Thanks for posting, the gentleman playing the bongos is my late uncle Johnny Mendoza who passed away on September 1990 of lung cancer. Words cannot express the feelings one gets when these clips are brought back to life. Thanks to You Tube and for JoeWellington for posting these priceless precious memories!
The true measure of this genre of talent becomes delightfully evident when the artist requires little, if any acompanyment! To my mind, very few performers can "cut it" alone, live, out on stage, with so little help! Sadly, we don't get to see or hear enough of this caliber of talent and ability today!
Lynn , I am binge watching Sammy Davis too. My favorite song he died "This guys in love " Wish I could have seen Mr. Davis and Mr Mendoza and all of the band. My absolute favorite of all. Love him and all he did for mankind
Pity Mr Sammy Davis Jr is quite unknown in France, but "West Side Story" is too. World changes, I wish great people such as these -including Mr Johny Mendoza- were not forgotten in France and Europe as well
Thank you for this information, I've been scanning the scene for some facts about him but never got an answer. What a percussionist he was. May he rest in peace...
Sorry for your loss. So, Sammy Davis, Johnny Mendoza, and Sammy's drummer, Michael Silva, all passed on in 1990, within mere months of each other. Heaven must have a nice band with those gentlemen on board. R.I.P. to all.
Words fail! Magnificent and awesome. Does not adequately describe. Sammy and Johnny👍
Once again, we see the Greatest Entertainer at work. The Hollywood of today is lost.

Saludos Fernandito tu primo OM te manda un abrazo desde la distancia.
I don't seem to find a Wikipedia page for Johnny. Is there a source with more info on him?
Crazy speed with his hands. I'm a little surprised Sammy didn't throw in a few taps to compliment it at the end.
After this performance, I ran out and bought a set of bongos and a "learn to play" record.... this is what one would call, true entertainment. Wow!

This is such a treat for me. Been a fan of Sammy Davis Jr.for the longest time. Im binge-watching all his concerts. Thanks for sharing.
Top of the line, singing without music but still sounds perfect
This percussionist is awesome. Damn, there's nothing about him on the World Wide Web...
Sammy was always good, but this bongocero was amazing!
Unbelievable talent by both performers on this clip. Thank you honey !

Juan (Johnny) Mendoza son of Julio Mendoza and Justina Mayorga from Chichigalpa, Nicaragua.
Wow. Beyond compare!!! Both RIP.

If you are aunt Marina son, it means that you are Fernando. Hola, Orlando te saluda desde Managua, Nicaragua.
Wow!
Please post the rest!!!
good
By the way I made a mistake, liver cancer was his undoing, not lung cancer. His sister Marina died of lung cancer a year earlier, she was my Mom.

Holy Crap!
PS the recording from the "Cocoanut Grove" Show (1963) is a little bit better
