One of the biggest signings for me has been getting Malachi Fagan Walcott on a long term permanent deal. Again young with terrific potential. I don’t believe this will be the end of the signings either. It’s fair to say there will be a level of envy and everyone is going to want to beat us.
Rob is correct on the crowds, Bootham Crescent average around 2,500 and first season at the LNER was around 3,500. Since then our average attendance has grown even when we were flirting with relegation. Positive Marketing, Engagement in the community and working with the supporters trust has made a huge difference.
York fan here. Akinyemi will be on his way. He's a frustrating player. We've lacked a strong forward who can hold the ball at times. John-Lewis is in the twilight of his career. Not sure how Stones will fit in in our present system but Hinsh is creative and can make it work. He can be ruthless at times.
@@Robhalifax I might be totally way off the mark here. But I think Uggla’s seen this as an opportunity to weaken a title contender rather than Stones fitting into the side. Yes he’s a great addition but was that season really necessary? I don’t think he was someone Adam Hinshlewood targeted tbh
Stones is the wrong player for your club the money uve spent on him is crazy to be honest. He was valued at 85 to 110 madness to be honest and he will be on serious money he was at ours but good luck in rest of your season.
@lukewalsh-vnlpodcast1799 Apparently we were in for him 2 months ago but couldn't get it across the line. So it's not new. Stones brings something that we didn't have.
@@Robhalifax be interesting to know how he fits into the system. Can’t imagine Hinshlewood wanting to change it and he’s not going to get in over Pearce.
Brilliant podcast lads...from a York City fan...you're right money does talk in football but the way it's been used this season has created a fantastic, entertaining football team. Best manager and style of football we've seen here in the capital of Yorkshire. O and Luke...can't wait to see you here at the stadium. ....one team in Yorkshire! 😂 Love Woking and Aldershot especially their fans. Ardley is a good fit and Aldershot will keep plugging away and entertaining us. "Fitting in" is a job for the manager. In a 433 your front 3 can be interchangeable strikers rather than "two wingers and a striker". Hinsh will think creatively.
As a York Fan I can say that I think we didn't need another striker but there are rumours that Akinyemi is on his way to Chesterfield and John-Lewis is not a consistent finisher and is obviously fairly old. Pearce is also getting on so Stones is a young option up top. I'm sure a part of it was to weaken Oldham but ultimately that was not the only reason in my opinion.
@willlatham4716 how I see it is. It’s not the only reason I agree. But I think if Stones was on loan at a Gateshead or a Solihull. York wouldn’t touch him. It’s a swipe at Oldham. And that’s the main reason.
@@paruddock yes but we both know that Oldham were in for signing him on a permanent. If it was not for that reason. Then why didn’t York sign a striker like Regan Linney scored more goals. A 6 figure some would surely be enough for Alty to have sold him
@lukewalsh-vnlpodcast1799 because Linney is 27 and Stones in 21. Uggla sees him as someone who can grow with the clubs at the league. Think thats the main reason is that no only are we trying to get out this league but also planning for the future just like the signing of Fagan-Walcott. We were in for Stones before he went to Oldham on loan too.
@lukewalsh-vnlpodcast1799 I think you are not far off. We (OAFC) tabled a sensible bid for Stones (believed to be 225k) and Wigan used that as a barganing chip, York have paid over his estimated value given his injury history and lack of experience, 3k a week said our Dave Bradley. We wanted him in August but that failed, but I'm glad that we didn't blow a lot of money on a silly bidding war. The important thing though is that we have a budget for another striker and what Mellon does with Reid who has been called back after scoring 11 in 12 for Wealdstone. And there are some Linney to Oldham rumours but I can't vouch for them.
Alex reid is supposedly on his way but on loan. Forest green is just rumours. We are looking at a couple of young strikers from championship clubs but not been able to aquire the names.
Alex Reid (gloves from September to May) was off-loaded as not good enough by Stockport County when they won the NL title ahead of Wrexham in 2021/22 (1 goal in 13 appearances in a very good team); he was a disruptive influence at Oldham, but did ok at Wealdstone in the recent loan. Would like to see York back in the EFL, but Reid is not good enough.
With all those Notts County connections, I will be looking at Woking with interest. NO mention was made of Adam Chicksen who is staying at Woking. How is he doing at the moment. He was great for Notts in the National league and I think that under Neil Ardley he can find his former form. Only time will tell.
Hi mate! So far chicksen has been alright, he was (like many) a victim of the previous manager and has a tough start, but under ardley he’s getting better and better as games go on
I would say it’s between ourselves (York) and FGR for the title, I think Gateshead will not now have enough having lost further key players, Oldham don’t have a strong enough squad, and Barnet are too inconsistent. I think we’re just going to carry on strengthening if needed which no one else can really match.
I've said all along the Heed weren't Championship material, play off chasing YES. The next few weeks will define our season. I think we will sign players to replace those gone. Will McGowan has been brought back from his loan spell at Darlo and scored at the weekend. So hope springs eternal.
OAFC tabled a sensible bid for Stones (believed to be 225k) and Wigan used that as a barganing chip, York have paid over his estimated value given his injury history and lack of experience, 3k a week said our Dave Bradley. I think we did the sensible thing and walked away.
We're top but we haven't won anything yet. Forest Green have a multi millionaire chairman and I assume parachute payments. Where are the accusations of them trying to "buy the league"? Don't even get me started on Wrexham!! If FGR win midweek they go top though we will have a game in hand. Us, FGR, Barnet or Oldham could go on to win it. I'm not crowing about being top, pride comes before a fall but picking on us for doing what other clubs have done is a bit much.
@samcollyer9699 I could name our full team and it's no where this, do you have a link for the list Sam? Curious if it's includes all of the academy who played in the fa trophy vs farlsey
@ I dont have a full list link but in the squad currently there is based off my personal up to date NL database u now have 33, and that includes academy players who have pro deals
@samcollyer9699 with 7 or 8 academy we probably do hit around that number, id be curious if we have more "pros" at the academy than other teams hence the higher number but maybe not a true reflection
Don’t blame them. We did it, Notts county made it difficult on us. Can’t buy ur way out of the league. Not this one. It’s a brutal hell scape of a league. Grounds are sketchy, refs even worse, some of the stadiums are just short of a cockfighting pit. Can’t say I blame them
Hinshelwood keeps telling York fans about the strength and depth of their squad. Surely they should have been able to select any team from their squad and beat Gainsborough, from two divisions lower. They made eight changes, their finishing was below Sunday League standard. They are the Brentford of the NL, brilliant at home, but look at their away record.
The guy up front against Gainsborough literally was a Sunday league player at the start of the season! Focus on the league. No interest in the FA Trophy.
