    I knew that LU used trip cocks as a safety feature; but it was interesting to see how it was configured on a mainline loco to allow operation on the LU network. Another great video.

    The LEDs do actually flash in real life, just faster than our eyes can tell so they appear on. It's how LEDs are dimmed. The camera's framerate is sometimes fast enough that it alternately sees the "on" or "off" states for the LED

    I find your videos fascinating Brian , my Grandad used to be a blacksmith/boilersmith turned mechanical engineer at Derby works between the 50's until he retired in 1990 and he told wonderful tales of the railways , his favourite diesel was the class 56 and said they were awkward to work on but the big V16 was a near perfect engine and they onced tweaked one to just over 4000 bhp at Derby back in the late 80's , sadly he has long passed away as Derby loco works mostly has , he would have liked the class 70 though.

    Fascinating stuff. Suspect that football VAR people could take a lesson or two from the way shunting gròundstaff communicate with drivers 😂

    0:04 Ah, so real trains _do_ use magnets between the tracks to uncouple, after all!

    Your statement about the GE motor is historically correct because when the class 66 engines were purchased it was a GE motor but now the EMD division was actually purchased by Caterpillar.

    Hi Brian, I was filming at Crewe last week, I was looking north from south end of the platform, and up the line I thought I saw a few 90s coming through, I got all excited thinking i was going to film a pass, then they disappeared!
    The same happened the previous week, I thought I'd seen a DB 66 on its way through, that vanished too!
    Just looking on Google Earth, I've spotted a tunnel, that looks like it goes into Basford and beyond... Is that correct? Thanks. 👍🏻🚂

    around 12:22 walking past the bogie there's a long bar and some kind of chain attached to it, what's that for?

    Do you think you could operate the Irish rail class 201 as they have the same GM EMD engine as the 66?

    if i fill my truck up in uk it costs me £7600 to put in 2000 litres of diesel but i only fill up in spain as it costs less at £3800

    So, here's a question then for you Brian. That 66 with the full tank 6000+ litres that's cost £6k to fuel. How far would that loco travel on that fuel load?

    • @Traindriverbrian1
      @Traindriverbrian1  9 місяців тому +1

      800-1000 miles on average

    What would happen if a shunter ( god forbid ) had an accident whilst speaking to the driver who is in the wrong cab for shunting that train, should a driver, drive from the cab in which the locomotive is moving,

    • @Traindriverbrian1
      @Traindriverbrian1  9 місяців тому +1

      A driver can’t be in the wrong cab because you can’t see where you’re going when shunting So you rely on the Shunters radio. Anytime communication is lost you stop instantly.
