Is it metal flake or glitter? Lets debate 😂
Glitter flake
Flitter
metal saw dust !!!
Okay this is the way I look at it. If it has anything to do with Automotive/ motorized vehicle or a sport then it's metal flake. Any other use of said item is glitter
@@Crispy1320 that’s solid logic
Sam Bass rules you are doing a great job taking us on these side journeys that still are fun and informative. Thanks for bringing us along..
Thanks man we hope these videos can help people who pay attention
You should do a feature on Sam.
It’s amazing to see hand painted helmets when vinyl wrap is taking everything over. Nothing beats air brushed and painted art.
Some companies do vinyl helmet designs and, while cost effective, they look horrible up close.
I do vinyl helmets but have always respected and loved helmet paint, one day I’ll be able to afford a booth and proper setup and paint.
@@BobbyGeneric145someone shitty is doing them then. I alternate between painted helmets and wrapped helmets and I constantly get asked if my wrapped helmets are painted.
I am actually a student of there prior art teacher at the school that Greg and Noel went to and I got to meet the two of them and create a few helmet designs for them and then they gave me two helmets to paint when I get a chance - Super glad to have met them and they are really great guys
Dude!!! I went to high school with Greg and Noel. We had the same are teacher Mr Locke. He was a positive influence on alot of us. Greg played drums , I played bass and our friend played guitar. We worked at the same theme parks, good dudes. We grew up in a flat broke town next to branson. Wish I would have stayed in contact with em. If you see him again tell him Ryan told you to ask about the golf cart. Man we did some sketchy crap. So awesome to see these guys killing it
Hey Ryan!
That's what I love about your channel Mitchell. Somehow you always come up with content and nobody else would ever think to do. I always wondered who painted all the helmets and now I know
That’s what we’re here for 😂
Yes paint your own helmet for race week & other races that would be soo cool. 👍
had a chance to stop by sam bass's gallery before he passed. he actually came out and talked to us for a long time and was a really nice guy. bought an earnhardt daytona 500 picture he did and he autographed it for us. really hated to hear of his passing.
Holy crap, I really enjoyed this episode. Like the look on Noel face when Logan pointed out the hole in his shirt.
Collateral damage, buddy!
@@noelmcewen6516 I hope I didn't offend you, I just thought it was funny , the face you made. What you guys do is absolutely amazing. Do you do helmets for anyone? How much are they? I don't race or anything I just love you're work.
I swear this channel rocks... From abandoned nascar tracks to in depth coverage of the painting of the helmets, and let's not forget the beast the escalade
Thanks man we just dive into anything we find interesting lol
This video was awesome Mitchell. Very cool inside look at an industry I knew existed but never knew much about. Being an artsy person myself this was awesome to see what hard work and dedication built for these guys to turn a hobby into an obviously all paid career.
Built the freezer system at Andrews Air Force Base, and knowing how many people will be fed over 25 years from my hands beyond proud. I could only imagine these guys stepping back
This was very cool content and you and Logan should definitely do some custom helmets
Love all the different roads you go exploring down, and thank you tremendously for sharing. I hadn't thought about paint jobs on helmets. It's great to see some wonderful individuals succeeding in their business, friendship, and art.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks man we’re glad you’re here!
I’ve never thought about the places that paint helmets like this, it was really cool to see. Just some normal laid back guys that are painting all these super cool, detailed nascar helmets
Greg Stumpf use to be from this racing area. Good dude! From Branson to the big leagues!
I’ve been a fan of all styles of racing and motor sports, and have been lucky enough to have been involved with quite a few race teams and been able to travel the country racing, and even until this day (46 yrs old) I am fascinated with the custom helmets and the beautiful haulers. I think the super cross, dirt racers, (sprints, late model, mods) have the best helmets, they are bright, most have personal touch showing there personality’s, and like he said in the video are less sponsored based. I know the great people at Off Axis are extremely busy as it is, but a UA-cam channel would be amazing, and there are a ton of fans like me that love seeing the helmet, but unfortunately they are never really shown off that much and are sometimes only seen in the background. These amazing art pieces need to be seen more.
20:45 BYRON’S HELMET IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!!
I agree it’s epic
These guys have a great story on how they got started. Kinda helps you open your mind at the possibilities of your own ideas and where they could take you if you act on them.
Some pretty darn cool video content in this episode! Love to hear all the old stories so prevalent with the storied history of something of this sort. Off Axis painting looks like they do a great business back there.
Thank you & Logan so much for another great video, very cool stuff! I'm there!
Love these videos! So cool to see how this stuff is done!
I was so sad when you guys moved out of Texas, but the content you are producing is amazing where you are. You couldn't do it anywhere else.
I started watching this thinking about how I've always wanted to have a custom painted helmet, but as the video progressed it just kept getting better. Sam Bass is a name I haven't thought about in a while. That paint rack was sweet. My mom was an art teacher for 30 years, and she would have loved everything about this video (and feigned a blush every time a word was cut). All of her favorite students were the ones who loved making art, and the ones who kept doing it were her greatest reward. If they made a living at it, even better.
My only suggestion, if their art teacher is still with us, make sure he sees this. I'd put cash money on it being the highlight of his day.
Thats awesome man. I do hope the art teacher sees this too. He did a great job.
Some serious handmade crazyness and art here! Knowing the correct order of operations and having the right colors is a huge thing! let alone the actual layouts, hand airbrushing, and beautiful finishes
Very interesting happy New Year looking forward to another year of wonderful material from you guys stay safe God bless👍👍
Keep the great videos coming. You and Logan do a great job interviewing and letting the guests be themselves. I’ve have found so much more content on UA-cam from you guys filming these types of videos. Plus it gets them the recognition they deserve
Thanks man that’s awesome! We appreciate you
Loving the vibe. Its glitter for sure.
Always wondered about the individuals behind the helmets, thank you guys for sharing your craft!
This is the most insane detail most awesome stuff ive seen. To create a process from scratch and make it a phenomenon masterpiece. Wow. Awesome artist.
Awesome video man. Love seeing behind the scenes videos of shops like this.
Bonus footage gang🤟🤟🤟✊✊ and yeah I don't think the younger generation has any clue who Sam was!! I love that they left his desk the way it was that's awesome
Interesting look behind the curtains. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
I freaking love these types of videos when you do them !! And rip to sam bass seen him many times loved that guy !!!
This is awesome! seeing this makes me happy!
Sick video, I love watching people do something their passionate about. You can tell they’re very good at what they do when they compare it to flipping burgers, inspiring stuff to see such craftsmanship
Honest, informative and Life knowledge lessons here...that why i can't wait to watch your videos, keep making us smarter and going behind the scenes of the technology!
That’s what it’s all about!
another great video!!! so cool to see behind the scenes that make racing world go around
That is awesome! He didn't say anything about it, and I would think he would have one, but they make an electronic device that you sit on any color and it will give you the code to produce that exact color. Say you have something that's a certain color and you don't have the paint code, you just sit that device on it and it reads the color and gives you the code that will match it perfectly.
It's great for producing new codes for older paint jobs that have faded over the years and you need to repair and repaint a fender or door and the original paint code won't match up because of the years of fading. Or if you would like a helmet that is the exact color of your Escalade, you just read that color with that device and it will give you the code that matches perfectly. How they invented a device that can do that is beyond me, but it is just cool. lol.
Man that is awesome
Another great video, thank you sir!
Man I am loving these NASCAR videos keep up the good work
What a great video. So fun. It was outstanding I loved it 😎
Sam Bass was a great painter. He will be dearly missed by everyone
as someone who cut their teeth and grew up in a paint booth i absolutely loved this video!!! definitely need more and you need to paint yourself a custom lid
Saw the title and figured these guys would be in Mooresville. Always cool to see the niche companies tied to the racing industry in the area!
Haha these guys are freaking cool. Had a great time watching this. Their shop is incredible.
Thanks man they’re awesome all around lol
That's so neat that they do what they do I always wondered how they were done that is really neat
Thanks man now you know!
Greg is awesome, off axis helmets rock
That Axalta Byron helmet looks amazing and can’t wait to see how the Liberty helmet looks when it’s done.
Such an awesome business!
One of your best vids. Very enlightening!
Thanks man!
Nice bonus footage 👌
So amazing you are so lucky to experience this
Great video! awesome interviewing as always!
might be one of the coolest videos ever. so cool to see how the helmets are done.
Thanks man we are glad you’re here 🤟🏻
Great Video !!! 206 SEATTLE
Fricken epic video man! Defs gotta see y’all try n paint a helmet together! Looks like a blast!!
1:30 love those open face helmets!!
I was never really that good at art but I was really close with my art teacher. I was her T/A for a couple years and she basically made sure I applied myself properly across all classes. Anywho one day i was screwing around in the supply room and found an air brush kit. Was probably 20 years old and broke in a week. Thought well damn, then she showed up with a whole new one for a guy. She's a real g.
I love those “glittery” paints
wow, amazing!
Thank you!
Great stuff brother.... I hope the younger crowd is paying attention...good life stories... The business side of this wonderful...
Definitely like the stories and amazing content. Keep it loving the Nascar stiff
Yes sir!
I miss painting my own RC bodies when I had the time. But now with my current work schedule I have to have somebody paint them.
Legit some sick artwork on his helmets 💯💯
Very cool interview. The details are intense.
Thanks man!!
Full video gang ! Really cool video and insight on a small shop doing big work for big people. Wish I had any teacher like that art teacher. I think you’ll agree.
Kamer was cool but not as cool as this guy sounds 😂
Thank you so much for making this video!
Glad you’re here sir!
Wow this is a great video
Great video!
Greg reminds me alot of Jordan Anderson... That's who I thought it was from the thumbnail. Lol
Do more of this. Great information
We will! Thanks man
Tropical glitz makes such great flakes!!!
Cool Video!
Metal flake , but glitter ✨ sounds better . Love these guys work , need to see about getting a helmet painted.
Ya I got some glitter on the card with my order. first thing I thought was the decorations Logan put up just made me giggle
Hahaha
I’m sorry it gets literally everywhere. Mitchell is banning me from glitter 😂
@@loganerwin42 it's ok
nice to have Iwata to work with, they are a great company!
That's badass that he's got Justin Allgaier's helmets. My dad painted his hauler and trailer back in his ARCA days.
The chrome process is insane. Currently getting my helmet painted by shell shock .
When I was much, much younger I would paint wooden skate boards so I can see how involved painting a helmet would be! I always knew it as Mental Flake but if you are a girl glitter would cover it, now that was funny! Logan you are such a girl, I love it😂😂😂
I spent my career hand lettering (a lot of race cars). Brush lettering, with the occasional airbrushed "high lighting". It always scared me to spray paint helmets. You see, I raced my own cars, then became a racing series inspector with safety as my number one priority. I always felt that paint and solvent fumes getting trapped inside a taped up helmet would break down the materials inside. Now though knowing it was more likely a possible issue years ago, before more modern environment-friendly paints.
I can also relate to the pricing issue when starting out. How can I expect to be paid a living wage for just doing something I have fun doing, that's this easy? Not realizing, if it was "easy", then people wouldn't need me. It was easy for me because that's what I did, and was meant to do. I started when I was 12. Like the saying goes, "Do something you enjoy, and you will never work a day in your life." Unfortunately for me, I never got over that poor sense of value, and didn't make near enough as I could have in the first part of my career. Then I had medical issue that made have to retire at 48 and never built up enough for that early of a retirement. Again, another thing you have to think about when pricing.
I’ve been watching Robby Layton auto body it’s a pretty cool look into a high tech body shop like the ion gun for anti static
Great video again
Thanks man
OG..!! 🤟🏼👍🏻❤️
Great video very interesting
Wow amazing content guys keep it up. Definitely should get a helmet. Maybe have them design a shirt
It's amazing what they do. They are tops in their business. He actually designed a helmet for Hallie Deegan
Great content thanks for sharing
Thanks man
What an amazing video! These guys are bad ASS! I always wished I were artistic. I mean, I can draw flies with my feet...
Pininfarina is a design firm and coach builder. They've done cars for Ferrari, Lancia, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, MG and others, as well as one off cars based on American chassis.
My Mum has a Convertible 2012 Ford Focus that was Designed by Pininfarina here in Australia.
Super rare car these days as they didnt sell many at the time
Came here to say the same! The designed Iwatas LS400's the also designed the new fancy Coke machines!
I'm very familiar with Sam Bass, he was quite a legend at what he did
That is amazing never new who did all the race helmets for indy car and NASCAR. You should do some custom helmets for astronauts and firemen
Great content
Thanks man
Guess we made a cameo is the video! Haha. Great work. Def got a new subscriber.
I don’t know how I never saw this until now... Hopefully you have been satisfied with your choice to subscribe 😂
Bonus footage gang, BFG , checking in. Lol
I actually have a drawing of Dale sr. From Sam bass. But these guys are raw
Interestingly painfully cool
Thanks man
I had no idea who Sam Bass was, had to look it up. I'm 35.
Cool channel. I watch it a lot. I grew up out West around the race scene. My cousin ran a few Busch Series races. Any way I would love to see more of the interview from the painter… We had a n artist out here by the nickname of “Spin” who painted for the Legendary Jack McCoy. (Winston West Champion)
Go Paint a helmet.
He is so talented, Dale Jr did a show with him and it was awesome.
You should buy a new helmet and have him paint it. A true American success story, built on raw talent.
Very cool video. You should go by next door to Cathouse Hollywood to get some coffee.
Pretty awesome video. I am no race car driver, not popular by any means, just a normal guy in California who rides a motorcycle. I wonder how much or if a company like this would even have time for a normal guy like me. I can only imagine how busy they are with the clientele they have this time of year. Awesome video though, thoroughly enjoyed this inside look of how all this happens. I will go with Metal Flake BTW......who needs Glitter, Lol!
Thanks man we’re glad you’re here
