My previous unit was the JL Cooper MSB 16/20, which was a great device that served me well for almost 2 decades. When it started to have issues freezing up, I knew I had to replace it quickly, so I did. Since companies don’t make large 16/20 5 pin DIN port MIDI patchbays like that anymore, my next solution had to be different and the MIDI Express XT checked all the boxes and then some. I wanted to share this information with anyone interested and hope it serves useful.
Great video, thanks for the presentation. I use a Mio10, but I always want to know about more options if I decide to move on from this piece. (especially since at least 2 sets of I/O are dead on mine)

Thank you Again for any info regarding this Item..!!
Very nice video! I’m looking for a DAWless setup and have a question: would it be possible to create MIDI routing presets using a computer, save those and then change in between those with a MIDI controllers note messages using no computer? My intention would be to set up routing matching each unique song and then when playing live be able to switch between them for each song. Best regards!
4:53 You say all 3 are connected together, but the picture shows the top 2 connected to each other on the front, and the bottom one is connected to something else? How do you have the 3rd one connected so you can patch from unit 1 or 2 to unit 3?
That was a very good presentation on the Express XT’s feature set. Sadly, you didn’t really go very far into how or why you use it. I was hoping to hear about your specific setup and why it works for you.
For more information on the topics you mentioned, check out my presentations “Audio & MIDI Patchbays: Why I Use Them”, and “Home Studio Tactics: Using MIDI Controllers & MIDI Patchbays” on this channel. Thanks for watching.
Have you tried the SMPTE with a Tascam DP24-SD / DP32-SD? My current solution only has one MIDI in and three out so this looks like a massive upgrade - if it’s works!
Using a MIDI sync box and SMPTE , virtually any recorder can invoke transport commands. This one is no different. For more information watch my presentation "Tascam DP24/DP32 SD Digital Portastudio: SYNC to MIDI (No Hardware Required)", on this channel.
@@PowercoatMusic I have the Tascam DP32SD and want to stripe a track to control in real time my Akai MPC Key61 workstation. I do not want to start from the beginning of the track each time to sync the Akai and the Tascam. Will this unit write ( or stripe ) Smpte code on the Tascam so the Akai will pick up any location of the track and still be in sync with the Tascam. If I jog 10 seconds ( rewind / fast-forward ) on the Tascam I want the Akai MPC to resync to the new Jogged Location. Thanks for all you do here !!! If this unit will not do this ... What should I be looking for to make this happen... Thanks Again for any help.

The answer to you question is "Yes". You can program presets from your PC to this device and trigger them using a foot pedal. Thanks for watching.

A very well considered video, thank you. Can I ask, what powered USB hub have you settled on?
I purchased model from Amazon called "Enter" ($29.99). You can get them a lot cheaper than that. Thanks for watching.

can it be accessed via iPad app or browser ?
I don't know. My best suggestion would be to check out MOTU's website for any new software or updates. Thanks for watching.
