Great explanation! This rule book was not easy to understand or navigate when checking rules. They were too focused on making it cute and adding flavor text to clearly explain rules. Your video cleared it all up. Thanks!
Oh my god, what a heavy rule game!!! I lost myself several times trying to explain this game to my friends. This video was incredible helpful! Thank you very much! ☺️
I just loved your video. the little jokes you made were absolutely brilliant. such a difficult game explained in little more than 30 minutes is fantastic. I am looking forward to receiving the game which ended up in a math trade in my collection (swapping Underwater cities for this :) Vlaada game for Vlaada lol)
Excellent tutorial video! Thanks so much for helping our first play be a fun one. 😊 Just fyi, UA-cam has snuck in a bunch of mid-roll adverts. I only mention it because i know you don't usually have them (which i very much appreciate).
Paul, i just watched this through to refresh on the rules a i am teaching the game to 3 new players this evening over skype/boardgamearena. This is such a good game!, fantastic mechanisms , amazing artwork & simply dripping in theme (not brown stuff like Donna always seems to drown fluffy in). Superb rules video, thank you :-)
Dude, you are the best, thanks a ton for this. Also, thanks for the Vlaada rulebook quips, had me genuinely lol'ing, so ya. Why won't this 4year shelf game get to my table? Gah!
Thanks Paul. Have just bought the game, so it is very timely. I like your very clear explanation and your use of graphics to illustrate the rules. makes it all very straight forward. Thanks
Hope it helps. Sit everyone down, watch the video together - quicker than teaching it, and then everyone knows the rules and its not down to one person to remember them all (there's a lot) :)
Thanks for the comment. Now you just need to sit them in front of this video at the start of the session. Yes, its 37 mins, but it will take at least that long to explain the game in person :) Or, they can all watch the vid at home themselves and then they are ready to go as soon as they arrive - although one person normally forgets everything :)
0:57 You can't take a pet with no coins. A single Imp is not enough. 12:13 "Magic Box" comes with a portion of food when you get it from the shop and it is placed in the corner of the borrow not togheter with the other artifacts. Look closely at the animal infront of the box and you will know where to put it. 18:03 Only you have enough food with your addon asuming your yellow card is not also a food need.
After about 20 plays of this great game, I still managed to learn something new from this video :D ... totally missed the fact that you lose reputation for a negative score during the final exhibitions! I guess my usual poop accumulation strategy is somewhat flawed. "sigh" but a hate cleaning cages! It´s so boring :-P
Yep, Vlaada didn't want anyone to say "well, I'm coming last on that one, so I'll just make things as bad as they can be" :) It's not every game where you can have a "poop accumulation strategy" :)
Yes. I think (hope) that is what I said. In the example at 34:41, that is a size 3 pet, so if it ever has 3 or more suffering on it, you lose it. It doesn't "run away" technically, that is done when it gets angry, but you do lose it.
Still no plans I'm afaid, but not ruling it out completely. I need to speak with CGE to see what they want next. And I would probably do it without the digital animations, but not sure.
Paul, did you realize at 18:05 when you discuss the green hunger cards, you had a meat add-on that satisfied the green hunger card? The tutorial comes across such that a player would still need meat to satisfy the green card. Not really the case, in this example.
I'm a big fan of your videos If you don't mind, could you activate subtitle function? I can not understand your speaking very well (I'm a Korean) I really love to know rules of this game Thanks
Sunwaterpark hi. Thanks for your message. The automatic subtitles for this game are actually fairly good. UA-cam picks up my voice quite well. However, with the support of my Patreon campaign I am now paying someone to put proper subtitles on my latest videos, and I may go back and do the older ones eventually, it’s just a matter of cost. Let me know if the automatic subtitles work for you.
@@GamingRulesVideos Thank you for replying quickly! I am used to activate automatic subtitle for watching your videos. But your old videos don't have option for automatic subtitle. I will find a way to understand your speaking. thanks.
Sunwaterpark oh wow. I didn’t know that. I thought auto generated subtitles were on all my videos. How odd. Like I said earlier, I now pay someone to put subtitles on my videos, funded through my Patreon campaign, but it costs, so I need to prioritise, but will add this to the list. Thanks :)
I watched the video and read the rulebook. Fantastic video, and the funniest rulebook I've ever read. My wife thought I was going crazy laughing at a rulebook. Did you also help write the jokes for rulebook?
Your sense of humour must have rubbed off on them, haha :) Now I just have to play the game, and then watch the video again in case I missed something.
I played it last night. Watched the video again, as you suggested a few weeks ago to do for all games, and thank goodness I did. I forgot the artifact rule, that you are supposed to take both of them and not just 1. And I got it wrong that you can never move petz once in a cage. As the video shows, you can in Phase 3. If I did not watch the video again, I might have never known. So thanks again for that tip Paul.
No plans to. But I kinda already did. Before I started up Gaming Rules! I did create a couple of other videos on my private youtube channel. One of which was Mage Knight :)
That's what my video is there for. Seriously, get your friends round, get out the laptop, and put it on the table. This removes all the pressure from you, the teach will be quicker, and you wont miss anything. I've done all the hard work, so that you dont have to :)

Great video, Paul. Really. It tempts me to play the game again right now :)

I have ordered this today I fell in love with this game as soon as I saw the art
Once again your rules explanation makes me want to buy this!
resist the urge!

Superb rules video, thank you :-)
Thanks Paul. I've always been overcomplicating my description of how the platform works and so this was a better way of dealing with that.
It's the trickiest part of the game, and I tried many different ways of explaining it before settling on this one :)
Thank you for wonderful explanations! 🦔
Great refresher before hosting this lovely piece ❤️
Awesome video Paul, going to set up our first gameplay now!
cool. hope it goes ok. Have the video to hand if you need it during the game, but the rulebook is excellent too.
Fantastic job! I have waited to learn this game until there was a decent tut video. Thanks!
Hope it is useful, if you get stuck, just ask!
You must like Vlaad Chvaatil games haha. Another great video.
Personally yes, he's one of my favourite designers.
Dude, you are the best, thanks a ton for this. Also, thanks for the Vlaada rulebook quips, had me genuinely lol'ing, so ya. Why won't this 4year shelf game get to my table? Gah!
It's a complex game no question, but yeah, very enjoyable once you have learnt how to play.
Great tutorial! I would love to see you do one on the expansion, Dark Alleys :)
Thanks Paul. Have just bought the game, so it is very timely. I like your very clear explanation and your use of graphics to illustrate the rules. makes it all very straight forward. Thanks

brilliant - just brilliant !! This game needed this for so long :)
Thanks!
Good job! Dungeon petz isn't a very complicated game, but I find it very difficult to teach to new people.
Good job! That was entertaining and interesting.
Um, not much else to say. Commenting mostly to appease the UA-cam algorithm. :)

Well spotted :) I do explain this in more detail later though. and the money is paid to the bank, it doesn't go on the space.
It’s funny that u made jokes with a very serious face
I'm British :)

I want a Game of the Year Edition. The Dungeon Lords Edition is so great ;)
700th like! Thank you for the tutorial :D
34:30 I don't understand dose it run away when the sadness is the same as the number of cards shown on it?
Yes. I think (hope) that is what I said. In the example at 34:41, that is a size 3 pet, so if it ever has 3 or more suffering on it, you lose it. It doesn't "run away" technically, that is done when it gets angry, but you do lose it.
Great video!
Fantastic, about time :-)
when's Tash Kalar pt 2 coming ;-)
Still no plans I'm afaid, but not ruling it out completely. I need to speak with CGE to see what they want next. And I would probably do it without the digital animations, but not sure.
Quick question: on final round, if i hv 2 imps on the flat form, can i sell 2 pets to 2 customers?
yes
i am waiting for the detail rule to teach me n rethink to buy this again n put in my collection
really cool, thank you ^)
Great tutorial.
Appreciate the comment
great video!!
Thanks. Hope it helped you learn how to play.
it sure did!!
the rulebook was a little hard to read, just couldn't get into it so well, but this was awesome
I subscribed

well spotted. I always put one minor deliberate mistake in the vids to see who is watching and noticing :)
15 Paul Grogan points for you!
I'm a big fan of your videos
If you don't mind, could you activate subtitle function?
I can not understand your speaking very well (I'm a Korean)

I watched the video and read the rulebook. Fantastic video, and the funniest rulebook I've ever read. My wife thought I was going crazy laughing at a rulebook. Did you also help write the jokes for rulebook?
nope. that was Vlaada and Jason Holt. They are amazing.
Your sense of humour must have rubbed off on them, haha :) Now I just have to play the game, and then watch the video again in case I missed something.

Will you attempt explaining how to play Mage Knight? :D
No plans to. But I kinda already did. Before I started up Gaming Rules! I did create a couple of other videos on my private youtube channel. One of which was Mage Knight :)
Amazing video! And holy shit is this game complicated, what have I got myself into?! Teaching this to my friends will be gruelling 😬
That's what my video is there for. Seriously, get your friends round, get out the laptop, and put it on the table.
This removes all the pressure from you, the teach will be quicker, and you wont miss anything.
I've done all the hard work, so that you dont have to :)
Gaming Rules! Absolutely! I have already shared the link ;)
Great!!Thank you!!!
Thankyou for watching, and the comment. Hope it helped.
Why can't the gold go shopping by itself? Because it has no legs.
"See, no legs." Lmao
Oh, so THAT'S why I've been playing this wrong
I have to chop off the legs of my gold.
Of course!
otherwise it runs away!
gold has no legs... got it !
