talk about, my back had not even an iota of any work done on it. Positivley brillant, and i thank the search results that brought me here. You deserve much more.
Thank you for clearing up the form. This is written in a program I have started and I haven’t done it because I’ve been nervous about messing up the form. This was so informative.
It's my opinion (and I'm just an old turkey with no credentials), that if your KB is too light you;ll never achieve proper form. Question: What further lower body workout do you need, if you are using the proper weight KB for your strength? Bonus material: I've watched a lot of KB videos and I don't remember ever hearing the word "goal/goals". If you get competent doing a movement with a certain weight, get a heavier KB, if that's what you want. The increments are 2 or 4 kg, which means you have to cut down on reps until your fitness adapts to the new weight.
Heavy weights are instructional. You’ll learn your issues and weak techniques quickly by going up 4kilos! 😅 I treat my kbs like they’re my older cousins… great to wrestle with, but they’ll put me in my place (or in hospital) if I get too out of line. 😂
I'm about to buy my first kettlebell, and I'm so glad this video popped up on my screen. I'm going to be 53 in August, have had a hip replacement two years ago, and have been working out since 1980. I NEVER LISTEN to people who don't have some kind of education, have a world of experience, or someone who isn't pushing a product. It's worked out well for me over the years. So thanks for this video. Wish me luck!!
I got my kettlebell in the mail yesterday and tried these for the first time, bending my knees way too much. Gonna try it the correct way now. Thank you! :)
I did a routine today. First kettlebell workout. First rep, I said I’m doing this wrong. Feeling it in my lower back and not in a good way. Thanks for explaining this
As a former PFT, this video is absolutely excellent and i wish id had it to show clients when inwas training. Great communication and verbal relatability.
I have a long torso, this video helped my swing a lot. Keeping the bell closer by using my lats to "brake" the system actually helped take a lot of stress off of my lower back.
Good video. I injured my back with a 24kg kettlebell doing one handed swings in early 2018 I have almost recovered and have just got back into it. If only I would have known
For now, your video is by far better then others I have about kettlebell swing. Among other things you seem to properly address the most important question injury-safest gyrevoi practice. The others I know of failed to clearly determine the basic safety factors. People do not understand that not everyone is 20 years old nor the spine is in perfect condition in every individual. Youngsters who don't feeli much of the problem NOW by making feeble or imprecise moves with kettlebells don't think about consequences that arrive much later. Also you pinpointed the latissimus dorsi and gluteus maximus as working muscles vs hip flexors, pectoralis, arm and shoulder muscles, hip and knees as keeping the later at minimum activity. By doing so, of which your audience is mostly not aware, you are offering the sound healthy practice of recreation instead of sport malpractice. So, extremely good job, thanks for sharing your thoughts and practices. 👌
Thank you so much for this. I kept getting bad lower back pains wondering why. I’ve been so used to squat type workouts that I’ve been squatting while doing these thinking that bending at the hip instead of at the knee would be worse. Turns out that’s the proper technique.
I tried kettlebell swings like 4 years ago doing it completely wrong and you're right it messed up my lower back. Going to try to get back into it and this time I'm gonna follow your tips and do it properly 😉
Thank you brother for this video, very beneficial to me , I ditch the Barbell and loving the kettle bell, Saw great improvement in my strength, toning up, more endurance and stamina in my long distance running on the road at the age of 50 , feeling fantastic and looking fabulous
This am I did swings the way you did them/taught here and for the first time when I finished 3 sets of 30 sec I actually felt it in my glutes and lats more than my lower back. Thanks brotha! Do you have any posts on doing a kb over head press?
I did crossfit some after high-school and this was useful because we didn't always do overhead, but they almost always used the squat. The way you explained it helped me see there are probably better ways to get my squats in.
Thank you soo much for the video guys, I was doing it wrong and my lower back was hurting alot ! first i thought it builds your lower muscle too but when the pain increased alot then i thought i am making a mistake and i landed here ❤️
I have been doing some lifting, for less than a year, based on these two videos below and it made a huge difference on my cycling. I also, will add kettlebell swings very soon... ua-cam.com/video/XweE8wFI0G0/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/V88wwTCs680/v-deo.html
Thank you thank you thank you for this-such a great explanation of what and what not to do without being a lengthy video. Just tried it out and the burn is reeealllll, and no back pain!
My first day of doing swings I found that my back was sore all day. Two pieces of advice you give helped me find immediate relief. 1st is is not a squat swing. I was doing just that. 2nd bring it into your core (crotch and legs) and push out with your glutes. Big help.
I’m a newbie who just started bell swings with my new Bowflex a few days ago. After a set of only 15 to 20, my heart is absolutely racing. I don’t even feel near that winded after 25 or 30 minutes on my Concept 2 rower! Muscles don’t feel fatigued or tired from lifting, as it feels like an easy workout otherwise. I guess swings are good at exposing an out of shape cardiovascular system - and hopefully will also help remedy that eventually.
I appreciate this video a lot. Significantly more effective than other ways I have been taught. This also prevents my back issues from flaring up at all. I’ll buy you a beer if I run into one day. Been sharing this video with friends too. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this, I just started last week and I’ve been doing it wrong….did it along with this video and my buns are burning for the first time lollll
Love this explanation. Thank you for your detailed description of why we want to keep the kettle bell close to our center of mass. So many tutorials say don’t do the squat, but they don’t explain why. I had to watch 4 other videos before finding yours to find the answer as to WHY using the squat is bad.
oh boy have I done these wrong. Thanks for teaching. I fortunately have only done it wrong once, but the strain is exactly in that lower back as you described....
ive done a lot of work to strengthen my glutes hams and low back muscles over the years and just incorporated swings. I can get away with a bit of a squat and have things feel really good and natural still but I will try this advice next time thanks.
I think both hinged and the squat versions are valid depending on what you want to target. If I want to train all three, glutes, lower back, and quads (don't like spending time on deadlifts and squats), I'd do the squat version and if I wanted to focus on primarily glutes and explosiveness, I'd go for the hinged version.
Works really good and the price is good compared to Target and Walmart. I don’t have any quality issues. It works as designed for me. I would recommend it.
Both of you looks fit. I don’t wanna get bigger guy anymore cause of my back injury. I decided to fit guy just like these guys. I just going to Kettlebell swing now.
5 years already, and Cory's explanation is still among the best, if not THE best, instruction on kb swings.
the only tutorial I follow..
Thank you. I was doing it wrong and was feeling it in my lower back because the weight was heading close to my knees. This changed the game for me and instantly felt it in my glutes
Same. This did wonders for me.
Same. My lower back is jacked up from doing swings yesterday. I knew it had to be my technique
@@htxflow Sitting in bed with a jacked up lower back right now hahaha. Can't wait to switch this up tomorrow.
This guy has great dynamic! He explains the exercise with passion so I can't wait to try it tomorrow.
Did you do it tomorrow? How did it go?
Glad I saw this video, I was doing them the wrong way. 😓
Me too
Same🤪👈
Same here! My back hurt back then and I didn't know why. Now, I know. The kettlebell went too much towards my knees.
Me to. My back hurts from doing it last night. I thought that was normal. Now I know.
Same
Best explanation on You Tube. Detailed explanation without over explaining like a lot of the videos out there do. Thank You !!!
You just fixed my swing thank you brother! Doing 10k swings... Was getting back pain at higher repetitions - now I know why! Appreciate it 🤜
Bro🤯, 10k swings a day?
@@michaelharris4443 guessing a month 333 a day? Or 500 a day 5 days a week
10kilo kettle swings?

You are one Bright Cookie! After your tutorial, I did not need to search for anymore kettlebell swing instructions. Thank you
Been doing these all wrong, glad I found this video!!
This is the most complete and best explanation I've found on KB swings. Thanks!
Had so many people try to explain this to me, this is the best I've come across.
I've never seen it explained so well before. Thanks
Thank you for clearing up the form. This is written in a program I have started and I haven’t done it because I’ve been nervous about messing up the form. This was so informative.
By far one the best KB swing tuts I’ve ever seen -
Great movement for warming up your hips with lighter weight before lower body workouts also.

Thank you for this video Cory! I’m about to start the 50 kettle bell swings a day for the month of June for St Jude’s children’s hospital! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
At 52 I started doing 100 swings a day and in a week I felt very good in daily life, with stronger core.

Thank you!! I was feeling in my back so much and I just knew I wasn’t in the right form. The work I was going with did not describe it
Oh. I just started doing kettlebell swings and I noticed I've been using my knees more the further I got. Thanks!
That video save my back. From today no heavy swing but every day 20 reps with light kb to learn using only hips. Thanks a lot
Thank you for explaining and demonstrating the proper kettle bell swing technique.

Fantastic, Cory! Fixed my posture. Many thanks from the UK.

Really glad I saw this. If you search Pavel demonstrating it, he's doing it in a intensely back shearing way.
Hand down the best tutorial I could find, well done sir!
All I can say is a BIG THANK YOU !!!! I just bought 16kgs and I dare not try a swing it until I did my UA-cam research

Thank you. One of the most informative video on kettlebell swing. 👍🏻
Great video, quick and to the point. Everything I needed to know as a beginner to start off with right form. 👍🏼. Thank you
Thank you for this gents. I Strained my patella ligament so needed a non-knee cardio workout. I’ll be dong this + battle ropes
Holy crap!!! I see everybody at the gym doing it with the arms fully extended and letting it drop alllll the way back with the stress on the back.
It's OK to load the back. This message is not correct. And the nature of swing means there is little load anywhere mid swing.
Guy Edwards correct, the Pavel method is the best. The swing is supposed to help strengthen the lower back as well. Hip strength is key to longevity.
Thanks I was getting so much back stress and I quit for awhile. I’ll try this
How was it?
Wish I saw this before I hurt my shoulder/back, this is an excellent and thorough video thank you so much for this! Excellent teacher
