Like he shouldve in the first place, watching his campaign was so maddening because he made so many mistakes
One of the top quotes from this steam,... "I'll overwatch in case anyone tries to expose themselves". I'm sure you will Jon, I'm sure you will.
I feel like impossible ironman probably wasn't the best choice for somebody who hasn't yet figured out that overwatch gives you a reaction shot. They're the same thing Jon, it's a shot that is a reaction to a thing, overwatch is just the most common way to get a reaction shot
Lets paint all the armor bright unique colors. That way we can better identify the mangled corpses

Victor Perez Jr I am under the impression that Jon did this to get the "canon ending" and then move on to X-com 2 properly.
But the canon ending is losing the base defense...
It isn't, the canon ending is simply an early loss. In XCOM 2 it implies that XCOM originally fell before they even made the first skeleton suits.

Hey jon if you play this again which i hope you will, try to split your team into two groups.1 person just for vision baiting and hunkering down, the rest of them flanking. Hope this will help,
I am so happy watching this.
I love Jon, but one thing I notice with him and Xcom, is that his ideas of how the actions work and the best order to use them in is quite inept. Overwatch = less accurate shots, overwatching as the first action in a turn is really wasteful and leaves that soldier with less ammo, switching between soldiers and seeing what items(ie. grenades) are available or not. Killing the Sectoid that STARTS the mind control/psionic power up kills the alien linked or ends the mind control, Jon 'knows' this but still doesn't go for that double kill when it would work. Also, in terms of percentages with hit chances, the game just outright lies to you, not sure if this is factually true or not but it feels appropriate.
The reason I mention these, is because it'll help Jon if he decides to play Xcom 2.
on normal difficulty 1 has an accurate hit chance displayed, but on 2 its just a complete lie
I think also, people brains just don't naturally 'get' probability very well, so it might feel wrong even if it's not (also randomness is... random)
Xcom 2 when?
I would believe that the canon ending of XCOM would be when loosing a specific mission from Enemy Within, not just loosing the trust of the council

I was half way between tears and furious swearing thanks to a horrid week and then this stream happened and I was captivated by the most inept defence of earth possible and I laughed like a mad woman.

As someone who suffered through Jon somehow winning the campaign this looks far more promising

in all seriousness though, i do hope we see Jon return to a full playthrough of Enemy within, even as a semi-regular livestream so we can have chat characters be the big-damn heroes at the end

well, this went exactly as expected...
Bit of a shame that Jon never got to witness the terror that is the Fishing Village quest. Or discovered how badly the 'French' had betrayed them for some kind of Exalted madness. Nor did he see those new aliens that like to get up close and personal without actually being seen.
gorutsuki o god not the fishing village, still haunts me too this day. Granted I only played xcom the first time a few weeks ago, but still fuck the fishing village.
I hate that village more than anything from XCOM 2...
weerribben47 i managed to complete it but sadly the chrysalids are too many so i had to order one MEC and one soldier to hold them off so the others could escape and a badass moment when the missile strike went off and they are still there...........
You two will be remembered as a hero! (btw my squad had six men and the one soldier was a rookie, see! Xcom EU/EW rookies were badass!)
Quite proud of my 0 casualty fishing village run where only my MEC even got injured (albeit on a second playthrough, on easy, on an abnormally lucky playthrough in general)

As bad as XCOM:EU/EW rookies are, they're hardened killing machines compared to the XCOM 2 rookies. *I* can, myself, shoot more accurately than XCOM 2 rookies, and I haven't fired a gun in years.

I recently got xcom 2 due to it being free on ps+ and I had three rookies miss a shot that had a 92% chance to miss on a target standing in the open
Thing is, in XCOM EU/EW they're soldiers conscripted from various nation's armies. In XCOM 2 they're just random rebels and outcasts you pick up and give a gun to. Then play Long War 2. I swear on that the average shot hit chance is about 18%...
Thankfully the enemy also has crappy hit chances in Long War 2...
ZubjectX i guess it make sense that xcom EW/EU soldiers are better considering they are elite soldiers from numerous country

Great stream! Nice to see I didn't miss much before I arrived. Hope you give this another shot sometime, though you really should do it on Classic instead of Impossible.

This was the best thing to watch (listen to) while spending the entire day driving around taking a friend all around town for interviews. Kept me giggling the entire time.
4 years late to catching this stream, but I feel attacked... In my current XCOM 2 playthrough my sniper has a backwards baseball cap 🙃 it stops their neck getting sunburnt on those hot overwatch sessions

I can't be too hard on you, you gave a valiant effort and I recall how "well" my first time playing on impossible went - sectoids bum rushed me at the pizza parlor and team wiped me. Good effort, wouldn't mind seeing you try again on classic or even normal difficulty
Man, I wish this had been a series instead. I generally dislike watching livestreams. But, oh well! At least we have the EU series :D I have already watched that one 2-3 times xD

Jon if possible, at sometime in the future, even if its way out (cause there are all the new games now like 76 and RDR2 along with all of your backed up projects it could be a while), could you do a "normal" runethrough of within, it adds a LOAD more content, and is really fun

Impossible's primary difficulty issue: your to hit is actually like 15% below what it says, and theirs is like 25% better.
