    About the Speaker
    A globally renowned Marxian economist and political commentator, Prof Prabhat Patnaik is Professor Emeritus at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning in the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. He was the vice-chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board from June 2006 to May 2011. His specialization is macroeconomics and political economy, areas in which he has written several books and articles. He is the editor of the journal Social Scientist. He was part of a four-member high-power task force of the United Nations (U.N.) chaired by Joseph Stiglitz to recommend reform measures for the global financial system.
    Kerala Economic Association (KEA) is a professional organisation that endeavours to provide a common platform for students, researchers, teachers, administrators, industrialists and others who are interested in the disciplinary domain of economics in general and the dynamics of the regional economy of Kerala in particular.
    Inter University Centre for Alternative Economics (IUCAE), Department of Economics, University of Kerala, promotes research and studies in alternative economics which would address the problems of the economy and society beyond the neo-classical mainstream ideas.
