Going on a cruise next month. My wife found your cruise review site. Me: “Yeah Babe, that’s Cruisemans garage. He’s my Goldwing guy…”
What cruise line are you going on?
Norwegian Prima. Our first one.
Very interesting. We don’t have a yearly inspection for motorcycles in Nevada, yet. However, our registration fees are through the roof! My ‘23 Gold Wing tour was over $500! Ouch!
Dayuum...that much? Ouch!
I’m assuming driving off from dealership…could that be the reason?
I just looked at my registration bill. Only $33 of that total is labeled “vehicle registration.” The rest of the money to get your bike registered goes for various taxes. The “government services” tax, for example, is $347. Yeah, we don’t have state income tax…but they’re gonna get you somewhere!
@@bruceyung70 Whether you buy from a dealer or private party our registration fees are based on the original MSRP, plus a bunch of add-on governmental service taxes. The fees do go down a little each year as the bike, or car, ages and depreciates in value. Buy from a private party versus a dealer, though, and you do avoid the sales tax of 8.375%.
I live in a free state where the only time you need an "inspection" is when you bring a vehicle in from out of state or are changing from an offroad title to registration for the road. And all it is is a check of the title and VIN to make sure it isn't stolen. Our highway patrol writes tickets for equipment violations.
In Delaware, when you buy new you have 5 years and then you have to have the motorcycle inpected at the DMV when your tags expire..its pretty simple you just ride in thru the DMV garage and they check your light, turn signals refectors, mirrors, horn, and look at your tires...you can tag it for 2 years at a time if you like...motorcycles are 20 dollars a year for tags...obviously the guy doing the motorcycle inpection never saw the crash video's comparing the airbag wing to the standard wing.
Same here in NY. Once a year safety inspection. Makes sense! At my Harley Davidson dealer they do it without any involvement with me. About a fifteen minute process. A $42 charge for registration here.
GREETINGS FROM THE PPRC , LIFE IS LIKE A ROLL OF TOILET PAPER THE CLOSER TO THE END YOU GET THE FASTER IT GOES.😎
No inspection in Florida. Just paid $50 for a 2 year registration on my 2016 Goldwing.
Why don't we all live in the FREE state of Florida?
I can't believe that the test is light touch as that. In UK brakes are tested on rolling road, starting in near future anything less than 1.5mm on pads will be a fail.....
Tennessee, no yearly vehicle inspections. Renew your vehicle registration yearly when due. Cost varies by what county you live in to register the vehicle(s). Mine is $48 a year per vehicle.
Sadly our tabs cost me about $2,500. A year for two cars and one motorcycle. Crazy high cost for tabs here
Interesting in my town in East Texas only the motorcycle dealers do motorcycle inspections. They charge $7 here. 😊
such a basic inspection, they go into great detail here in the UK, every year once the bike is 3 years old
Here in the U.K. as my venerable old Honda GL1100 (1983) is over 40 years old, and classed as a classic, it’s now exempt from both Vehicle Excise Tax (or otherwise known as Road Tax) and the annual MOT (Ministry of Transport) vehicle examination test. As the owner you are still responsible for keeping your motorcycle in good and safe roadworthy condition (tyres etc…) but as most guys who own and ride classic bikes, they are normally quite competent with basic maintenance tasks. My 1977 Kawasaki Z1000 A1 also falls into the classic bike category, however both of the bikes still require insurance to be held on the bikes in order for them to be used on the road. I have my bikes on a limited mileage classic bike policy which works out to around £150 per year. To be honest that’s a bit of a bargain. Looking forward to 2040 when my GL1500 (2000 model) also falls into the classic bike category. I think the GL1500 will make it to 2040 without any issues, but to be perfectly honest, I’m not too sure about me making it!
Also from uk 🇬🇧 & the goldwing brought me here too. Vechle test in Texas is so relaxed? Good luck with the goldwing GL1500 love that bike 👍👍
@@straightup1234 Glad that you have a soft spot for the GL1500. I am doing a few maintenance jobs on my 1500 during the Winter, so she will be ready for rides out in the summer. The bike has only 12,000 miles on the clock and is in really beautiful condition. My GL1100 has only 4,000 on the clock and looks as if it just rolled of the Honda production line.
In Switzerland we have the first inspection after 5 years, if the bike or car was brand new. The second inspection after 3 years and then every 2 years. They are very strict and it cost's you at least 100 bucks. Luckily they didn't discover my Traxxion Shock Absorbers 😊 Because they have no approval. But they are buried under all these panels.I love my GW
About the same in Sweden wery strict and expensive
Here in georgia where I live , we do not require inspection Stickers and our tags are only twenty dollars a year
In Manitoba Canada, a new motorcycle has to have a Safety Certificate before it can be registered and insured. A used motorcycle has to have been safetied within the previous 2 years before it can be registered and insured. If more than 2 years has passed, it must pass a safety before it can be registered and insured. This applies to any motor vehicle. Any vehicle can also be called in for an inspection by the Provincial insurer at any other time. Failure to have the vehicle inspected will result in a cancellation of the registration and insurance. A peace officer can also cause to have any vehicle inspected, when he sees it being operated.
No annual inspections in Minnesota. However, when I lived in Arizona, they required annual emissions testing (at idle only!). I don't remember what the actual cost was at the time.
here in NY , i believe we have to go to a motorcycle dealer because the bike sticker has the adhesive on the back while the car sticker has the adhesive on the front to be mounted on the inside of the windshield
i'm surprised they didn't check the tire tread depth. everybody checks it here
No inspections for bikes, cars, or light trucks in Ontario Canada! Plate renewals are free and automatically renewed!
Look at the bright spot, this is the last year you have to do it! It was repealed last session.
And if theyre charging you $20, theyre ripping you off. Its state mandated in Texas at $7.
Missouri...$30 for 2 year plates, but we pay personal property tax every year based on the assessed value of the vehicle also. I think inspection was $10. All motorcycle plates now come due in June. Until a few years ago it was April, but someone finally got smart enough to realize how hard it is to find good enough weather in April to get your bike to an inspection station and they changed it to June.
Firestone inspection was 10 bucks and $53.78 for the registration so I can’t complain! It seems other states are charging a lot higher in fees.
I usually take my bike to a dealer. None have ever had me do that stop test.
No longer have inspection here in NJ. $65 yearly registration.
Nevada has no inspection for motorcycles. For autos, depending on registered area, you have to have an annual smog inspection.
The floor of that garage looks awfully slick for a bike. $55 annual registration, no inspection required here in Ohio
Here in Cleburne, just south of DFW, it's only $7. They check the brakes, lights, and horn.
😂😂😂
In my view, time definitely goes quicker as you get older! Why is that I wonder? I'm now retired...when I was at work I was forever clock-watching so time tended to drag. I don't need to do that anymore, so the day seems to go quicker. That doesn't explain why the months fly by, however!
Enjoy that retirement David!
@@roadglide Thank you, Roadglide, I most certainly am!
Wow! I'm in Arizona and I paid $334.83 for my 2021 Gold Wing Tour. That's insane! It's clearly a luxury tax. No renewal inspections.
A different concept to the UK, we have the brakes tested separately front and back using a rolling road and they have to achieve a certain restraint when applying the brakes. Cost wise (converted to US Dollars from £ is $38 for the yearly inspection (inspection is only applicable at the 3rd year and each year thereafter) and the yearly road tax is $140 per 12 month period for the GW. They don’t call the UK “RIP off Britain” for nothing 😢
Well, cruise man the older you get the faster the time goes seem like Monday one day and then the next day is Saturday. This is Robert from Albany Oregon. Enjoy your veg. Keep up the good work.
I don't know if it still that way. But when I was in California inspection was every 2 years . Sure miss that now that I live in Texas .
Here In Tennessee we do not have a state required inspection each year. To renew the tags on my bike in 26 dollars a year.
In NC, motorcycles, are required to pass annual safety inspections before owners can complete their yearly registration renewals. Licensed mechanics inspect the following components during state inspections: Headlights, accessory lights, and directional signals. Tires and brakes. The inspection cost is $13.60. Registration requires you to pay the personal property tax, so my 2023 GL1800 will be around three hundred dollars plus some additional admin fees.
Florida. $24.10 registration per year, no inspection, no helmet if insured. No state income taxes, homestead exemption for property taxes, added exemption of 5k for veterans, and ride my Goldwing year round. Oh. Life is like a role of toilet paper Chris. The closer it gets to the end of the roll the faster it spins. LOL. 🤣
No inspections in Kentucky. My registration for my 2018 Wing was $18.50 but taxes were $163 last year.
No inspection here in New Mexico. Just paid for 2 years tag renewal $45 on my 19 HD Road Glide Ultra. My 19 GW will be due in a few months. Just moved here from the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. Much cheaper here in NM.
Wow....here in the UK the annual vehicle inspection, or MOT as we call it, is a lot more comprehensive. You have to leave the bike with them for about an hour. It also cost £30 for a bike over 200cc. I presume your "registration" fee is the equivalent to our annual "road tax," which for a Goldwing is currently £111 per year. Quite different to what you're paying.
No inspections of any kind required in South Carolina or Georgia for motorcycles. Just pay the yearly registration fee. Heck..helmets not even required in South Carolina!!
As many people hate California, we don't have any inspection....YET!. With all the smog regulations here, I don't think it will be long before they start doing that. Our cars have to be smogged every two years. You can't take it where you want every time, because sometimes they will tell you to take it to a STAR Compliant station.
FYI: This is the last year that Texas will require an inspection.
Certain Cities in Texas will still require an inspection on cars for exhaust emissions but I have not heard about motorcycles .....
Here in Alabama we have no inspection the yearly tag is $29. 2007 goldwing
I’ll pay your registration anytime here in Maine I paid $700 registration and $12.50 for inspection last year on my 2021 gold wing.
We don't have an inspection here in Indiana but my registration for my 2018 goldwing is $135. My 2003 Silverado is $75.35 and my 2013 Hyundai Sonata is $140.35. Year after year we pay out the you know what.
Good thing, no more inspections in 2025. We will still get charged the $7.50 by the state of TX. At least we don’t have to take the time to bring it to a shop any longer. 👍🏼
Ruled an unconstitutional tax in Mississippi. Tennessee has no inspection either.
Thank God we don't have inspection in NJ.
Registration manually $65 (while cars are paying $45, go figure)
Thats interesting you have a driving portion for your state inspection. You don't have that for cars and trucks that I'm aware of. I live not far from you since 2007 and I have not had to ride and come to a stop as part of it. I wonder how many people have had your experience?
They don't care who you are, hence no request for DL, only that there is insurance on the bike. Also, come 2025 the requirements for inspection goes away in Texas. But the sniffer could be coming our way.
Hi Chris , I have similar situation,I go to testing station ,and check lights, signal ,brake lights ,and pass it ,also it no charge ,thay tell me there no way in system that can charge me ,remember Chris I believe there doing away with state test at the beginning of 2025 in state of Texas ,regards Chris from Hurst Tx 🇬🇧
I am very interested with respect to the inspector's airbag comment...great video Cruiseman.
It’s amazing what people say about safety equipment.
I did a bit of research on Goldwing AirBags before buying one 9 years ago and never heard such a comment about being dangerous for the knees when deployed. I've owned nothing but AirBag models (4) since then and still ride one today. Does anyone out there share the same opinion as this "inspector"?🤔
I have always read that the airbag is the safety way to go.
Hi, New-Brunswick, Canada, no safety inspection ever, yearly registration is $43/each motorcycles I have
Yeah that is a fact….my last registration fee for my 21 goldwing was over $400
Wow, Here in Quebec, Canada it will cost me about $700,00 for register my bike, that for 500cc to 1800cc. The other speed bike or over $1000.00 and more all of this depends on your age. But insurance is about another $300 or more. This is for 7 month use. We don’t have any inspections here and maybe we should.
A can-am ryker or Spyder is much cheaper mine is $249.00 in Quebec , motorcycle are in the amount you indicated Alain & Yellow
J’aime mon Goldwing DCT. Je te souhaite une bonne saison 2024. Be safe!
In Washington State there are no vehicle inspections. We also have a crap load of vehicles on the road that should not be there! Because our states license tabs are so high, and the police have decided not to look for out of date tabs, many people no longer by tabs and their vehicles are not legal. The other problem we have is a crazy amount of people driving without any insurance which if we had inspections maybe they would catch those people who have not had 12 months of continuous insurance
Iowa is a free state no inspections , i thought Texas was a free state too, just big brother taking your money , also tags are only $20 any year and only pay $40 a month for full coverage insurance 2018 DCT Goldwing
man they did a lot more than they did on mine (in another state of course )
Mine is due! Now, stop raining long enough for me to get it inspected 👍🏻
Didn't you just buy some nice rain gear? Just sayin'. 😇
My 2003 Gold Wing is $119.25 in WA State.
Here in California, 2023 tour. $435 a year for tags. Hoping my current living state changes soon.
Wow. You pay for that great weather.
Hello and good evening Chris. I purchased your 2018 plus goldwing maintenance videos I am now being asked to upgrade to your new ott platform for 24.00 dollars, not such a big deal but the issue I am having is there has not been a new upload in almost a year. Are there any more videos coming for the 2018 plus wings? I really don't need to see to "Upgrade " at this point. I know I missed the "free" upgrade that was given 75 days into the 90 day window for the free upgrade.
Guy, moving to the OTT platform is completely optional. You can continue to access the videos on the Video On Demand platform. Many owners feel that the new interface, search capabilities and other features are worth the $24 "upgrade", but not everyone is upgrading. As for new videos, yes, new videos will be added and existing videos will be updated on the Video On Demand platform.
Very surprised Texas is so overly Govt regulated, Vehicles do not need to be inspected every year. That 7$ didn't really cover that guys time.
Unless your county is different from mine (Mclennan) inspections will go away in Texas 1-1-25.
Where is a good place to buy a backrest for my stock 2018 seat ?
Same in the uk. @£40 annual inspection….
Starting in 2025 state law no longer requires state inspection stickers In Texas.
If I am guessing it is a result of all of the illegals that don’t have insurance and can’t get an inspection anyway.
No inspection in WA state. Just pay the fees. . .
don’t let WA. state get wind of this.
Is this a bike inspection or a DMV motorcycle test😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My California motorcycle registration for my 2021 Goldwing is $337. 😵💫🤬
They have done away with it in Mississippi a few years ago
I think they are about to do away with it here.
Cruiseman what is the brand name of the gloves you have on in this video?
BILT at Cycle Gear
The older you get, the faster time goes 🤷🏻♂️
99 s 10 WA. $110.00
live in new jersey? what's inspection? haha...no inspection of bikes whatsoever. Just register and insure, all the upkeep and safety is on the rider. Registration is 65 bucks a year
I'm a little confused why didn't you go to a honda motorcycle dealership i guess they do UT different there in texas???
15 miles to the nearest Honda dealer.
@cruisemansgarage that's not bad just 15miles
Go ahead and spend your $7 elsewhere for next years state inspection. Gov Abbott signed a bill abolishing safety inspections beginning in 2025.
What a joke....IMO its just another way to charge us.
Agree
