The more I learn about this process, the more nuanced and important that last one becomes. Different yeasts have different needs, both regarding their nutrient requirements and their ideal fermentation temps (which can be more specific than the range they reliably ferment at). I'm definitely still learning. I might never stop doing so. Great stuff, MMM.
1 : Do not bottle in the same room that the kitty litter is. This was my first batch mistake, it came out with a greenish foam mold on top. Had to throw out. The air can carry contaminates. 4:05 A refractometer can tell you, both methods are better tough. A gravity reading + refractometer can give you redundancy and self-error checking.
Thank you so much , i learn alot from your channels I need your advice in yeast nutrient , I have fermax and “nutrient DAP” And also yeast energizer I put the fermax from the bigning all the dose And the energizer 48h later But i found there is signefecant drop in the bubbling of the airlock !! I made another one with no energizer , only fermax and it went well .. i am confused now , And i get afraid of using the energizer again ! By the way i am using k116 yeast and my og is 1.120 not more than that And i always reach around 1.020 after 20 days !? I think it should be less than that !! Is it my energizer !?
That K1-V1116 should be getting your through your total gravity. So you're saying that it never gets below 1.020? Can you give me the recipe you used for your brew? I am wondering if your hydrometer is a cheaper one (sometimes they can be inaccurate).
Man Made Mead may be inaccurate but for sure it’s not a cheap one 😅 My recipe : 4 k of natural hunny “a very pricy one in our country” 8 L water Orange peel around 8 peaces Hand full raisins And one stick cinamon As i told you my starting G was 1.120 With k116 3 tsp of fermax I didnt add energizer And yesterday i check the current G was 1.018 exactly After 22 days By the way the bubbls stoped around day 6 I decide to give more one week then i wll rack it I sow your youtube about yeast nutrints and you mention somthing about a podcast wich was all about yeast nutrints !? Can u help me with that or if you will do a new yuotube about nutrients in more details i will be grateful Thank you again for every thing you teaches me 🌹
I have a mead going right now 3 green apples to a half gallon, the other half gallon I've kept traditional. Besides freezing the apples multiple times, how can I increase that tasty green apple flavor?
I'd suggest measuring fruit by weight, even in small batches. Apples vary greatly in size, and density. If the mead isn't tart enough, the you can try adding more acid (malic acid, for apples). as mentioned, you can add more apples in secondary, and you can try waiting until after it has stabilized, so as not to ferment the additions. Also make sure that the sweetness of the finished mead is at an appropriate level for the fruit. Too sweet and it won't taste like green apple, too tart and it will probably taste like a Jolly Rancher.
I have a question you might not have been asked before. I put my hydrometer in the tube with must and it won't sink down to the calibration. It floats too high. Too much sugar? Not enough? I think I have made most of the mistakes you can do making mead.
There's a huge change that you're putting too much sugar into the brew which would raise the gravity to be higher than your hydrometer can handle! You might try to add some water (I know that seems like a sin) to bring down the gravity. If the gravity is too high your yeast will be mega stressed and either not ferment or have a poor fermentation that yields a bad result!

I totally agree! I am definitely still learning about yeasts needs because they are quite the finicky creature!
Appreciate the refresher coarse.
I'm glad I can help!
Good advice. Thanks.
youve done amazing with this channel
Thank you so much!

RIGHT!? My kitties ar allowed to sniff around my primary' they are very interested in the bubbler. They are sequestered, however upon secondary day.
🤢
Great video and very helpful!

Adding fruit in secondary will help a lot with flavor.
I'd suggest measuring fruit by weight, even in small batches. Apples vary greatly in size, and density.

@@Vykk_Draygo I never knew that about sweetness, I'll definitely keep that in mind now.
I would definitely add some more green apples in the secondary. That always helps to boost the flavor!

@@ManMadeMead Thanks!
Here's a good one. Can you use too much yeast?
You can but you really have to go overboard!
