These cats were staying in a hotel for the weekend. They did not travel straight from a four hour drive to the grooming salon. At the end of this video, I explained that the cats were too stressed for grooming, and they were sent home. I could not remove the shirts because they wouldn't allow me to get close enough. After the owners came to pick-up, they realized their mistakes and apologized. They agreed that the shirts, one carrier, and the new environment was too overwhelming for them. The owners removed their shirts, and allowed them to decompress in my backyard. After a little bit of time, with their help, I was able to brush them and clip their nails. This video was too short, and there were no quiet breaks for me to place a voiceover with an explanation. The reason I ask you don't judge the owners, is because we can't do better until we know better. This was a learning experience for everyone. Calling them "mean" or "angry" is just my way of joking around. If we don't make light of stressful situations, we may not handle them well. This video was made to show the public when it's right to say no and send home.

"The reason I ask you don't judge the owners, is because we can't do better until we know better." then it is on u to provide that information when its absolutely necessary. its good of you to do so at least now. as u said, the video is short and people have barely anything BUT the distress of the cats to go on. people arent necessarily judging the owners as a whole, but this entire ordeal n how it was handled, which is all very valid. i repeat myself, but you showed us a spade, so we called it a spade. it is also important to take into consideration that ur demeanour played its part on how the cats are able to read the situation n environment, and a calmer approach mightve benefited the cats. i hope u do take an open minded approach to reading some of the comments that people have put a lot of effort on educating further. i hope the owners also understand that the cats could be traumatised and associate each other with all this trauma, too. the tone of this video is upsetting, regardless. the cats did not deserve to go through any of this, for a groom they did not need. i personally dont feel like ur statement is sufficient, as ur still downplaying what happened. i understand its a position u have to plan carefully, and its overwhelming too. to me, it reads more like excuses, although every explanation and additional detail is necessary in this occasion. as a final note, "This video was made to show the public when it's right to say no and send home.", i do not think u expressed or explained this in the video well enough. take ur time to regulate and process everything.
@@barone8889 Well there wasn't enough information to glean from besides 2 pissed off cats in a single carrier, a 4 hour drive, and shirts they don't like wearing. It took 24 hours of posting to mention the full details. This could have been included in the description instead of just leaving it as is. I'm glad that they got what they needed but posting this without more information is asking for trouble.

Attention, plain and simple. These cats clearly didn't need grooming, and if they did, they could have gotten one easily much closer to home.
Forcing cats who don't need to be groomed to be in a car for four hours just so they could get Internet fame is not a sign of a good owner. These poor things were stressed out of their minds.

I love Vanessa but this video is really distasteful and almost gross to me:/ The owners are obviously exploiting these cats and I can’t help but feel so sorry for them. of course they’re going to be spicy if they were left in a small carrier together, in a scary place such as the car with all the sensory input, shirts they obviously don’t like, and then come into a place that they genuinely do not know, and get groomed for no reason other than what most of us think is for their owners 15 seconds of fame. I’ve never disliked one of these videos before but this shouldn’t have been posted.. Its just giving these owners the 15 seconds of fame they wanted, encouraging that behavior, and stressing these poor animals out for no true benefit. The time you were made to expend for this could’ve went to pets that actually needed it.
She clearly posted this because she wanted to show that not all grooms are possible and the comments are very clearly ripping apart the owners. She still had these cats booked, she still needed to put out a video, and showing the cats really isn't giving the owners any fame. If anything it's making them look terrible.

Right? I’ve unsubscribed from her now. I had no idea she had this attitude towards cats as I’ve always watched her dog vids. Dog people are always so willfully ignorant towards cats. It takes two seconds of critical thinking to realize why the cats would be behaving this way. Incredibly disappointed in her.

Honestly seems like the owner just wanted their cats on your youtube channel more than anything. Why would they bring them if they are so hostile to strangers AND with the little clothes on? If they are hostile the last thing they want is your hands near their underside to take the little clothes off. How disrespectful of the owner.

They were 2 kitties from Hades. How their owners could imagine them allowing a groom is beyond me. Know your cat. Mine is a hellion. I would never try to get her groomed. She would freak out too much. Not worth it.

I agree with goodgollymissmolly. Although the owners should shoulder the bulk of the blame here, I think this groomer is due for some legitimate criticism for accepting a non-emergency grooming from so far away. She has indicated in other videos that she is aware of and asks about these considerations when booking app'ts., so what happened here? She fell down on the job, that's what, so some blame should be aimed her way, too. She should know better than this! I think that she's gotten so wrapped up in the feel-goods she gets from doing free grooms, that she is not using good judgement. Even though she grooms cats who don't need it regularly, she is still principally a dog person.
Literally why would you take someone as a client that has to drive that long 😭 if it was a human haircut I would probably think it’s kind of weird but if they really wanted their hair cut then whatever but it’s a pet, who gets no choice in the matter and is just subjected to stress and confusion for no reason

Shoving two cats into stupid shirts, then into one carrier, driving them for four fucking hours all for a groom they don't need (Then having to drive them back in that same carrier for four hours) is disgusting behaviour on the owners. A friend was attacked by a cat she was cat sitting. She looked like she'd been in a brawl. It jumped on her face, biting and scratching her. And the cat was in his own home. Some cats can be very aggressive.

My big adult British cat has a carrier where he can turn around and face the other way any time he wants. I never keep him there for longer than necessary. These two do not have that option, but for some reason do not own their own carriers? (Was it bought for this trip specifically? Are they travelling to vets like this, too? That's horrible.) Plus, they didn't have to be groomed, so why the hell were they even brought? To be featured on the channel for attention? That's borderline animal abuse.I'm scared to learn whether the owners dress the cats up and think it's cute and funny at home if the cats do not like it and each other. This makes me so mad. This is where I want to draw the line between OWNING a creature (this video) and being a creature's parent and have the creatures' best interests in mind. she's even stopped grooms on severely distressed cats before even, explicitly because continuing when the cat is in that state is dangerous for both groomer and animal.

I have to agree with most of the comments on this one, Vanessa. Usually I love your videos and little comments towards the animals, but there's no way around it and I won't do you the discredit of beating around the bush:
You shouldn't be defending the owners here. Most owners are clearly loving towards their pets. Whoever owns these cats... They're after a quick three minutes of fame off your back and clearly don't care about the safety of the cats or you here. The entire setup reeks of clout chasing.
Plus as you said, the cats didn't even need groomed! Did they tell you beforehand some story about the two desperately needing a groom?? I'd have taken one look at two clearly stressed cats in one carrier and turned them away, and can't believe you wouldn't have done the same with prior knowledge that the owners would do this. We don't even take our two boys in the same carrier to the vets twenty minutes away!!
Additionally, usually you're far more considerate of the animals than this. Tipping up the carrier to dump the poor girl out?!

Yeah, 100% agreed. I also have two cats who get along great most of the time, but I would never make them travel in the same carrier. When my vet told me to bring them in for the same appointment, I was a little skeptical because I try to avoid even having them experience a stressful situation together, and even then I brought them in different carriers and had the vet see them one at a time while the other waited in the carrier.
I'm shocked Vanessa had them both out at the same time with that kind of behavior. What was she thinking???

Vanessa grooms animals for free, so she needs the youtube views to pay for the expenses. I agree she could've handled it a bit differently, but the only ones looking for clout and who are to blame, are the cat owners. To everyone thinking they're mean and awful cats - they're clearly scared. Four hours away from their home in a new environment without their owners around? Honestly don't know why the owners thought this was a good idea. They look well-groomed already. If the Hawaiian shirts were put on just for the video, then that may have also added to the stress that these cats were feeling.

My cat has been doing many house moving (~10 times, 8-10 hours driving) since he was small, and the car was never a problem for him as a result. :) Even now that we stopped moving, you get him in the car and he'll just find a confortable place and go sleep. ^^

The rest never got used to the car ride so she used precautions when moving places and finds ways to calm them down when going to the vet.

Yeah as a cat owner there are so many reasons why this is messed up. Unless they had serious matting or something they didn’t need to come four hours, the clothes are unnecessary and stressing the cats out (clothes on cats should be for harnesses or to protect against over grooming) they are clearly very upset and there’s no way they weren’t crying the whole way down, whilst crammed into a claustrophobic carrier together. Not only did they put the cats in shirts (they are sending them in for GROOMING, why wouldn't you at least try and make the job easier by removing the shirts before that), then let them have a 4h drive to a new place they don't know, and on top of that have both cats in one carrier.

They wanted the internet attention and that's what you gave them. They trolled you. There's no reason they would've sent you spicy cats in shirts that didn't need groomed except to take advantage of you and waste your time. It was bad cat parenting on their part and they ought to be given a stern lecture. There was no reason to stress them out like that.

This video made me sad. Two obviously stressed and ultimately clean cats, which were dressed in Hawaiian shirts for some reason, brought in one cage on a four hour journey and then to subject Vanessa to what was clearly an uncomfortable situation? No wonder the cats were "angry" and scared. I'm so sorry that you were subjected to a case of needless cruelty to these poor cats. The owners should be ashamed.
The only thing I would say to Vanessa is that I think you need to have a better vetting process with the owners about which animals make it onto your channel and if they actually need grooming. Clearly, this one was one the owners wanted uploaded for clout, and I'm glad that you didn't give them much publicity.
I also think she needs to analyse her own behaviour here, because she didn't handle the situation very well. Several things like up-ending the carrier, using the towel to lift the cat up on the brightly lit table, poking the cat to get close ups of it hissing, trying to stuff them back into the carrier when they're aggressive towards one another... It just raises red flags, she seemed really stressed out and unable to form a plan to deal with the situation. The angle of the video is also all wrong, choosing a "lol angry cats" vibe for a video with clearly distressed animals is a bad choice, as the comments show.

True! I had two cats that spent all day, every day together just fine. So, when I had to board them overnight I took them to the vet in one cage and recommended that they be kenneled together, reasoning they would be less scared and lonely. Bad idea!! Vet said the two cats fought each other the entire time.

As a fan of this channel for a few years now. This is the first time I've actually had to give one of these videos a down vote. These poor kitties are in distress. And to joke about it and say their too, "aggressive", is just wrong. Their scared and stressed as hell! How would you like being stuck in a small carrier and forced to wear clothing that can make you hot and uncomfortable!? You wouldn't like it at all. You'd be panicking and not want strangers to touch you.

It's actually blowing my mind that someone thinks it's okay to shove two big cats into a carrier together, even worse for 4 hours. How much are they able to turn or even breathe in there...can they even lay down or relax for a 4 hour journey...? How uncomfortable is that. I have 3 cats and I would never dream of shoving two together unless my house is on fire and I'm in a rush to get out.

Some cats do better sharing a carrier. My previous pair travelled better in the same carrier than they did separately. It was, of course, a carrier suitable for medium dogs so there was plenty of room for both cats. The smaller one would invariably fall asleep in the back after a few minutes, the bigger one was more interested in seeing what was happening and she would hang out at the door until she'd fall asleep too. I'd just hear occasional 'are we there yet?' quizzical peeps from them now and again. Separate (or if I needed to travel just the one cat), it was 'the song of their people' the whole way there and the whole way back. I will grant they were probably very much the exception rather than the rule.

I had specifically bought a medium dog carrier so my old semi-feral from ages ago (when I bought the carrier) would have plenty of room. The later pair who travelled together started it as kittens (I really didn't want to separate them, then, even briefly), and the smaller one was always petite (7lbs fully grown). If either cat had ever shown any sign of not preferring to travel together, I'd have gotten the second carrier. To the best of my perception, it was always their preference if they had to travel at all.
@@tinyfistm.2607 These cats clearly don't. And most vets advise against it. Travel is scary for cat and a scared cat can lash out even if they are with another cat they normally get along fine with. And a cat is capable of causing serious injury and even killing another cat. Obviously, you know your cats. But, doubling up cats should be approached with caution and the type of knowledge that you have about your cats' preferences. Particularly for long trips. I'm ready to lash out after four hours trapped in a car and I'm not usually restrained to a carrier. If an owner isn't sure - definitely start with two carriers.

Because they were probably red tagged at a lot of groomers close by. My kitty was, so I had to bathe her myself. She kept me cut her nails and shave out any mats...Main Coons can be brushed 2 times a day and still get mats. But I loved her and she lived to be 24 years old. She was so very sweet to me, but not anyone else.😂❤ RIP, Misty. I'll always love you.
Plenty of other owners featured on this channel have traveled several hours just to have their pets groomed by Vanessa, and their pets never showed up this aggressive. Nervous, maybe a little stressed, sure, but not hissing, growling, and snapping. I think it's less the time traveled itself and moreso the fact they had to share a carrier for an extended period of time that these two cats behaved the way they did.
There have been other pets featured on the channel that have traveled similar distances. Not saying these cats or the other pets weren't stressed, but just wondering why no one has said anything about it before?
Some pets have issues being groomed and react with aggression. Groomers will often ban these pets instead of getting more training. If you have every groomer ban you in your area sometimes you have no choice and travel Long distances to groomers like Vanessa who will try
I'm thinking the owner thought that in case they ever do need a bath when older, it would be good to get them desensitised already... and thought Vanessa would be great to work with their cats for their first bath. Also I suspect these two cats are probably very good friends when in their home, and perhaps the owner thought "a 4 hour car ride is long, they'll be bored and lonely, maybe putting them together will be nice and they can keep each other company". The problem is that this isn't how cats work when they're tired and stressed.

I feel really awful for these cats and how they have owners who would put them through this, but also feel like you stressed these cats out for so much longer than necessary...normally I'd say you use very fear-free tactics, but this was such a scary experience for the cats. The trauma from this will be unreal 😭

Define 'normally'. Normally none of my cats have ever behaved like this because they're taught to tolerate minor stressful situations and handling. Some cats take longer, others learn fast, but all of them have learned. Looks like these two have not been taught any of that. But I do agree on the abysmal ownership part, unnecessary stress for the poor cats who have not learned to tolerate it.

This video shouldn't have been posted and the owner is lucky you don't really do shout-outs because those shirts are the smoking gun to me in the mystery of why someone would send cats to a pet groomer with a youtube channel, cats who do not need to be groomed. My theory now is that they were hoping they could've been recognized while wearing those shirts and get some clout out of it, the only thing they got out of this ordeal is two cats terrified of a grooming salon and two hawaiian cat shirts that are going in the bin.

Peeing outside the litter box is generally a big red flag for a health condition like a urinary tract infection--the cat associates the litter box with pain while urinating, and will try to go other places in hopes that it won't hurt. (Or, in cases where the cat's been declawed, they can experience pain while trying to dig in certain types of litter and will stop using the box for that reason. Which is one of several reasons to ban declawing.) However, leaving their poop in plain view--or on your stuff--is a clear "UP YOURS" :D

Cats groom themselves regularly unless old and sick. Cats are very clean animals. They are easily stressed compared to dogs. And they really really hate water on their bodies as a rule even though some tolerate it because of training but they'd rather not be subjected to regular baths like dogs that truly need regular baths.

Only to arrive in an unfamiliar place and have to be handled by a stranger who, despite her affection and patience, has to perform on them the most unpleasant things for a cat - bathing, cutting nails, blow drying.... I had cats for most of my life, and whilst very docile, none of them would have been happy with this either.

Agreed. Cat owners who know their cats, no matter how placid, know quite well (most) cats dont enjoy this. My cats vet has a 3ish minute window for checking him over, if she misses that, my soft cloud of a cat turns into a tornado.
Cats aren't "mean", they just don't tolerate BS. At all.
After a stressful 4-hour road trip I'm sure these cats weren't in the best of moods for grooming already. Add in their spicy personalities, and the eye-sore of those colourful Hawaiian shirts, and they were indeed untouchable. Good call in saving your limbs and vital organs.

I loved this channel until, as a cat lover, I stopped watching her cat videos as ignorance and lack of understanding and empathy were repeatedly displayed. Her smart-ass comments were at times inappropriate and downright nasty. She seems to be becoming drunk on the channel's popularity, but I for one am removing myself as a subscriber.
Those poor cats are terrified. I can't imagine what the owners were thinking.

It’s basically getting the owners what they want, and she did nothing to talk about why what the owners put these cats through was wrong. Instead she said that they treat their cats well which very much doesn’t seem to be the case.

Yea this is a job that should have been turned down. And it's even dumber that shit decided to upload it. There was no benefit to this, it just makes her and the owner look bad
how would she have known if they didn't come in? why would she have turned them down? I certainly wouldn't have expected the clients' cats to be hostile, why would she?
@MargaretCutt-um8iq she had to have known some of the details before they came in, and then the situation seems pretty clear right from the start. And separately, why even upload it in the first place? This whole experience just makes her and the owners look bad

I'm sorry but both you and the owners were completely irresponsible here. Forcing two cats that visibly do not require grooming (which you even say yourself) on a 4 hour drive stuck in a box, together, and forcing them into tight little outfits just for 2 minutes of internet fame is NOT the move. And neither is laughing at these cats' obvious fear and distress and acting offended by their lashing out and calling them mean instead of trying to handle them in a way that doesn't cause even more distress, you're acting like you've never seen an animal in distress before. Even if all of that was just a bit, it was at the expense of those cats.
Uploading this video and saying the owners take good care of their animals when this is a prime example of them NOT doing so is not it.
Also before anyone gets prissy: I'm not trying to hate or claim she hates cats, I genuinely love this channel, but this behavior is not okay and needs to be addressed.
I remember in one episode she was making fun of an obese cat instead of addressing how unhealthy and neglectful it is for the cat. This video is purely for Internet clout
