You noticed already that there were several versions of WOODZ in the MV, and two most notable the “librarian” and the one in the dark “abyss” dungeon. The librarian: surrounded by stories, conducting music by himself, in a room with many locks on the door, but many of them unlocked. While other characters have crystal balls, the librarian has a crystal leaf - he’s WOODZ, the music maker. Other characters bring him the crystal balls (coming from their hearts). He trades them for a package. So in my view, librarian WOODZ is taking stories (from other people, from his other selves) and packaging them up to send into the world as songs. But the librarian stays hidden away, alone. Essentially, the song is saying you’ll never understand me, you can’t really know me, because I’m afraid to let you in. “It’s ok if you want a lot. I’ll let you have it all. I just have one request. Please don’t try to know me in every way.” He’s ok with a one-sided love, where he does all the giving, if it doesn’t require him to be vulnerable. I think the personal story is that CSY has fears/wounds/stories that pushed him into a comfort zone so “safe” that it’s an empty, lonely, dark abyss-but now he’s coming to recognize it as an abyss of his own making. Just from watching reaction videos, I know a lot of fans find the closing lines of the song really sad: “You know what, more than anything, I must love myself less.” But I am 100% that those are the most hopeful lines in the song. Of course they are sung as dungeon-CSY gets on his feet and walks out of the abyss, and just before he drops two crystal-ball-stories, one and then another. My take: needing to “love himself less” means NOT trying to keep himself so safe, not nursing the old wounds, letting go of the past. The road to freedom. Most of the locks are undone already…
This is important to him, it's his 1st song as an artist under EDAM. Woodz filmed the MV in France and ABYSS is a pre-release of his 5th mini album. The lyrics can be interpreted in many ways, I feel like he is talking about the artist's POV in the idol-fan relationship. "Does it feel good to just look at me?" "Don't try too hard for me, just stay as you are, it's faster for me to give up on myself than for you to understand me" "Even if you don't truly know me, it's okay, I don't expect you to understand me". I'm excited for his new album, he's still working on it. Woodz mentioned that Edam doesn't put pressure on him so he can do things more calmly lol, and also his first world tour was announced. This new Era will be HUGE!!!🔥🔥
I watched the behind in making the MV and WOODZ talked about the fears he has as a song writer each time he releases something new and how it will be received by everyone including fans. So that is what I take away from the lyrics. That we may not like the new thing he does (WOODZ is known for trying new things) and if we don't like it will we leave him as fans. I think that must be hard as an artist. I can't wait for the album to come out as they are always non-skip for me.
i think the fact that the guitar riff in the chorus is mixed with his own distorted vocal line is really melodic thank you so much for reacting to woodz, he's such an amazing artist and he always amazes me with the way he conveys emotions with his music and MVs

You should react to X1-FLASH mv. This was the kpop group Woodz was in and he raps in this song also hits high notes it’s so good. LOVE ME HARDER by WOODZ is also a must watch. I cant believe you havent reacted to this one yet
I wanted to make sure you know, WOODZ new mini-album OO-LI will drop Apr. 26. Interesting that you said this track was more sustained, less tightly controlled than previous songs you’ve heard. As it happens, the two versions of OO-LI are the “free” version and the “control” version. So hmmm. I hope you can sneak in another WOODZ reaction or two before the new album. In addition to Regulus Fox suggestions in this thread, which are all valid and will mostly be noticeably different from things you’ve heard so far, I would add some B-side choices: Touché, Rebound, Sour Candy.
