I was lucky enough to give a drop to this great person (even physically he was a huge person) on my Chetak scooter way back in mid 80's in Dharwad, as he was a good friend of my grand father. He had come to meet my grandpa.....!!!!! Of course, to be very honest, at that time, I just didn't know who this person was, but had heard his name among names of various singers. But in due course of time, I could listen to many of his songs on Dharwad Radio.
In the Bijapur 1980 I was working in udaya daily newspaper at that time Hukkeri Balappa was came to his Daughter s house so many times. It is proud to me most popular person and senior man with smilingly speaking with people.
@sudhir911 This is not Dr. Bendre song. This is by Dr. Betageri Krishnasharma known as Anandakanda. The unfortunate thing is, even though he was one of the greatest poets, people think that his works are of Dr.Bendres (no offence on Dr.Bendre.).
great! In front of Dr D R Bendre every other poet looks mediocre-including Ravindranath Tagore or Kuvempu. He is greatest poet after Shakespear. Jnanapeeth award is a small recognition to him.
