Exactly!! I bake every weekend. Cookies, bundt cakes, brownies, coffee cakes. Visit any weight loss subreddit and you'll find those people who have to measure out the exact amount of peanut butter for a sandwich. They weigh it out sometimes as well
One serving of peanut butter is two tablespoons. If you have become accustomed to overly large portions then it may take time and practice to eyeball a serving, so you would measure it.
Did anyone else rage when James had the 1/2 teaspoon measurement in the sugar dispenser and said "What if I want 1 teaspon?" then just squeeze the handle a 2nd time! 2 half teaspoons equals 1 teaspoon!
Fair point, but what if I had the 1 teaspoon inside and wanted 1/2? There's no way to half press and you would have to switch anyway, and if you were using the 1/4 that's 4 presses for 1 and a lot more if you need more than 1 teaspoon but don't want to switch the measurement piece, it's a mess overall, as he said, it had to be a dial
@@ohioknifelover If you are using cups of sugar at once, youd have to refill the dispenser... So that's clearly not its intended use. The point of the dispenser is for quick measured small amounts, like for your cup of coffee or tea or adding a small amount of sweetness to a recipe. If youre making a gallon of lemonade, then you just bring out an actual measuring cup since youll be using a ton of sugar.

RSVP makes a great set of spoons that is not as flat as the weird folding ones, but they're pretty compact and solid stainless steel. The sugar one, you don't have to change the measurement, you just have to leave the 1/4 in and four squeezes is a teaspoon. Looks like it could be made better, but I'm tempted because i use a teaspoon of sugar in tea.

@@ww11gunny Exactly what I was thinking. Or on the table for a couple who likes to have coffee or tea...but not who has a 3 year old around😖 That switching business is for the birds
My MO is to have several sets of cheap measuring spoons handy, because as soon as I get one dirty, I toss it in the sink and get another one that is the same size to measure out the next ingredient. Who wants to take the time to keep cleaning the same measuring device again and again while you're putting one recipe together?
I always start with the dry ingredients, then the liquid or oil, molasses or honey after that, the oil helps the sticky liquids flow out. Still have multi sets though, dollar store ones work as good as expensive ones.
8:58 I’d never spread with these BUT I would certainly use the breakdown feature to get the peanut butter out of the measuring cup. You ever tried to remove peanut butter from a cup if you need a specific amount? Forget it! This is about the only use you’d ever have with this tool. lol
Note that for the sugar dispenser, if you have the half-teaspoon attachment on and you need a full teaspoon of sugar, just press the button twice. No need to change attachments.
I prefer the rounded spoons because I can scoop a Tbs. of cookie dough for even sizing with minimal shaping. Don't think I would even need this if I already have some, anyway. Might come in handy for camping, though.
My mother is too unsteady to measure the sugar for her coffee in the morning. Sugar gets everywhere, so my dad or I do it for her... Pressing a single button over her mug would be way easier. Could potentially also be used for her coffee grounds, depending on what crystal size would fit through it. The dream of not having to get up at 5:30 in the morning to make my mother's coffee is alive.
I actually can see some purpose in it. It's not a measuring tool but supposed to be on the tea or coffee table to dose the sugar into your cup. Like those retro style glass sugar dispensers with a stainless steel pourer.
Ha ha, James, that was one of your most entertaining review videos. The “spoons“ are really a no go, but the joke was the sugar dispenser, OMG! A major redesign is definitely called for.
Those flat pack spoons have been around forever for ultralight backpacking. I tried one and tossed it. About the only 2 good things it done was be light and fold flat. It sucked for being a spoon. The company also made flat pack plates and bowls. The plates were a bit better but I still wasn't a huge fan. Never tried the bowl. All mine were old and used snaps instead of magnets.
I’m waiting for you to start selling T-shirts that say “It’s CHAOS in here! Chaos!!” With Freaking Reviews logo. My husband and I are now using that phrase to crack each other up.
Interesting gadgets. I wouldn't use either one though because they are cheaply made and don't work smoothly. I would say some improvements for the "spoon" is stronger magnets, and give it a ridged spine so it won't bend at least as much. As for the sugar dispenser, it is a nice idea, but I would say make it with glass and metal parts, make the amounts adjustable with a knob or a slider. I think part of the problem was some of the sugar was stopping you from making the change. They could have even made it so that instead of changing the piece inside, they could have put a slider to change how far the button that releases the sugar depresses.
The lid on the sugar dispenser is significantly easier to open if you grab from the sides without the tabs. I use that same model for adding sugar to my coffee, and it has worked flawlessly for me for over 2 years now. Granted, I have literally never changed the measured amount since I first used it.
I’m going to go against the flow and say that I would 100% use that sugar dispenser if I took my coffee with sugar every day (I use liquid sucralose drops, though). It saves you from opening your sugar container, dipping a spoon into the sugar container, moving the spoon over your cup, dumping the sugar in your cup (then back to the sugar container and repeat however many times), and putting the lid back on your sugar container. With the dispenser, all you do is click, click, click over your cup.
I have Polygons (I didn't know about the KS thing! I got mine as a gift) and I find them useful for gooey but not super stiff substances -- it's very easy to scrape mayo/honey/ketchup off a flat surface and get it all.
My goodness!! I'm stressing out just watching you mess with that sugar dispenser. Everything would get a half teaspoon of sugar cause I'd never change it. And the spoons would be fun to play with. They would make a good fidget toy.😊
I think I would like that measuring spoon. I'm always having to dig in the drawer for the specific measuring spoon. I like the all in one thing. I'm diabetic so I do measure 1 TBSP of peanutbutter for a half sandwich because I'm rather strict about counting carbs. It looks like the flattened spoon would be easy to scrape off w/ a spreading knife.
I don't like to comment usually, but seeing as how someone else gave a critique, I thought I'd share mine, on this video specifically. I kinda feel like he was extra critical of the sugar dispenser. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind when he's giving his criticism on the product, but I felt like he started hating it way before the actual test.
I'm pretty sure that sugar dispenser is supposed to sit on your breakfast table and when you drink coffee or tea, you just shoosh a teaspoon into your cup. It's not a measuring device for cooking.
That's what I think it works best for, as well. If you're in the habit of using a teaspoonful of sugar in coffee every morning, then that's the way to go. If I were to use it, I'd set it to half a teaspoon and forget about it. Every time I need a measure it's one or two clicks and I'm good. However, there ultimately still is the need for a stirrer.
Here's a crazy idea for that second tool. Instead of swapping out the 1/2 tsp piece for the 1 tsp piece....... just click the 1/2 tsp twice. Wild, right?!
Not sure if there is a Crappiest Product of the Year, but if so, that sugar dispenser has gotta be a contender. Old timey diner sugar dispenser for us thanks. 6 decades now with nary a problem.
If the price is decent, I’d use the sugar dispenser on the dining room table, but not the kitchen. I’d leave it with the teaspoon setting, so I could just use it for coffee or maybe oatmeal. If you want just a little more, maybe a half squeeze or the “pinch” dispenser. I curious if it might also come in other colors and also work with coffee creamer or salt.
A Mainstays food scale costs $10-$15 at Walmart, and it's surprisingly quick and accurate. It's way more versatile and useful than these Polygons garbage.
It’s funny you mentioned how you thought the traditional measuring spoons would last “forever”. They look almost like the old set at the care home kitchen I used to work at. Problem I had when I first tried to find a 1/3 tsp. was that the white paint showing the spoon measurement had worn off, so it just looked like a set of round red spoons and the matching measuring cup had the same problem. Some experienced cooks might be able to recognize the sizes, but you still risk accuracy. That can be bad for baking which can be a real science. I now keep a bag of my own kitchen tools with cups and spoons where the measurements are embossed or engraved on the spoons. A co-worker had her own multi-colored set and had memorized which color was which, though the paint seemed sturdier on hers.
for the flat spoon, even though it's flimsy for spreading, it seems to have merit for ingredients like peanut butter where you would measure out 2 tbsp but need to scrape out a normal measuring spoon with a spoon, fingers etc., here just scrape along the side of a mixing bowl
To be fair, I was making peanut butter chicken/Thai peanut chicken, and it took forever with different utensils to get it out. The first tool would help a lot
Testing that sugar dispenser gave you the perfect opportunity to test a vacuum as well. 😅 It seems like you'll need to have one on hand every time you want to change out the measurements. I can't see you using either of these products long term. They both feel like more of a hassle than anything.
The polygon one is probably made for people who are planning to take that when they go camping or what have you you know survivalist types because they don't need to take up any storage room with it.
2nd tool is a prime candidate for a 3d printed extension that both locks the device, stores que bits and tries to salvage that accessible-flawed design. I'm sure someone more clever than me could even build the mechanism to rotate as you want
I could see a lightweight-foldable utensil being useful for backpackers - some of them will take any sacrifice to save weight and space. But that thing still looks heavier than the typical titanium spork.
The sugar dispenser might be good for regular coffee or tea drinkers who just want a consistent amount of sugar in their morning caffeine. Other than that, a version 2.0 that can dial in an amount to dispense is definitely needed.
I had a similar sugar thing I used for tea and I noticed that the steam from the tea makes the bottom of the dispenser becomes a wet sticky mess. It has been barely used for 15 years but it is a designer thingie and I don’t want to throw it away
Lol the measuring spoons like teaspoons seem to vanish in my house ergo it being stuck to fridge to me seems a great idea just a quick wash before useing😊
If you fold it up like you e going meassure out something. that would give you some stiffer support to keep the thing from bending. On the sugar thing goes, I would just keep the small one in the unit and just push the lever how many times I need to get what I want.
If I were using that sugar dispenser, I'd use the smallest measurement and just dispense multiple times until I got the amount I wanted. I'd throw the rest of the measuring things away. I'd never want to change that thing.
I ordered from a kickstarter, they eventually went into production, sold mainstream and after a couple of years went out of business. Im still waiting for my order😅
I think the sugar dispenser could be helpful for certain disabilities. That said, I'd leave it at whatever the lowest setting was, and then just count. Like, leave it at 1/2 teaspoon, and if I need a whole teaspoon, I'll just press the button twice.

The sugar dispenser is stupid as more than likely you're adding sugar to coffee, in which case you're going to need a spoon to stir in any case.
Over-engineered with cheap parts. A winning combination
never laughed at a gadget review before 😂 that second one is a mess lmao
2nd tool is a prime candidate for a 3d printed extension that both locks the device, stores que bits and tries to salvage that accessible-flawed design. I'm sure someone more clever than me could even build the mechanism to rotate as you want
That product was designed by Boing 😂. You really make me laugh
I want the sugar dispenser - SO useful chéz-moi!
And after I use my flat measuring spoons to scoop sugar into my coffee or tea, I can use my finger to stir so I don't mess up a spoon!
The sugar dispenser had me laughing.
I thing the sugar dispenser is fine if you need to serve lots of one measurements, maybe a coffee shop or a bakery need something like that.
Coffee shops have ready sugar packets. No baker would ever use either of these gadgets. 😀
I have the sugar dispenser. Put in 1/4 tsp, press it twice , you have a half tsp. press it 4 times you have 1 tsp. No need to keep changing the parts.
If you fold it up like you
e going meassure out something. that would give you some stiffer support to keep the thing from bending. On the sugar thing goes, I would just keep the small one in the unit and just push the lever how many times I need to get what I want.
You needed a Def Leppard song playing along for this one
Not finished watching it yet but I already have a headache from the sugar dispenser. I wanted it so much to work could use it for salt too
I think ill get the dispenser for my mom as an xmas present, she keeps sugar in an airtight container to scoop out of so it could be useful.
MORE SOLUTIONS FOR PROBLEMS THAT NEVER EXISTED.
If I were using that sugar dispenser, I'd use the smallest measurement and just dispense multiple times until I got the amount I wanted. I'd throw the rest of the measuring things away. I'd never want to change that thing.
Being able to remove all of the measured peanut butter from the device is great! Especially for a diabetic.
I ordered from a kickstarter, they eventually went into production, sold mainstream and after a couple of years went out of business. Im still waiting for my order😅
The fails are the best lol
That sugar dispenser is something else.
Jacob two-two strikes hard in this one 😂
I think the sugar dispenser could be helpful for certain disabilities. That said, I'd leave it at whatever the lowest setting was, and then just count. Like, leave it at 1/2 teaspoon, and if I need a whole teaspoon, I'll just press the button twice.
