I'm impressed by the fact that the alarm rings exactly one minute after she sets it.
Nice catch. But due to the slow mo near the end, it likwly ended 1 second early

I think so. But that doesn't mean that last two were bad. Their consept wasn't fighting, so there wasn't this much cool fights. They were meant to be filled with character evolution.

You should look at this for what it is and the amazing things it does in regards to fight choreo instead of comparing. You'll be a lot happier. This fight was extremely well done Monty or not.
@@simplymad6283 I certainly can compare it to Monty because these are fights from the same show. Not if I compare it to Naruto or some other show that would be unfair. Plus if fans complain the company might see it and actually try to invest some money to hire a good choreographer, so it's really a win win situation for both sides. Idk if they can find someone as good as Monty but they certainly can find someone better than this. The goons guys might as well be some punching bag thrown at Maria's way. They barely did anything. Fast paced + crazy camera angle does not equal good fights
So let me get this straight:
Tock’s semblance is “Crocodile”. Basically everything a crocodile has; huge teeth, hard skin, ravenous ferocity and strength. The drawback is that her semblance is crazy limited (hence the ticking alarm clock) and when it’s down she’s vulnerable. That’s why she said at the end “That was a close call...”. It makes sense though since crocodilians have poor stamina and rely on short burst of speed and power to take down their prey but when out of the water they’re sitting ducks. Clever character design
Nah, I beleive she's just a crocodile faunus, hence the scaly skin and sharp teeth. Her Semblance (whatever its name is) just makes her completely invulnerable for 60 seconds once she triggers it but it drains all of her aura in the end. Makes sense as she's based on Tick-Tock the Croc.

Her semblance is not the reason for her Crocodile appearance. She's just a Crocodile Faunus, her Semblance is actually Invulnerability. Makes her invulnerable but for a minute.

Perfect use of power scaling with the Nevermore. RWBY and crew put their all into fighting one and it took the combined killing blow from Weiss and Ruby to decapitate it. Maria is able to redirect the birds flight mid air by over powering something that massive with her weapons ability.

Ooh that slash is eye watering even years on. Like, this croc assassin will probably only exist for like 2 minutes of screen time, but she knows exactly where to make her one opening count. Could've finished the job if not for the proud monologuing too.
And Maria took on a Nevermore, 3 bandits, and a powered up assassin, and sustained just one, unfortunately very severe injury. Thats kind of amazing.
When you realize Tok is based off of the crocodile from Peter Pan, or at least took some inspiration from it.

The fact maria was able to keep up with 3 dudes and an enhanced individual (no clue what tocks semblance is other than super speed for 60 seconds) for 55 seconds is a statement to how amazing of a fighter she was
It was invulnerability I think, meaning she wasn't able to be damaged
I sort of wish we’d gotten more of Tock. Her weapons are literally just swords, no guns or dust, yet she manages to outdo Maria. And there’s her gimmick that I assume is an unbreakable aura for sixty seconds, which is really cool.
You don't need anything more than swords with a semblance that strong. Aura isn't just for defense, it affects offense aswell.
She's not just invincible for 60 seconds, she's unstoppable for 60 seconds.

she was actually in a position where she could do nothing but yeah she could sacrifice an arm or something to be cut instead of the eyes.
Aura off means semblance can't be used.
@@creedjeremy That is not entirely true. Many characters used their semblance without aura, Blake, Raven, Qrow, even Weiss. But yeah it could be an explanation.

I assumed it was because Tock’s time related semblance was so fast, it could negate her reflex semblance since Tock was the only one actually hitting her
I love how they do character they are largely inspired by other characters, and it’sa good base line for inspiration and it’s always interesting how they change the character into their own image. And having the monsters be called grim and the best huntress fighting them called the grim reaper wow

One of the best fights in RWBY and its for a throw away villain and an old lady
I think this is THE best fight scene in volume six. You can really feel the weight in their movements, especially the way Maria swings her scythes.
You know Tock's henchmen aren't dead so it's a miracle Maria managed to run away before they woke up.
I find it enjoyable to superimpose the Tock fight scene with the track 'The Brotherhood Escapes' from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood; same bpm and everything.

I love how they incorporated the ticking of the clock into the music to up the tension.

Really starting to respect how good the animation of this series is and just how much it improved since the pilot.
One of the most powerful yet understated scenes in the RWBY series. I do hope that by the end of the series that Maria gets one more moment of glory. One truly fitting of the 'Grimm Reaper'. 😎👍🌹
This is one of the coolest moments in RWBY! I love the look of the Grimm Reaper and her weapons are just Genius. I love that they use gravity dust to attract each other (I think lol idk really) and how the purple gives such a cool lens flare. I love the blue and purple color scheme, I love the misty setting, and I love the Reaper's fighting style. The clock ticking down as the fight progressed was amazing direction and the way Maria took her down was fantastic. Also the light coming from the mask looks so cool! I wish they would do more with her!!!

I LOVE the ticking of the clock.
This is also in my opinion one of the best animated fights. And by that I mean:
1. The consistency with the time
2. Story wise one of the most haunting battles I'd say. (I still get chills watching it)
and 3. I think this battle sort of "emulated" Monty's style in animating battles the best (sobs)
I'm not an expert on Monty's style of course but my main points as to why it emulates Monty's animation style for fights are:
1. This battle first showed what Maria can do. Like what can her weapons do. Her weapons have gravity dust so she can "levitate" for a bit. What is her fighting style like. And they showed it with the Nevermore. Also Tock said "your last 60 seconds" so this means her semblance has sth to do with time. (and they kept it within the time)
2. The background is always moving. Be it an attack. A charge. And etc. The background is aways moving with the characters movements. Showing weight and some heavy dynamic with their strikes.
(Again I'm not a professional. These are just some things I noticed. Feel free to add more.)
It took me an embarrasingly long time to realize that she set the timer because she could only hold her semblace for a minute... 😓

I think that they may have been. She somehow got this cracks between flashback and present. I also noticed that we never saw her walk she always float. That make me think that her feets may be stone, permamently.
I love the ticking in the background to give the fight more tension

Her 1st & last mistake....turning her back on the Reaper's weapon. But also talking too much to her victim, giving miss Calavera the advantage.
I love how Rooster Teeth gave us the crocodile from Peter Pan complete with ticking clock.
This fight is deff one of the best seance season 3. Maybe top 3 for sure l.
Most probably know but Tock’s power is that she is able to surround herself in super hard aura for a minute effectively making her invulnerable. Whenever Maria hit her during that minute you’d see her get staggered slightly but her scythes couldn’t penetrate. It effectively lets Tock fight as a mad berserker for as long as its active

Brutal and awesome fight! These two deserve the same respect as warriors. A shame for Maria's eyes, those were one hell of a weapon against the Grimm.

So if Faunus (at least to my knowledge) have one specific animal trait and Tock's are her scales, then does that imply that she manually filed down her teeth? Because that would be cool
They look like they're metal, which might be even cooler.
I think it's just up to chance like normal genetics, and on average most end up with only one trait but I think it may vary depending on whether both parents are faunas or only one. The main thing that matters is whether the faunas genes are dominant or recessive, or maybe some traits are stronger than others.

In the newest episode, Maria explains its where she was trying to keep the eyes hidden.

Which she? Tock or Maria? In the case of Maria, it happened pretty fast and she got headbutted pretty hard. In the case of Tock, well, when have you seen a blind person find their dropped weapon?
@@mistressofdreams6031 I think Maria got duped by her own Semblance/preflexes. Essentially, her semblance flagged the moving blades which took her attention away from Tock, as well as biting her weapon and headbutting her being unconventional. You can see Maria's head subtly turn to watch what Tock is doing with her sword rather than watch Tocks face which I think was a smart intentional ploy by Tock as there'd be no other reason to grind weapons in the bind like that. Maria just didn't expect the headbutt and was dazed due to her arua being dropped so was unable to react to the final blow.

@@mistressofdreams6031 Also as Maria was a pretty famous Huntress, probably one of the most famous of her time it's possible Tock knew what her semblance does. Being able to react to something almost before it happens is extremely powerful...as long as you are able to react to it.
In the bind like that Maria's semblane probably told her "Oh they will attack with their sword and a headbutt" and as she couldn't react to both she turned her attention to the biggest threat, tocks swords. Would rather be headbutted than stabbed but ultimately she got dazed and well it didn't matter anyway.
Also her Aura was dropped. We don't know how this effects passive semblances that are always active but with active semblances they are unable to use their semblance once their aura is dropped. It is possible this applies to passive semblances too meaning when her aura dropped her Preflexes were disabled. We'd only know for sure of Rooster Teeth ever confirm if lose of aura effects passive semblances like Maria's Preflexes or Qrow's bad luck semblance.

Only just now realised why she’s called The Grimm Reaper. Very clever.
There really needs to be a RWBY game in the same vein as Devil May Cry focusing on combo’s and stylish moves with a variety of enemies. I mean think about it, a large character roster with interesting abilities and varied weapons, Grimm which in World of Remnant are said to have new species discovered every day (so you wouldn’t have to worry about breaking lore when coming up with new designs), enemy semblances could make interesting boss mechanics, and to top it all off the music could be fucking amazing just like DMC. PS no Grimm Eclipse doesn’t count that’s more like Dynasty Warriors than DMC.
