What I've done in the past is after the buyer buys the item I send them a message to confirm that they read the title and the item is for parts only. I also tell the buyer I will not ship until they confirm this message
Sometimes a buyer will rub you the wrong way and you will go all the way with it. I have been there, d-bags are everywhere and seem to think they will screw over a seller
I am so glad you addressed this, love this video. I think you did the absolutely right thing, and it's good you did the video to make others aware of what can happen. Been selling on ebay for 22 yrs. and in October of this yr. our area in Florida got hit with 7 tornadoes and hurricane Milton. As soon as the power went down I refunded every sale I had immediately, since we had no power or post office open. Ebay put 7 defects on my acct. because they said I checked "out of stock" which I did not. I fought for 3 weeks to get them to take off these defects, making appeals, calling every day, all of the reps said they should be taken off but no one was doing this. Then several negative feedbacks I fought for also, to be taken off due to circumstances beyond my control. I have always been a top rated seller, and those defects they added would have dropped me to above standard. It took over 3 weeks of fighting but finally they took them off. I can only imagine how frustrated you were since you did everything you should have to ensure they knew what they were purchasing. Ebay should take off that negative too, not right. But like many say, they tend to be for the buyer, and tend not to back up the seller.
There you go people...eBay is window dressing entirely. The customer service people are babysitters without any power to do much of anything. If they tell you it's being escalated? it means its going to the ebay supercomputer to be batted down and leaving YOU to eat the losses. The elites who own eBay are on yachts in the Mediterranean Sea. The only thing they care about is the MATH. Their entire back-end is a math equation with lipstick. Nobody cares about the people involved here. The sellers are the doorstops, sheep and mules. You should be bowing down to make 50 cents on your dollar because of their skills.
I just had a buyer like yours. Block'em, go on with your Ebay selling and know you are not the only seller that gets the shaft once in a while. You're not alone. Love your videos!!
Great points, man. Unfortunately, this will keep happening since those buyers who are also sellers try to always outsmart the system by trying to prove they are always right even though they perfectly know what they did. What goes around comes around to those types of people or buyers.
What's wrong is wrong and what's right is right. This buyer was wrong. What I generally do is remind them that the next time something bad happens to them that they remember this sale that you wronged me on and what you just experienced is karma. I wouldn't refund this guy nothing and in fact I would challenge eBay to remove it under their guidelines. You clearly had it in the title and the category as "for parts or repair". Which they will honor and always have for me. Specially if it's stated that it was NOT tested. The last rep I spoke to told me because I said that it wasn't tested. I was saved and fell under their guidelines to remove the feedback. Lastly, hope you had a great Thanks Giving!
New subscriber !! It always amazes me when a customer asked me a question that’s either in the title or the very start of the description. I don’t understand it. If I’m going to buy some thing I’m going to look at the pictures and I’m going to read the entire description. If I were to be dumb enough to not do this I certainly wouldn’t approach the seller because I made a mistake I would just eat it because I’m the idiot that didn’t read the description or look at the pictures. Luckily I haven’t had to deal with what you have I’ve just dealt with stupid questions. I’m a very part-time seller though and I’m sure that’s why. I also sell mainly costume jewelry , watches , and other small items. Even on some of my expensive things I’ve never had an issue but oh I get tired of the stupid questions that are in the description and or title I think you handled it great . Hopefully Ebay will remove the feedback because that is totally unfair when they told you that you were not in the wrong in the beginning I don’t understand how they allow this guy to do this in the end. Really stupid.
Yeah spot on. By the way I feel that when you get to message the "back office team" about feedback removal, they listen more to you and help you more, than for example the the chat, facebook or calling, even if you get an american rep. The "back office team" is where I have had most of my unfair feedbacks removed, just write to them that you are puting your whole life into eBay, blood sweat and tears, and that the feedback is so unfair and destroys your business - and they will remove it. I don't think there is even one time when they haven't helped me (with unfair feedback and other stuff), maybe its just me?
Also know this, EBay while telling us for all that, then presents a listing page which HIDES much of the information. This is entirely the case with mobile. Most people are using their phones now not a static pc at home. It is also why the AI descriptions are little more than a rehash of your item descriptions (even harder to find on mobile). ALWAYS Include THE AI DESCRIPTION people. Making sure in the item specifics under say theme or character you are restating the item is FOR PARTS ONLY. Even repeating the fact the item is USED is a plus. Heck fill in every empty box with for-parts.
Thanks for this information. This keeps other honest sellers on the loop. Keep doing these videos. Sooner or later we all will deal with someone like this.
Dealing with a guy in Germany who is being totally unrealistic. He wants a full refund plus the import taxes he payed. Makes me not want to ship internationally.
Sorry but sounds like you gunna pay this one. If you sold and his money processed on a legit sale to Germany? and you now refuse to ship? guess who ebay is siding with?
Am I mistaken or didn’t eBay come out a couple weeks ago with a notice that more feedback is going to be removed because it’s not going be reviewed by AI but by a person? I know someone had a similar experience where the buyer didn’t read and was asking for a service not included in the listing and left a negative, and it wasn’t removed by the tool.
being on ebay for the last 6 years now. this past year has been the worst for potential buyer scamming and negative feedback left when they dont get their way. getting a little out of hand
Walmart and AMZ is why. Their scale allows for the free shipping and no questions asked free returns. Everybody else is screwed now. I hesitate even doing my own garage sale because is suspect a few of these people will trickle back to my house for a refund in person. Whenever they feel the need. To say nothing of the wonderful opportunity these sales afford burglars etc. to case your home.
You should not have responded to their comment if you are going to ask for it to be removed. Thats more than likely whats making the removal more difficult.
I'm starting to think selling stuff for parts is more hassle than it's worth. I just took something down because it was ruining my sell through rate and my store is not getting traffic for four days now. Apparently $25 free shipping on a 4 pound item was too much for them to pay. I'm just going to throw it away. Now I have to mend my store over a $4 potential profit.
This is great content bc we can all relate to this fraudulent behavior. I also accept returns but I feel like I always wind up paying for return shipping bc some people can easily lie to avoid the fee so it's a lose lose sometimes.
Back in the dinosaur days I collected stamps. Back then the dealers would mail you a small catalog of their inventory for you to look over and buy what you wanted and return the rest in the prepaid return envelope with a check for the stamps you kept. Sans of course the real valuable stuff. But the point is this...many buyers today operate as if this is the model now. Since we have no physical stores, they assume it's all "on approval" (that is the name of this selling setup). This is why they expect free shipping and free no strings attached free returns. I can also assure you they expect return packaging as well with a label already attached. If those standards are not met these zombies are trained by Amz/WM to beat-up the competition. They could careless if you are a single-mother with 2 kids trying to pay the rent of a cockroach infested apartment next to the Interstate. They want their butts kissed and their status of being better than some scummy ebay seller affirmed. For you must be that as you cannot even do what stupid Wally World does.
So glad your appeal worked. I have also appealed on one occasion and it worked. Gives me more faith in eBay. The guy was a real jerk. He couldn’t admit he was wrong. Karma does work, I think. Think positive. Usually, gets positive outcomes. Happy Holidays!❤
Number one rule of Fight Club, if you are not mirroring the exp of the amazonian jungle while selling online you WILL attract push-back from dumb spoiled buyers. Buyers who literally are compelled to beat people over the head who do not conform to the jungle. One should also be warned that despite appearances (their policies they really don't follow themselves) eBay will not hesitate to beat you up or leave you swinging in the wind holding all the risk. Not kidding here. Buyers have no interest in reading our descriptions. specifics, or even looking closely at our wonderful pictures. If you believe otherwise you need to put the eBay BS pipe down. These are the dangers of selling anything even remotely not GEM MInt 10 to these entitles little babies online. KISS should be one's overriding mentality when selling on this silly platform. 1-2-3 maybe 10 pictures and call it a day. Titles devoid of anything these people are not looking for (ever). Ebay does not care if you put MWT or VTG in a title and nobody else does either. You are simply shooting yourself in the head and setting up a troll for a beatdown. Harsh but so is this game being played. It is bad enough we have to waste our precious life selling the garbage we do for peanuts. To then think we need to cater to clowns is beyond the line. Shoot for an AMZ level experience and move on folks.
I get fed up with the buyer that alway want to return and it not free so the seller loses the money and item from bad buyer and then we get lost item in post as well it really hard to make a profit and then you get buyers like that that want money as well .
I was told early on that once I respond to a feedback, it cannot be removed, so I will try to get it removed first before responding only if I can't get it removed. It may be different now. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving
You have to be careful what offers you accept and check how recent their feedbacks is some resellers use dummy accounts to purchase items and do fraudulent returns or shakedowns to resell the items on their main accounts
Yep...the one caveat to this is items usually under $100 where eBays pc can verify a tracking delivery happened. We win those every time. However if it's over $100 it goes thru more filters of machine and its never a slamdunk.
I had a problem with this type of thing long ago because people on their phones do not scroll to the end of the title. I sell EMPTY cases for video games and always got "The case I got was empty and there was no game disc" when it clearly says at the end of the listing NO GAME. So now the first 2 words of the title is **NO GAME** and the last words are CASE ONLY and I haven't had too many idiots after that. WAY too many scammers out there that eBay will not help us with. Because we all know eBay HATES US and will not side with sellers!
I honestly hope karma catches this person soon. Also, not knowing his tone but taking just from context, his apology sound more sarcastic then anything. I'm sorry you had to deal with a buyer, which unfortunately is also a seller, like this one John.
Selling "for parts" is not be worth the hassle. I have been there myself. Even if it is "for parts" it feels like 8 out of 10 still don't understand that the item might be/is broken - because they don't read ANYTHING in the description, sometimes not even the title. They only see the main picture and buy, like a brainless NPC - that is how stupid people are. You truly loose faith in humanity right. It must really suck to get a headache, and a negative because of a $50 item... I feel bad for you man. How about considering to stop selling these kind of items? Because it attracts trash people. Since I personally changed to only higher priced popular "premium items" (I know easier said than done but...), anyway I have ran into way less idiots.
jon we can all relate to this and yes great for content but as you say you did nothing wrong and its just another fine example of buyers dont read even if that buyer is also a seller that probably complains about buyers not reading
You’re way to nice John. An eBay seller tried this crap on a buddy of mine. He waited 6/7 months till it was all forgotten, got a bunch of other friends to buy stuff from the guy, and struck with an all out assault of Returns and Negative Feedbacks. Gave him a taste of his own medicine to the point where the guy stopped selling on that account. Prob stopped and created a new account. Sometimes two wrongs DO make a right. Happy holidays.
Were all sellers on Ebay to respond to this situation as you did I am quite sure this practice by buyers would be far less. However, there is a trade-off in time spent. What I do is just message the buyer "I honor all returns for refund". I do not give partial refunds. As you say this makes good channel content. Yes. But I am sure we all know that the time spent, applied to making more listings, would more than make up for the cost of refund on one item. Buyers are conditioned to having their way - As evidence, in my last video I made a large purchase (for me) buying 3 gaylords of mostly home depot returns. I think it safe to say that all large retailers just accept returns without the steps you did here.
An advice is to sell collectibles (easier said than done), vintage items. Almost no one that searches for a niche rare old collectible, is a bad person. I sell rare old video game stuff, i only get 2-3 nightmare buyers a year. To sell cheap for parts items seems to summon all kind of id"ots out there. Because they want stuff as cheap as possible they easily become compaining troublemakers... I have seen buyers wanting to return a $10 item and causing a big drama because of it... But anyway I feel bad for you man that you seem to run into so many stupid people recently 😡
Jon, if you reply to the feedback, eBay sees that as you accept it and will not remove it. Per our email my issue I am not responding to the feedback until the case they opened has been appealed and if they will remove feedback.
This buyer was wrong, it was his mistake (sorry it happened to you), but what I see as a buyer when I read your feedback. My main shopping goal is as less trouble as possible. If a seller has a few negative with long replies to them what does it tell me as a buyer? 1. Ebay did not remove the negatives - must be on the buyers' side. 2. The seller is rather argue than communicate (no time to read all written), 3. I rather pay more for the same product from a seller with100% positive. I think some ebay sellers depreciate the importance of feedback.
If we sellers could leave HONEST feedback, much of these crummy buyer “tries” would be stopped. I will always say that bowing to the rotten buyers on this, and the postage fee due to lousy sellers are 2 of eBay’s major mistakes. Plus not removing this idiots negative feedback - even with you having a yt channel - well, they seem to thrive on getting a bad user experience! I will NEVER understand eBay’s marketing plan.
the profit you made over source cost i would just refunded 20 dollars to avoid further hassle of chasing down eBay over neg feed back removal. Reviewing completed sold listings several of these as recent as a half month back.. of similar lock / brand / Wi-Fi has sold for $70 working in like new but used condition with free return shipping. Comparing what he received to brand new was kind of moot IMHO. But had you showed him used working prices would have juse made him look even more like a total dummy for even buying this. But yes dude was trying to change the terms after the sale regardless of reason but some times people make mistakes and some times they are trying to take you. This doesn't happen to often for me .... plus like you building in margin for shipping and fees i build in margin across items to cover stuff like this. That's why think with your 500 percent mark up; if this doesn't happen to often .. i would just let it ride.... Well unless i had a UA-cam channel i needed to make content for. But again yes Buyer was trying to take you or made a mistake or should have done research. But kudos to you for sticking your guns.
The buyer's name is actually one of the screenshots we can just call them snow fraud.. there's probably something wrong with half of the people that live in California anyways, I see extremely large declines in Morality these days...??.. living out here am running to it on a regular basis, along with a perverse of amount of paranoia...Laxvespa--LosAngeles
the buyer is a seller? I love these types of cases... I'm petty, but I would (and have done so in the past) buy an item from the scam buyer's store and then email him and say "I didn't realize you sold on ebay as well... I just wanted to support your store". and when I have done this to legit scam buyers, who are also sellers, the feedback would either mysteriously disappear or the buyer would fear retribution feedback and cancel my order leaving themselves open to a legit negative feedback. In some cases when I was already blocked from buying from the scammer, I would go and buy something from their store from my buying ebay account where I don't sell anything and buy one of their items and I end up leaving a neg stating "horrible buying experience"... which is worded where ebay will not take it down... I know it's petty, and I know many of your viewers will think this is wrong, but I ONLY have done this on a few LEGIT bad buyer, scam buyers or fraud cases that ebay chooses to ignore. Sometimes ebay's lack of seller support in blatant fraud/scam buyer issues will push buyers to fight dirty when they are in the right.
Tell him to buy a new one from Home Depot, take out the charger, and return the item without the charger to Home Depot. Better yet, tell him to keep the new one and return the used one. Completely entitled buyer, wants to get his way even when he's wrong.
I love your channel but I personally think if you were only responding to the customer for content and you wouldn’t have otherwise responded, it’s a waste of time. I know content creation isn’t easy but I think you can get more creative with your content ideas.
What I've done in the past is after the buyer buys the item I send them a message to confirm that they read the title and the item is for parts only. I also tell the buyer I will not ship until they confirm this message

I only respond to buyer messages thru the cases I’ve avoided a lot of returns running the clock and just ignoring messages that’s just my opinion
Happy Thanksgiving !! 😊
@@jonm4802 I won my appeal and it has been removed.
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving.
Hope Ebay get better
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
Buyers are stupid and don't read I would before shipping send them a message and state the obvious.
Happy Thanksgiving. You mean there are bad buyers??? Tell me it's not so
Tell him to buy a new one from Home Depot, take out the charger, and return the item without the charger to Home Depot.
A bith harsh dude, give Jon a beak. Peace to you!
If he's a seller, his account should be suspended for a month for being an A$$ Post his ebay name! I need to do some black Friday shopping.
