I remember when he sang amazing grace in one of his videos from years ago (Arma 3 with Pierre) and he didn’t even know all the lyrics and said he was “unpatriotic” for not knowing. Now that I know that Amazing Grace and the Star Spangled Banner are in the same vain in his mind, it truly shows that this man is not making a joke for this podcast and the joke comes full circle 😅

the talk about how movies are too loud is SO real. recently went to go see LOTR in cinemas again and it was the single loudest thing i've ever heard in my life, even being barricade at concerts felt 10 times quieter than that. the sound effects were awful, felt like my head was about to explode when i got out. i wonder if anyone actually enjoys the volume being that high...
also, this episode might be the one thing that actually convinces me to watch deadpool & wolverine, cause those ADs i saw were really doing a bad job at it LMAO.

I remember joining a discord server before and the majority of them weren't from america. They were in vc tslking about how America had such a nice sounding national anthem. I found out that they were convinced that America's national anthem was Country Roads. They were flabbergasted when I pointed out that it wasn't the national anthem at all. One of them even asking if we could change it. That server is now dead, but that is definitely one of my favorite memories.
Kinda funny lando said connor is too short for wolverine, iirc in the comics he's actually a short king, people only think he's tall due to hugh jackman.
Also, for the straw thing, the actual objective correct answer is one hole, because in the mathematical field of topology the entire "empty space" in the straw is defined as a single hole rather than having the entrance and exit both be holes. As long as something can be twisted and stretched into a shape without cutting or overlapping the initial and final shapes have a few shared characteristics, including the amount of holes, thus a straw has the same amount of holes as a donut aka one.
More Marvel fan than American I see 😅😂 I once read in an article (don't remember where, don't even know if its credible or peer-reviewed) that we watch horror movies as a form of de-stressing activity. The shivers, the jump scares, any muscle spasms release stress and we like this because it all happens in a controlled environment - the safety of your home (not so much a movie theatre for you guys though) and we know it's a movie, it's fake, even if it's the so called "based on true events" it's very unlikely we would be in the situation the characters are in. So yeah, kind of along the lines of what Lando said. Thank you for the fun podcast!

My opinion is the same as Connor's, where a straw has 1 hole. If you took a donut, with 1 singular hole, and stretch it out vertically so it's super long, it's still the same 1 hole except now your donut looks like a straw lol.
I'm trying to decide if a tunnel is a big hole or a different thing entirely.
I always go with Telekinesis. You get flight, you can lift without strength, etc. TK is multifunctional super power.

You should! The original, that is. It's dated for sure, but it's still a good fun movie. And the... remake? Sequel? Apparently is getting high praise from fans of the original, so I'm very excited to see it as someone who grew up with it.
As for your takes on horror, I think anyone who actually likes *horror* would agree completely. Jumpscares aren't horror, they're not scary, they're just cheap surprises.
Good horror can *have* jumpscares; Dead Space comes to mind, but if the "horror" relies on them... then it's not horror. It's a startle game/movie, not a scary game/movie.
Two of the best examples of *horror* I can think of are Voices of the Void, and Library of Ruina's Lovetown.

Horror movie recommendations! Coherence, Nope, The Endless, Hell House LLC, Noroi (The Curse), Kairo (Pulse), The Wailing, The Incantation are some of my favorites in recent years. Additionally, Dave Made a Maze, a weirdly unsettling absurd semi-comedy horror that I think more people should watch (and one of the actors is James Urbaniak who is the voice of Dr. Venture so I think you'd both get a kick out of that)
Kairo is absolute peak but you're reccomending it to the wrong people lol. They are not making it past the first 20 minutes lol
Lando PLEASE watch Baby Driver. The movie is full of car chase scenes, but it's amazingly done. (Coming from someone who doesn't care about cars at all.)
you havent met anyone who loves sex scenes... you GOTTA talk to a Bridgerton fan. People complained that there werent more sex scenes in S2 & S3. Sex as a way to explore relationships? Peak.
I still hate dealing with people at the theater and am so happy to be in a whole ass theater with like 4 other people, getting to sit-back and feel like "this is all mine hahaha" even though it obviously isn't lmao. But also I like being alone so I can then feel free to be "that guy" and actually laugh or do anything during the movie. Deadpool and Wolverine definitely earned every laugh and like moment of me shaking my arms in excitement that happened, but it was so FREEING to have like no one within 5 seats of me in every direction to do so lmao.
I'm shocked boys. Other than mention of popcorn, no food talk.

You have to try 4DX movie theaters. Kaiju movies are so amazing. Deadpool in 4DX you get tossed around.
I was definitely looking forward to hearing the two of you talking movies and comic books being a fan of both since childhood because of your passion towards both. You delivered and it was super interesting! I am all about cinematic quality, music and well told stories/crafted characters in media, that will grip me most. I can watch almost anything but if those three/four aren't there it's a trudge. The cast are the cherry on top. That being said I think recapturing the magic of our youth IS a huge factor in the media we want to consume as an adult. We want that excitement of that golden era we loved so much!
Just like the super powers we would want. Healing being mine. As we get older we think of the responsibility and realistic nature of them. Would they actually BE useful in our day to day? Would our minds even like have them? As the two of you know I don't like gore much and healing would mean I'd have to deal with it regularly. In the day to day what would I heal? Superficial injuries? So I totally understand your take. I was asked on Wednesday actually why I could watch horror if I scare REALLY easily. I also considered the thrill of it being the reason for it.
For me, it's more palatable in a group with us talking about it throughout the film because we can focus on the movie quality vs the scares. It's the togetherness I like. I'm less frightened by it and can actually laugh and enjoy myself. Just like Connor said it's that way. Much like in the apocalypse situation. I'd choose the quicker more painless route when all other options are exhausted. 2 holes for a straw is my opinion. Bravo guys!
I wonder why I've never heard of a superhero who has healing powers, kinda like Josuke with his Crazy Diamond. It'd be my choice of a superpower, because it's hard to mess up with it, unless the government were to catch me and make me only heal some horrible dictator's hemorrhoids
I have not ONCE kept up with any superhero multiverse thing so hearing y'all talk about it was interesting. I think i enjoy movies with unique art direction and imaginative settings so superhero movies rarely appeal to me cause they became really same-y so they could all tie into each other more easily. Superhero settings are interesting to me not just cause of the cool factor but also the social and moral questions it brings up and you get to think of creative ways to use powers...My least favorite superhero thing is when they keep relying on using the powers in the same way always!! That happens in Jojo a lot too...characters literallly just FORGET cool stuff they can do cause it would break the entire show.
If I had a superpower, honestly I would just use it to make art or to age slower and stay physically able for longer...like if i could fly, I would just do cool flying performances with it at festivals or parades or the circus 🧚✨

About explicit scenes in movies, p0rn has become SPAM online so you cannot rely on explicitness to attract viewers like they did back in the day when you had to go to a literal store to buy it. That's why a lot of old low budget movies used to have actresses randomly being naked and stuff, to ensure more people would go see it lol. But THESE DAYS, imo a sex scene has to be more than just explicit stuff...it has to be relevant to the plot and/or fit the movie it's in. Like if I'm watching a SEXY movie with a strong romance plotline, then it makes sense. If it's randomly just in an action movie, I don't need to see the whole thing!! You can just imply it or not show the actual act. I think there is still a place for sex and explicit stuff in movies but there is an art to it, and i hope people can be honest whether they just don't like it at all or if a movie just did it poorly
I came back here to comment after stumbling across Night Man in the CW app. Idk about anyone else, but I grew up seeing reruns on local TV. I'm sitting here trying to power through it and snorting at the ultra 90s camp. You love it yet... lol. But, it's now technically a Marvel comic, as they bought it from Malibu comics. I'd love to see the team who handled Daredevil handle this. If reimagined, it could mesh well with current events and inject new life into Marvel.
Edit: I'd stumbled upon crossovers between Night Man and X-Men (A few vs Gambit comics). The TV series features a lot of A-List actors for the time, and i think made a reference to Marvel by having Night Man show up at the costumed ball and bump into someone dressed as Spiderman. I'm kinda interested in at least reading more into the actual comics now. Having seen more of the show, it's in that odd TV vibe that Charmed sorta hit (also Bay area). Moments where you're face-palming, but others where you feel satisfied that the bad guy of the week got what he deserved.

When I heard you say the American anthem is Amazing Grace, I slowly and sagely nodded to myself because as a non-American I also only know my country's to a certain extent. Still, the rendition wasn't half bad and I couldn't stop smiling over how funny it was!
It sure was fun to listen to you two talk about your opinions and takes on movies, your knowledge in the field made it sound even more interesting and makes me want to watch more on my own time to expand my horizons! Even as someone who isn't too well versed in Marvel or DC like myself, the flow was great to follow. Good point made on multiverses, I feel they need variation as well as good writing across the board or else it'll become too muddled and confusing to keep up with a universe's setting and story. On the topic of recurring movie tropes, I'd have to agree with you both. Love scenes can end up so fundamentally awkward and detached from real life, while plane turbulences tend to always get the happy outcome instead of tragedy and car scenes do need this extra oomph to stand out from others. If anything, it would be better to add a twist to existing tropes to not repeat the same old thing we have seen before.
By the by, that Nic Cage impression from the both of you was fantastic I was hollering. 👍 Meanwhile on the topic of your super power discussion I could see teleportation coming in handy as a means to travel from one place to the other in a matter of seconds but as you pointed out, it could also turn into a trip straight in the Shadow Realm. Loved the timestop ability talk, that one's useful for shenanigans indeed. Overall, there are useful ones and ones prone to error and as such less useful so you'd definitely have to give picking one serious thought. Also the image of Connor as the Ant Man stunt double with Lando's comment ended me. 🤣 Big agree on movies being about the experience, too! You go for a fun time watching something, it's special and not an activity you do on a daily basis. The film trailer talk as well; nowadays the tend to spoil everything with them and it sort of ruins the movie as a whole even if by a small margin.
There's sense in Lando's description about wanting to see horror, there's this hidden curiousity of wanting to find out the whole story and I also find myself spending a good amount of time reading about these things just to get all the facts (while losing track of time). Questions corner was great as per usual! The idea of you taped together to form the endboss, unbeatable alpha zombie got me wheezing as bad as you two I could see the image pretty clearly. Straw debate felt like I was listening in on the most philosophical of discussions, that went deeper than I anticipated with the unlimited theory from Prof in particular. He deserved the win for provoking deeper thinking. Lovely episode guys, looking forward to the next one!
I gotta say, I thought Wandavision was really good but the movie ruined it because the director refused to watch the show so they basically reset Wanda for the movie 🤦🏾♀️
Wandavision was great for the first half, then it just kept getting worse, the blue ball of "haha it's just a guy named boner" and then Wanda's friend going "they'll never know what you sacrificed" as if she didn't just torture an entire town. Don't me smack talking Sam Reimi. Without him, we wouldn't have Evil Dead or Toby Spiderman.

I believe it is the Commander's duty to educate our dear Professor in the greatness that is the Fast and Furious series (at least until 4 + the spin off with the Rock as lead). 1:18:22 Oh boy this question again. I find Lando's perception of it very amusing but I think it's fundamentally incorrect. A hole is an opening. Since a straw is a tube, it has two holes (openings) by definition. Lando cutting the straw in half would result in 4 total holes, but you could also create more holes by poking it with a needle. Still funny to hear you guys discuss this though.

I agree on the theaters experience, at least on the US they are so expensive while in my country tickets are like 5 bucks each l, popcorn convos for less than 30 usd and we get amazing experiences with the audience. It seems like that is dying over there so its kind of sad.
As for the superpowers...Connor was right, the mechanics inside Lando's mind sometimes scare me like wtf 💀

The Marvel rant I agree and relate to so much with. It is so oversaturated with all the shows that make it so hard to care about their nonsense plots. I would love for them to just start over on new characters. Drop the dependence on recurring characters, Hollywood fame, and 6-8 episode “it’s basically a long movie” ploy locked behind the subscription model. Just go back to the basics? I get not all of them can be hits especially after Endgame but I remember dropping after Wandavision, Loki, and Moon Knight because the plot conflict in the middle facing the “villain” was just a huge “okay, but why” and that why never being answered from the world-building get go. They just don’t work as shows for me.
I worry how they bring back Daredevil if it follows the same formatting of the D+ shows or they decide to follow the Netflix 20-ish episode format again (also as someone that was a fan of DD, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher)
But otherwise, I’m willing to hold out hope for Deadpool & Wolverine and going to watch it soon.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't like horror movies at all. To be fair, I've only watched a few, but I've never gotten a thrill from a horror movie. My imagination often runs wild and I just get super paranoid about whatever the movie was about. I remember watching one in college wth some dormmates and literally did not sleep that night because of that movie. While it did it's job of instilling horror it provided no thrill or entertainment.

It only tangentially relates to the Marvel talk, but I finally sat down and finished reading the manga for Naruto. It seemed like the ending arc for Naruto was not enjoyable at all for me and I literally only read through it to see the ending and say that I finished it.
