i think the thing that makes this kinda special is that, opposite to others example of "children show but edgy" is that this short alone shows some sad and heartwarming moments among the darkness and an emotional character arc to boot. it has the potential of being a work of love, something you dont see normally in these kinds of concepts. they just tend to keep doubling down on the edgyness without having actual characters to get attached to. this short shows the possibility of feeling actual emotions other than just "HELL YEAH BLOOD, I LOVE EDGY"
Not to mention elements of nostalgia coming together to make one, big pile of character development, edginess and shows we used to watch come back as one to make an entire show dedicated to those we used to enjoy AS kids. I think nostalgia is a bigger element to the formula.

I agree there's just something that's so sad when pibby saw her own blood and the horrified look of those other characters, its like childhood character seeing the real world and its consequences
also very meta, original, & horrific for a big crossover with nostalgic bases. considering this is being posted by adult swim and is (likely) done professionally, that's a massive rarity. especially for a animated medium lol. as someone above mentioned, it definitely takes more than that to make something good but that alone is (at least) sure to turn some heads. i'm surprised this only has 100,000'ish views right now. this the type of stuff i hope blows up & shows higher-ups that we could use more stuff like this. not even on a crossover/meta level but (as "your friendly friend" mentioned) in writing/execution as well.
I love that all these years later, Adult Swim is still Adult Swim. Messing with every single new generation. I still remember Perfect Hair Forever like it was yesterday.
Also, it's part of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which lives to annoy the viewer. First they microwave kittens, then they show their movie in a thumbnail on the bottom of the screen, and now this. Next year they'll hire people to come to your house, stomp on all the flowers in your lawn, and spray your pets with a hose.
I usually don't like the "cute thing becomes disturbing trope", but I absolutely love this. The main thing that I love about this is that the threat is taken seriously. A lesser show would play up the assimilations for cheap shock value with the whole "Look! Your childhood cartoons died horrifically!" schtick. Here though, that concept is given emotional weight and it becomes the motivation for the main character to take on the threat. It seems like real effort will be made to make this a fully realized actual story. I'm excited to see where this goes! (I wouldn't mind storyboarding for it either...)
This has the potential of being groundbreaking in animation history. Never has a crossover featured over 30 years of beloved characters from multiple different channels! This golden idea has unlimited potential and would have a range of all ages tuning in. Mark my words Adult Swim, green lighting this would be the best decision you could possibly make, and give Dodge a raise for this!!
Despite the Rocko and SpongeBob references, I think they’ll just include Cartoon Network characters and not try to license anything from Nickelodeon. I can’t imagine Paramount agreeing to letting SpongeBob or the Rugrats get killed like this on Adult Swim.

Holy Shit this concept is FUCKING AMAZING. Obviously the idea of mashing different genres together isn't new but it's usually for comedy while this is legitimately horrifying. I also love the main trio. A hero from a world where nothing goes wrong, a sidekick forced to step into the spotlight, and a villain fighting against something far more evil.
All the CN characters in a horror crossover is undeniably cool, but I’m more impressed with how quickly and genuinely they developed the original characters. I was expecting something along the lines of happy tree friends where comedic value comes from the unexpected mutilation of some cutesy kiddie cartoon characters. Instead, the way the animators and voice actors captured emotion here without overdoing it into a spoof is genuinely impressive. The feeling of existential dread they were able to evoke is amazing, please make this a full series!
I want a whole show for this, this deserves its own series. A full on apocalypse horror done in complete seriousness, with the only humor flowing naturally from the story and characters. I want to follow Pibby and her reluctant companions on their downward spiral into this TV show apocalypse hell, learning to do whatever it takes to survive and fight back, and see how she gathers the survivors for one last battle against the approaching darkness.
Meh, I myself didn't really care that much about it to watch, really looked to me like something of the new Powerpuff Girls level of poopoo And also, just, me not being a fan of completely episodic shows
The red water bit is... pretty heartbreaking. She's a character from a TV-Y cartoon that never would've shown it so her losing an eye and bleeding is the last of her innocence going up in smoke.
What really gets me is, instead of a blank or even primal hostility expression usually given to zombies in media, cartoon characters claimed by this glitching mass retain a happy or otherwise smiling expression, but of course hollowed as heck. Definitely makes this a lot scarier than if they had the blank zombie expression. I definitely want to see how this goes and ends and learn the nature behind this glitching mass. A project of this much passion deserves no less than become its own thing so yes please make it an actual series!
I think it’s too be a comment on the way cartoons are being treated now as these hollow vessels of smiles no real story or anything just something mindless for the kids too watch when you want to nap like teen titans go and the power puff girls reboot far from the original in so many ways their just empty and shallow with the only thing remaining is the appearance with a family friendly smile glued on
@@angelpon4351 Yeah that's more or less the kind of smile I felt was on these corrupted characters' faces but couldn't quite put an identifying name on it. Like that generic smile you always see on these characters when they're, like, on the title of their cartoons, or promoting it in things like posters/wallpapers/other medias like magazines, and on generic artwork. The smile you see almost everywhere a lot of the time, like it's the character's default expression when they're not supposed to be harboring any specific emotion. Smile without feeling or mind. So I'm low-key tempted to describe it as the "customer service smile" equivalent of cartoons. Listen I really don't know how else to name this kind of feeling those specific smiles gave me ok lmao.
Not to mention surviving heroes from SU, Adventure Time, Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Amazing World of Gumball, and others I can't name... Jesus christ

The black sludge is basically Smash. It's an eldritch abomination that absorbs game franchises into its biomass and leaves them all a soulless, lifeless husk, all of them sabotaged forever just for the sake of a bit of profit.
Man the potential with this is so massive. Just thinking about concepts that this show could explore gets me exited. Like imagine if each episode starts in a new world and the whole point is surviving until the credits just to be thrown in a new world and watch each one get destroyed by whatever this thing is
I think the villain here is cancelation because think about all these shows that we use to watched are either canceled or there show is over because of the final episode so what everyone fears is their show being canceled so this is the story cartoons fighting against being canceled
There's so much interesting character growth pibby could have. Like, Does she know what pain is? Or fear, dread, depression, anxiety, stress, all those very negative things she might... Learn about during the series. The scene where Fred Flintstone slides to his doom is really the kinda direction i think this will go. All these whimsical characters that are used to whimsical "dangers", that are not really dangers, are suddenly thrown into a situation that dangers their whole existence
Not to mention the characters that had to actually face world ending, planet destroying dangers like Finn and Jake, Amethyst, Mordecai etc. facing this Hunger looking thing and ultimately failing to defend themselves or eachother.

One scene I find particularly interesting (and horrifying) is the “What is this red water? I’ve never seen it before” scene. How since Pibby lived in a kids show her universe was never exposed to anything violent. I also really like how they’re actually creating a story out of this instead of just making it completely edgy, like “kids show bad let’s make it bloody and scary LOL”. Really creative ideas, I like how it looks so far!
That's what I really love about this. This doesn't seem edgy for the sake of being edgy or even really looking down on kidss shows. There's a sincerity that's apparent in the trailer. It really feels like the people behind this have a story to tell and this is the premise they're using to tell it.

@@GameyGaming Thats not what I meant. Happy tree friend and this both are horror using the juxtaposition of the cute visuals and the graphic content to enhance the content. This could have very easily been exactly the same as happy tree friends but it has a distinct feel.
It's not even the crossovers or nostalgia that I'm most excited for; it's the fact that it looks like they're actually trying to tell a heartfelt story with emotional moments and developed characters that has me looking forward to seeing the show green lit. I've been hungry for more mature adult animation ever since I watched Primal, and I feel like this might just be what I've been looking for. This hasn't even been green lit yet, and I'm already excited to watch it.
Not greenlighting this show is the biggest mistake WB and Cartoon Network has ever made. They literally struck gold with this and just completely dropped the ball
They "struck gold" by making a video appealing to children, and then attracting millions of children. They never "dropped the ball", you just listened to all the children assuming it was going to be a series, without taking a few seconds to understand that it was all an April Fools joke, and now you got yourself all bummed out. It's also just genuinely a really bad idea for a series. It would teach children literally nothing, and scare some of them off Cartoon Network in the process. They wouldn't even make any more money than they made off ad revenue from this video, most of you don't have cable so you'd probably just watch clips of it on UA-cam anyways.
It's not WB's fault, thanks to David Zaslav, they had no choice but to not greenlight the show because Zaslav's a selfish little greedbag (that's right, the show wasn't cancelled, they just didn't greenlight it), oh and did I forget to mention that Zaslav's not the only person disrespecting animation, sometimes (but not always) netflix does that too by cancelling the interactive and non-interactive cartoons to make room for new shows.
The way the glitch makes the characters go all distorted is fucking terrifying holy shit. And the slowed version of Pibby’s theme song is absolute nightmare fuel. I can’t wait to see the whole show.

1:04 even though he’s corrupted, it is so like Jake to fashion himself a little robe from the glitches. I feel like the characters retain little bits of their personality even if they get corrupted, like Finn and Jake staying together, or Mordecai and Gumball on the poster. There’s even more examples like the Scooby gang staying together, bugs bunny walking funny like he normally would, and everybody smiling but the last one might be an effect of the glitch.
Seriously. A sidekick, a villain, and a (fleetingly) naive mascot having to save their worlds from mutated cartoon characters is such a unique concept, I'm dying
I love how Pibby develops as the videos goes on, starting by not even knowing what blood is to eventually become the brave leader of a bloody war against an unstoppable evil force, which is reflected physically by her hair changing, and also ties into the theme of lost innocence. Just like the cartoons lost their innocence to become horrific monsters, Pibby must lose her innocence so she can defeat them. This two minutes long little trailer has better character development than most full series out there XD

So many of these "old cartoons but edgy" things go fo the route of breaking the characters just for the sake of it to try and hammer home the pointlessness of life, but Pibby doesn't give up, she LEARNS, and ADAPTS, and influences those around her to do the same and become stronger versions of themselves to defend each other. That's what it's all about tbh
Not sure how everyone is missing the point on why the show is officially dead, so I’m going to tell everyone why. 1. The multiple uses of existing IPs, although CN and [AS] are owned by WB, it also featured IPs that isn’t owned by the company, like the SpongeBob mirror, the Rocko’s Modern Life background and other stuff. Plus it will be a huge pain getting everyone that worked on the stuff they do own to get them to agree to do this. 2. Budget. If this was greenlit for a series, the amount of money spend on this will be atrocious! If they are going to showcase lots of characters in their world, they gonna need more money to make this stuff, including the voice acting for those characters, the darkness invading the worlds, and many others. Especially if it were to showcase Gumball’s world, their world uses multiple art styles, that different studios worked on, and multiple characters voiced by a whole bunch of people. And all this other stuff that makes money for this challenging. 3. Time constraints, and production efficiency. Like an essay you have to write for your English class, your favorite shows and movies have a deadline they have to meet for each episode or film. This can severely limit on stuff they can do, like the story, what goes on the episodes, etc. And with glitchy blobs of mess, mixed with multiple art styles and animation styles, there is definitely more than one studio that’s going to be working on this. And with all of the work being transferred to studio to studio so they can do their part really cuts down on efficiency of production. Even if it is split between studios, it still won’t be efficient, as all of this will have to come together as one product. And this can ultimately cause them to miss the deadline way pass it’s due date. That is really all there is, sorry that this comment is so long. I have to make sure people can get it why it is not moving further, and also explain it in detail.
I just wanna appreciate how they make the characters look identical to the original. Like, that requires a lot of artists and work. I don't care how long it takes since it's hard to animate all this but if this gets cancelled I'll rage.
Normally I'd hate this, "Oh no, kid cartoons but blood, laugh" but this one genuinely feels like a passion project made with effort and love, I'd like more of it

I noticed that in one scene, Buttercup from Powerpuff Girls is shown ready to charge into battle, but the thumbnail shows her corrupted. So... calling it now, she is killed off at some point.
"What's that red water? I've never seen that before." Is incredibly sad, she's from a Y-TV preschool learning cartoon so she has never been hurt before.
A modern one at that. So it's been "episode" after "episode" of squeaky clean happy fun learning times without so much as a bruise at most. Next thing she knows everything's falling apart, friends are dead for the first time, and the entire concept of injury is being experienced first hand with a bloody eye slashed out.
Reminds me of a series called Re.Creators. where characters from different anime Manga and game genre and universes are pulled into the real world and the magical girl character is shocked when her powers cause collateral damage and hurt people

I was actually just hurt inside watching it. My thought is that since it's his first sword we can assume that it's early Finn, not the OP Finn from later seasons. Maybe that's why he lost
I feel like the antagonist would be Bun Bun if this became a show, but assimilated into something similar to Halo's Flood, where there are many forms, but one form is its "brain" for the Hivemind, or rather the "Gravemind"
I always thought it was called the “grave mine” and the “don’t strike a deal with the grave mine” line I heard from JT music’s villain rap including The Flood was a great line that could have been in the games if it wasn’t. Meaning don’t make a deal with someone who can benefit from you failing. Like how you don’t make a life threatening deal with someone who’s job is to dig graves.
supposedly corrupted BunBun is the intended antagonist, according to some leaked info about the characters, seems like it uses him as something of a vessel and uses that to antagonise Pibby

Have you guys noticed how Cartoon Network loves to do these massive crossovers? Their classic bumpers had all their characters together, and they’d make animations with everyone for anniversaries? The three main crossovers, to my knowledge, are Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion, Billy and Mandy/Kids Next Door, and Crossover Nexus. Who else has realized Pibby is the natural next step and penultimate crossover event? Like Brawl’s own Subspace Emissary?
I swear, if they're just doing this to make whatever the fuck that black glitch thing is the final boss of Multiversus, I'm gonna... ...not do anything, because the idea of fighting that thing gives off major Master Core vibes and Master Core is freaking awesome.
Pibby is perfect. They already got a huge fanbase. I believe nostalgia that turns into creepiness is the most perfect thing that was possible and it was excecuted flawlessly.

The way pibby has to grow up in such a short amount of time is so sad. The sidekick and the villan cat lady have some knowledge on villans/active threats but pibby has been living in a world full of colour and fun, no stress, no sadness, no losses and then all of a sudden, boom all her friends are (presumably) dead and her world has been ravaged. If this show actually becomes a thing (which is very likely) then im all here for it.
I love that this is basically like... an adult cartoon made directly for those who grew up with these characters and are now adults, and it's actually stemming from the setting of an unrelated toddler cartoon. This is actually genius and i really hope this becomes a reality and they actually do well with it.
Greenlight this, PLEASE! The concept of this Preschool character being warped into this hellish nightmare and being forced to adapt to it. That is SO unique and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before!
The only thing I know that's similar is _The Promise Neverland_. Even without the crossover characters, this kind of story is amazing: the least expected heroes. I hope that Cartoon Network creates this series!

Watching this trailer makes me realize I don’t think we’ve ever had a mainstream Cartoon or TV Show that’s tackled Meta concepts in a Dark or Serious way like this… we’ve seen it used for humor or brief jabs into existential horror again as a gag but never full on Horror like this is attempting. It still has its visual jokes yeah but the tone feels like it does want to take this concept seriously. It can either turn out so so and just give us some neat visuals, be as ridiculous as stuff like “Too Many Cooks” (a short that ran with the Meta concept of Sitcom Openings but for laughs give or take some of its own uses of horror), or it can actually tell a genuine story and if it chooses the latter… I’m very excited about that!

They were not screwing around with this at all, the premise is phenomenal and something the cartoon world NEEDS! The iconic cartoon cameos let alone the fact they present this character in a fittingly badass way that goes beyond shock value is SO GOOD! The blow up is deserved of, Adult Swim just hit a goldmine with this one
I think what makes this show even more disturbing is that it includes characters from popular TV shows, which is a really nice touch and adds to how horrifying this is since we have fond memories of those shows

I usually don't like the "cute thing becomes disturbing trope", but I absolutely love this.
The main thing that I love about this is that the threat is taken seriously. A lesser show would play up the assimilations for cheap shock value with the whole "Look! Your childhood cartoons died horrifically!" schtick.
Here though, that concept is given emotional weight and it becomes the motivation for the main character to take on the threat. It seems like real effort will be made to make this a fully realized actual story.

Holy Shit this concept is FUCKING AMAZING. Obviously the idea of mashing different genres together isn't new but it's usually for comedy while this is legitimately horrifying. I also love the main trio. A hero from a world where nothing goes wrong, a sidekick forced to step into the spotlight, and a villain fighting against something far more evil.

All the CN characters in a horror crossover is undeniably cool, but I’m more impressed with how quickly and genuinely they developed the original characters. I was expecting something along the lines of happy tree friends where comedic value comes from the unexpected mutilation of some cutesy kiddie cartoon characters. Instead, the way the animators and voice actors captured emotion here without overdoing it into a spoof is genuinely impressive. The feeling of existential dread they were able to evoke is amazing, please make this a full series!

Like that generic smile you always see on these characters when they're, like, on the title of their cartoons, or promoting it in things like posters/wallpapers/other medias like magazines, and on generic artwork. The smile you see almost everywhere a lot of the time, like it's the character's default expression when they're not supposed to be harboring any specific emotion. Smile without feeling or mind. So I'm low-key tempted to describe it as the "customer service smile" equivalent of cartoons.

The scene where Fred Flintstone slides to his doom is really the kinda direction i think this will go. All these whimsical characters that are used to whimsical "dangers", that are not really dangers, are suddenly thrown into a situation that dangers their whole existence

One scene I find particularly interesting (and horrifying) is the “What is this red water? I’ve never seen it before” scene. How since Pibby lived in a kids show her universe was never exposed to anything violent.
I also really like how they’re actually creating a story out of this instead of just making it completely edgy, like “kids show bad let’s make it bloody and scary LOL”. Really creative ideas, I like how it looks so far!

They "struck gold" by making a video appealing to children, and then attracting millions of children. They never "dropped the ball", you just listened to all the children assuming it was going to be a series, without taking a few seconds to understand that it was all an April Fools joke, and now you got yourself all bummed out. It's also just genuinely a really bad idea for a series. It would teach children literally nothing, and scare some of them off Cartoon Network in the process. They wouldn't even make any more money than they made off ad revenue from this video, most of you don't have cable so you'd probably just watch clips of it on UA-cam anyways.

I have known Pibby for barely a minute-and-a-half and I already feel so heartbroken at her (further) shattered innocence
I love how Pibby develops as the videos goes on, starting by not even knowing what blood is to eventually become the brave leader of a bloody war against an unstoppable evil force, which is reflected physically by her hair changing, and also ties into the theme of lost innocence. Just like the cartoons lost their innocence to become horrific monsters, Pibby must lose her innocence so she can defeat them.

So many of these "old cartoons but edgy" things go fo the route of breaking the characters just for the sake of it to try and hammer home the pointlessness of life, but Pibby doesn't give up, she LEARNS, and ADAPTS, and influences those around her to do the same and become stronger versions of themselves to defend each other. That's what it's all about tbh
Not sure how everyone is missing the point on why the show is officially dead, so I’m going to tell everyone why.
1. The multiple uses of existing IPs, although CN and [AS] are owned by WB, it also featured IPs that isn’t owned by the company, like the SpongeBob mirror, the Rocko’s Modern Life background and other stuff. Plus it will be a huge pain getting everyone that worked on the stuff they do own to get them to agree to do this.
2. Budget. If this was greenlit for a series, the amount of money spend on this will be atrocious! If they are going to showcase lots of characters in their world, they gonna need more money to make this stuff, including the voice acting for those characters, the darkness invading the worlds, and many others. Especially if it were to showcase Gumball’s world, their world uses multiple art styles, that different studios worked on, and multiple characters voiced by a whole bunch of people. And all this other stuff that makes money for this challenging.
3. Time constraints, and production efficiency. Like an essay you have to write for your English class, your favorite shows and movies have a deadline they have to meet for each episode or film. This can severely limit on stuff they can do, like the story, what goes on the episodes, etc. And with glitchy blobs of mess, mixed with multiple art styles and animation styles, there is definitely more than one studio that’s going to be working on this. And with all of the work being transferred to studio to studio so they can do their part really cuts down on efficiency of production. Even if it is split between studios, it still won’t be efficient, as all of this will have to come together as one product. And this can ultimately cause them to miss the deadline way pass it’s due date.
That is really all there is, sorry that this comment is so long. I have to make sure people can get it why it is not moving further, and also explain it in detail.

Is incredibly sad, she's from a Y-TV preschool learning cartoon so she has never been hurt before.
A modern one at that. So it's been "episode" after "episode" of squeaky clean happy fun learning times without so much as a bruise at most. Next thing she knows everything's falling apart, friends are dead for the first time, and the entire concept of injury is being experienced first hand with a bloody eye slashed out.

I feel like the antagonist would be Bun Bun if this became a show, but assimilated into something similar to Halo's Flood, where there are many forms, but one form is its "brain" for the Hivemind, or rather the "Gravemind"
I always thought it was called the “grave mine” and the “don’t strike a deal with the grave mine” line I heard from JT music’s villain rap including The Flood was a great line that could have been in the games if it wasn’t. Meaning don’t make a deal with someone who can benefit from you failing. Like how you don’t make a life threatening deal with someone who’s job is to dig graves.
supposedly corrupted BunBun is the intended antagonist, according to some leaked info about the characters, seems like it uses him as something of a vessel and uses that to antagonise Pibby

The three main crossovers, to my knowledge, are Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion, Billy and Mandy/Kids Next Door, and Crossover Nexus.

The way pibby has to grow up in such a short amount of time is so sad. The sidekick and the villan cat lady have some knowledge on villans/active threats but pibby has been living in a world full of colour and fun, no stress, no sadness, no losses and then all of a sudden, boom all her friends are (presumably) dead and her world has been ravaged. If this show actually becomes a thing (which is very likely) then im all here for it.

I love that this is basically like... an adult cartoon made directly for those who grew up with these characters and are now adults, and it's actually stemming from the setting of an unrelated toddler cartoon. Greenlight this, PLEASE! The concept of this Preschool character being warped into this hellish nightmare and being forced to adapt to it. That is SO unique and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before!
This would be insanely cool and creative even if it didn’t have so many characters that I love, the crossovers just adds another amazing layer!
The only thing I know that's similar is _The Promise Neverland_. Even without the crossover characters, this kind of story is amazing: the least expected heroes. I hope that Cartoon Network creates this series!

Watching this trailer makes me realize I don’t think we’ve ever had a mainstream Cartoon or TV Show that’s tackled Meta concepts in a Dark or Serious way like this… we’ve seen it used for humor or brief jabs into existential horror again as a gag but never full on Horror like this is attempting. It still has its visual jokes yeah but the tone feels like it does want to take this concept seriously.
It can either turn out so so and just give us some neat visuals, be as ridiculous as stuff like “Too Many Cooks” (a short that ran with the Meta concept of Sitcom Openings but for laughs give or take some of its own uses of horror), or it can actually tell a genuine story and if it chooses the latter… I’m very excited about that!

They were not screwing around with this at all, the premise is phenomenal and something the cartoon world NEEDS! The iconic cartoon cameos let alone the fact they present this character in a fittingly badass way that goes beyond shock value is SO GOOD! The blow up is deserved of, Adult Swim just hit a goldmine with this one
