As someone who hated and still does hate most FPS games it was the rare time they created one for me that I liked. Incredible experience. I liked Hunters on the DS too.
I'll never forget seeing Mario 64 at ToysRus a couple months before release. It blew my mind how it was 3d, but felt like the 2d games. It made games like Tomb Raider feel ancient and almost unplayable, just after a few minutes with M64.

The very first time I saw one it literally blew my little kid mind. My mom had brought me along to her friend’s son’s birthday party and they were very well-off financially. Excellent stuff, SLX. And I'm really looking forward to the next episode! I definitely still remember my experience with Mario 64. The thing that sticks in my mind is just how easy it was to pick up and play. I mean, here's a series that almost defined the 2D experience, and yet, in 3D, it was seamless and so well done that there was basically no adjustment period. You could just play it. Nintendo knew how important it was to get their main franchises correct in the new three dimensional frontier, and they certainly nailed it just about perfectly.
never too late to go back and enjoy the games, SEGA was a fitting rival for Nintendo as Nintendo stuck to their guns while SEGA dared to take risks. when Nintendo focused on the kids, SEGA sought out the teenagers. that was part of what made SEGA stand out, Nintendo was like what you bought your kid for Christmas, but SEGA was like what you bought your kid so he could look cool to his peers. the "Genesis Does What NintenDON'T" campaign was the most successful marketing campaign they ever had.
@SegaLordX Yeah, man, I just recently bought into the sega saturn ecosystem because of your channel I've been watching for over 3 years now. I finally got a saturn and found one locally on offer up. It was a bundle that came with 2 controllers 9 games, mostly sports titles except for Virtual Fighter 2 and Virtual Cop and Sonic 3D Blast. But man, is the sega saturn expensive to collect for, but I definitely want that decAthelete and Winter Heat.
Frankly, I preferred when Rayman was in 2D, and welcomed its more recent redirection back into 2D, starting with Rayman Origins. 3D is not automatically better.
When it comes to individual titles; for being the first mainline 3D attempt to actually see the day of light, Kirby and the Forgotten Land was a solid first landing. It makes the cancellation of the 3D project for GCN all the more understandable.
It was ok. I actually preferred Allies & no I don't care that a bunch of journalists & youtubers hated it. I prefer Allie's larger Kirby Superstar movesets over Forgotten Land's small, very limited moveset. Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Solid & Ninja Gaiden were the best transitions into 3d because they actually took the extra dimensions to build a game experience that's completely different from their 2d counterparts.

Is it really 3d though? It’s still a 2d style Kirby game in a 3d world, basically like how super Mario 3d world was. I’ll still say we haven’t truly got a full 3d Kirby game yet
You simply can't have a list like this without a lot of N64 games. Despite sales differential I still feel like Nintendo dominated that generation in terms of quality games and moving the industry forward into 3D.
Your videos are so much fun. I love how everything you cover is drawn from a wealth of history and knowledge of video games. This is another wonderful example. Thank you for all of your hard work. ❤❤❤❤
Glad to see I've got a couple of games on the list, but really there could be more. The Strike Series made the jump from 2D to 3D with Urban to Soviet Strike. Also, I moved Strider from 2D to 3D in 2014.
Over the last year I have picked up a copy every strike game. They are truly great games. The transition to 3d was incredibly smooth. The video cut scenes were also awesome to see at the time.
I was hoping you'd include Shining Force 3! I remember how excited I was that day when I bought it...I remembered being so impressed with the 3d graphics, and the fact you could still explore the towns was amazing to me! I still own it to this day.
For me Nintendo is still the benchmark when it comes to 3D platformers, Racing and RPG and it’s their accessibility that is a major reason why they’re still around today and why I have my first Nintendo system for a long time since the Wii, I’d say out of all these games featured here I’m only really familiar with OutRun and the 3 Nintendo classics, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and especially Super Mario 64 which the recent Mario games such as Super Mario 3D land, 3D World and Mario Odyssey, all classics that owe their existence to Super Mario 64. Also Grand Theft Auto is another great example of a game that successfully made the jump 3D with Vice City being my favourite in the series on PS2 and you’re right, the GTA series was a major factor in the success of the PS2.
A big one you missed was Final Fantasy. 6 is amazing but the fact that Final Fantasy 7 was so popular worldwide is a phenomenon in itself. Looking at it now it’s not too pretty but when it came out, holy moly it was unreal that we were playing Final Fantasy in 3D!! 😂😎
I considered VII, but when you consider the majority of that was 2D backdrops, it really isn't all that impressive. I like the battle visuals, but the prerendered stuff makes up a major part of that experience.
I'll say Sonic Adventure was a good translation from 2D to 3D gameplay if we count Sonic campaign alone. The game nowdays is not that great (I liked a lot still though) but the core gameplay transitioned well, even Knuckles gameplay works in Adventure 1.
Just bought it on Ebay for the PS2 because of this video. I had no idea it existed for the PS2, I knew it existed on the Wii, but I don't own or even like the Wii. Guess I'll be dusting off my PS2 and plugging it in soon. Great video! @@SegaLordX
LoK is one of my all time favorite series. Blood Omen already was great but Soul Reaver was something else... it still has some of the best writing and voice acting ever put in a game.
Mario 64 was an absolute miracle for the time. To get 3d platforming so perfect on the first iteration before there was anything else to use as a template shouldn't have been possible.
It was expected because it’s Nintendo who doe what everyone else can’t, get things right first time and notice how Nintendo’s one of the few if not the only one who doesn’t have buggy games at launch and for me Mario 64 was when Mario overtook Sonic and Sonic has never truly recovered, apart from Sonic Mania where as Mario has had banger after banger while Sonic had gone from leader to also ran in the span of 20 years, which is embarrassing. It’s official Mario is better than Sonic, I still love Sonic but I have never cared for his 3D games and Mario simply does 3ad games better than its competitors, Ratchet and Clank, Rayman and all the other overrated 3D platformer like Spyro wnd even Sonic Adventure over their existence to Super Mario 64.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 oh yeah? did nintendo get stereoscopic 3d right the first time with virtual boy? how well did that work out for nintendo doing everything right the first time? how much 3rd party support did nintendo lose by going with cartridges and not CD's with the N64? @@Adamtendo_player_1 I don't understand why people like you pretend Sonic died once he went 3D. If anything, the Sonic series is as popular as ever. Sonic Adventure was well received at the time of it's launch, it's the DX remake that gives it a bad rep. Sonic Mania wasn't the monumental success you think it is, Frontiers outsold it in months. And 2D Sonic games were released between 1994-2017, just look at the Advance or Rush games.
@@andarilho_31 I was around for Sonic Adventure's release and it was certainly not well received. At least not as well received as Mario 64 was, not even close.
@@Boogie_the_cat virtual boy was Nintendo only real failure may be along with the will Yeah hello Wii look on your The Wii U, but Sega has had more failures than Nintendo by a wide margin, it was Nintendo that saved Bayonetta because of Sega’s screw ups, look I’m a Sega fan but I realistic one that’s not got rose tinted glasses on, for me Sonic died when Sega released Sonic Adventure, Sonic Frontiers is another mediocre Sonic game like Sonic Heroes, Boom, Sonic Genesis which is a shameful embarrassment for Sonic’s 15th Anniversary, I could go on about Sega screwing up their IPs with mediocre games, but you get my point, Nintendo’s not perfect either but I have liked every Nintendo game I’ve played, even the much maligned New Super Mario Bros is better than the worst Sonic games and I adore New Super Mario Bros, I’m hard on Sega because they had it all and messed it up.
The Shining Force III trilogy is indeed a masterpiece, Shining the Holy Ark also made the jump to 3D earlier and it's also fantastic. True, the GTA series defined the 6th generation. As for Road Rash, I agree the PC has the smoothest performance, followed by the Saturn, but if possible, I'd suggest trying the 3DO original using Retroarch, as it allows setting the CPU to 200%, the game runs smooth as butter and it's the most polished version.
For as many games that made the transition to 3d that were amazing, one thing I HATED about the 3d boom was the attitude that EVERYTHING had to be 3d. Not every game is improved by adding another dimension. For every Mario and Zelda that worked very well in 3d, there was a Sonic or Castlevania that lost so much charm and excitement when making the transition. Admittedly Sonic and Castlevania have their fans and sonic in particular is getting better in 3d, but the road hasn’t been a smooth one. I am glad that 2d games are going through a revival as of late.
Good presentation Sega Lord X, and fine selection of games. I hated 3D for a while in the 90s because it sucked, but some games did succeed (eventually) in the 3D polygonal world.
it's easy to look at it that way, because it was so different and some game companies used the trend to sell absolute garbage. change is never easy and the transition from 2D to 3D is something many of which took time to digest, and for others to never accept it at all.
Had to beat Outrun 2 three times yesterday to hear the 3 classic Outrun tunes. I don't bother with the newer tunes. Never beat it on Master System though.
Playstation 2 success was never tied to the DVD player. Even here on Brazil, any DVD player was a way cheaper then a PS2. All well succeeded console were due to good games.
It wasn't tied exclusively to being a DVD player but that feature helped. When the console first came out, DVD players were still somewhat expensive. The lure of the PS2 was that it also played great games as well as DVDs. A parent in the store with the choice to buy a console that also played DVDs (PS2) vs one that didn't (Dreamcast, GameCube) factored in to the purchase decision. The PS2 was my main DVD movie player for a long time. I never bought a standalone unit to replace it.
@@lazarushernandez5827 No one will decide to get a console to play games because it was a media player. PSP was amazing at media capabilities, but lost to DS. PS3 was capable of play Blu-ray, but lost to Wii. SegaCD could play music and few media CDs. You bought a PS2 because you wanted PS2 games.
@@rael_gc That isn't my argument or point. I said the ability to play DVDs was an added factor in the purchase of the console. IE people were able to get the console and the DVD player in one buy with the PS2. It is a factor, not the most important but a factor nonetheless. Did you ever watch DVDs on your PS2? You probably did. It wasn't the main reason for your purchase, but you used the feature. Sony was interested in pushing their media formats: DVD with the PS2 and Bluray with the PS3. These were consoles first, but the secondary purpose was there as well.
Recently completed Pacman World Re-pac (this week) and it was an absolute pleasure. Such a gem, I enjoyed every second of it. Lots of nostalgia thrown in and they did the remaster complete justice 👌🏻👏🏻
Re-Pac is one of the few recent remakes of 90s video games that I’d say surpass the original in every way along with the PS4 remake of MediEvil (which even includes the original PS1 game as an unlockable for 100% completion). The Crash N. Sane Trilogy is great, but I still prefer the original Crash 2 and Warped overall.
It’s almost criminal how unappreciated the Rygard series is, when the ps2 3d one show up I took my at the time company "sickness leave time" to play through it. It was a really nice surprise cause when that one show up the 2d was as forgotten as the 3d is today
Can’t argue with this list. I’m sure some could because the internet is a cesspool but for my money, this video is ON the money. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Mario 64 is motion. Jaw to the floor. Nice shout out to Legacy of Kain too. Those games were a formative experience for me
Sega is the reason most of us watch this channel. Similar to how most people expect Nintendo games at SNESdrunk. This vid has plenty of Sega related content anyway. If anything I'd be pissed had he not included Ninja Gaiden & Metroid Prime.
@HereticalHydra I'm not denying that and I do watch it for the Sega content. That said I like that he's gone off the Sega content occasionally and even videos like this are good too.
Great video. There's a few times were I've had my mind blown seeing video games one was the first time I saw Ridge Racer and Tekken around 1994, bear in mind Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter II were still popular arcade games at the time. It wasn't just the 3D, it was also the speed and action replays. Then seeing Mario 64 on an in-store demo, seemed like a huge evolution in 3D platforming and the Mario franchise. I had bought a PS1 the year before and wasn't sure I made the right decision, we now know the PS1 library had on average a bigger choice and better games, although the N64 does have a few of the best games of all time.
Love your material! I didn't even know there was Ninja Gaiden 3D!! By seeing the wall running and jumping, it made realize you could have mentioned an oooold classic one that also did an outstanding 2D to 3D transition: Prince of Persia ❤
When I was watching the game playing footage of outrun 2 all I kept thinking is how it looked very similar to crazy taxi on dream cast from the way the numbers on screen where drawn to the feel and look of the city around you. Where the made using the same engine
Nice job on this video, was interesting to watch. I would have considered Street Fighter, Punch Out, Excitebike, Marvel vs Capcom and Maximo too. The worst I'd say are probably the Sega Ages games, MK Gold, Battletoads, the Neo Geo 64 fighters, Metal Slug, Blaster Master, Earthworm Jim, Dragon's Lair and Bubsy.
I noticed Sonic wasn't included here and for good reason although Sonic Adventure has aged well in comparison to later Sonic 3D games that have done poorly. Great video and great quality as always, i've always said that you make television look like paint drying or grass growing. Dude I got some good ideas for future episodes for ya. 1. Warner Bros & The Sega Genesis = An episode where you go over all the games on the system that had the Looney Tunes characters in them. (Taz-Mania/Taz In Escape From Mars/Bugs Bunny Double Trouble/Sylvester & Tweety Cagey Capers/Speedy Gonzales Cheese Catastrophe and that Road Runner and Wylie Coyote game. 2. Toaplan & The Sega Genesis = A video where you go over all of the Toaplan shooters and other games from the now defunct company on the system. I don't think you've done this yet. 3. Just generally would love to see you review more obscure games from the Mega Drive/Genesis and other systems as long as they don't show Streets of Rage, the Shinobi games, Castlevania Bloodlines or Batman Returns, those games seem to pop up far too much in your videos.
Posting this comment before I watch the video. In this order; Mario 64, GTA III, OoT and MGS. If Sonic Adventure is on the list, it's a load of crock. Even at the time of release, people were complaining about the camera, the controls, the clunky gameplay...
Excellent video, SLX. There are so many games that made successful jumps from 2D to 3D. A couple that came to my mind that weren't in your list were Bomberman and Prince of Persia. Bomberman 64 was a great 3D adventure that got to be tough as nails towards the end. Prince of Persia Sands of Time was, I thought, mind blowing at the time with fun combat, parkour/platforming, and, of course, the ability to rewind time.
@@SegaLordX You are right! I stand corrected. I just watched a video on PoP 3D and, man, does it look rough, to say the least. Maybe it'll be in your next video.
I recently played Metroid Prime Remastered on the Switch and I think the 2D ones are way better. There was stuff in Prime I absolutely despised, particularly how the entire game world was poorly connected and required way too much lengthy backtracking through the same areas over and over again. The 2D ones have some backtracking but Metroid Prime's world is way slower and less fun to maneuver through. The space pirates are also some of the most annoying enemies I've ever dealt with in a game, and then when I got to the Omega Pirate boss fight I had enough and shelved the game with no intention of picking it up again.
I haven’t played any of the Metroid games but from what I’ve seen of Metroid Prime Remastered it looks incredibly gorgeous and I’m getting it for my Switch that I recently bought.
That's because Metroid Prime was almost getting to be like an FPS game, but without the shooting stuff and still follows the formula. It does differently than what Halo or Call if Duty in terms of there gameplay perspective. And yeah. Prime has it's backtracking moments. All Metroid games have. But if u know exactly where to go & best way to get or travel, than u can cut the backtracking parts no problem. Speedrunners shows alot of stuff u can do. The game has alot of replay values that u can find ways to make the length of the game shorter than your first playthrough.
Good list! Growing up in the '90s and early '00s was absolutely exciting! The jump to 3D was quite revolutionary! I played many of the games on this list and was just blown away at how some of my favorites turned out in a 3D environment. Yes, some have aged better than others now, but if you can look past some of the past game limitations and design, a lot of these games still can be a lot of fun! Also, Pac-Man World was good, but I'd argue *Pac-Man World 2* was even better! They gave the game more polish, made it fully 3D, and gave it an incredibly underrated soundtrack! The only thing is, don't go for 100% on every level unless you like to torture yourself. It's brutal. Trust me. I really hope Sega Lord X's next list of bad 2D to 3D series *doesn't* include Castlevania. I actually really enjoyed Castlevania Legacy of Darkness on the N64. I mean, yeah, it's no Symphony of the Night, but it is a pretty decent game that can be a lot of fun! It brought Castlevania action to a 3D environment quite well!
Mario and Legend of Zelda did the transition to 3D RIGHT. The same can't be said for Sonic. I tried to play Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes and both games had shitty camera issues out the ass. Sega should have kept Sonic 2D. Maybe gone 2.5D at most.
Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time was an excellent transition to 3D and pretty much laid the foundations for that generation's 3D Platform Adventure Genre. Cool video, cheers.
Unfortunately I don't think that would count as there was Prince of Persia 3D before they rebooted with the SoT and the fact that many either don't know about it or forget it exists tells you all you need to know! 😅
@@lilhanhan The terrible sequels to The Sands of Time ruined the greatness of that game, and the franchise pretty much ended there. Not everyone likes every game and that's the way it should be, the group herd mentality's opinion should never sway someone's own opinion and enjoyment of a game. The Prince of Persia franchise wasn't run into the ground like numerous others we could all mention with mindless sequels every year, and for that i'm glad. Surely a modern remake is on the cards? Cheers.
That Rygar game you mentioned is literally the entire reason the God of War franchise exists, i'm not even joking look at the footage of that game in progress, that character is Kratos!
2:55 nobody seems to talk about this; the soundtrack here is "Rick's Raga." Yes, the (RIP) musician who had a good hit song, "Party All the Time" featuring Eddie Murphy.
I always wondered what Mario 64 would have been like if the N64 had a CD-ROM. I feel like in comparison the cartridge would have felt like a tech demo compared to the extra content they could have had on a CD
Without enough RAM, it may not have had quite as seamless open world levels as cart, as the large environments would require loading assets off a slow spinning CD -- so the level design may have changed to accommodate that (with tunnels and roundabouts to mask the CD asset streaming).

I would like to make the case for the Fall Out series move to a 3D open world. It made everything so much more immersive.
GTA going from top dwn view to 3d was amazing at the time
I never had sega but man your videos are awesome. I like how you expand to different consoles.
never too late to go back and enjoy the games, SEGA was a fitting rival for Nintendo as Nintendo stuck to their guns while SEGA dared to take risks. when Nintendo focused on the kids, SEGA sought out the teenagers. that was part of what made SEGA stand out, Nintendo was like what you bought your kid for Christmas, but SEGA was like what you bought your kid so he could look cool to his peers.
the "Genesis Does What NintenDON'T" campaign was the most successful marketing campaign they ever had.
Sega lord x is the best retro gaming reviewer on UA-cam, period
Thank you. I appreciate that.
@SegaLordX
Yeah, man, I just recently bought into the sega saturn ecosystem because of your channel I've been watching for over 3 years now.
@@lldjslimdefinitely get yourself one of the flash carts so you can try games on the hardware before you buy.
After burner climax is such a sick game 🔥
One of Sega's best revivals.
Very true. It'd be nice if they ported it to more systems, or better yet make a follow up.
Frankly, I preferred when Rayman was in 2D, and welcomed its more recent redirection back into 2D, starting with Rayman Origins.
3D is not automatically better.
Great list. I would add Wave Race. From a top-down gameboy game to the N64 version with mind-blowing water physics few games attempt even today.

Mario, Zelda and Mario Kart. The trilogy of Nintendo games that have stuck with me from their very beginnings.
One of my picks is the recent Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It took forever for Kirby to actually have a 3D game, but the wait was worth it.
Is it really 3d though? It’s still a 2d style Kirby game in a 3d world, basically like how super Mario 3d world was. I’ll still say we haven’t truly got a full 3d Kirby game yet
@@stevesteve0521it’s definitely fully 3D. PAC man world is another game made just like that, like super Mario 3D world.

You simply can't have a list like this without a lot of N64 games. Despite sales differential I still feel like Nintendo dominated that generation in terms of quality games and moving the industry forward into 3D.
There's also Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, Dragon Quest, and Ace Combat.
Your videos are so much fun. I love how everything you cover is drawn from a wealth of history and knowledge of video games. This is another wonderful example. Thank you for all of your hard work. ❤❤❤❤
Your videos are ALWAYS top quality! But, more importantly, they make me want to PLAY the games! Thank you for that!
@@captainsigismund6449 Thanks. I'm glad you are having fun with them. Maybe one day, I'll do another one.
Glad you liked Pac-Man World! I was one of the designers on the opening pirate levels.
its always nice to start the day out with some coffee, exercise, and a Sega Lord X video!
Awesome stuff!
As soon as I read the title I thought "Ninja Gaiden" because to me, this is an example of perfect conversion to 3D ... +1 for including it!
I was hoping you'd include Shining Force 3! I remember how excited I was that day when I bought it...I remembered being so impressed with the 3d graphics, and the fact you could still explore the towns was amazing to me! I still own it to this day.
I have all 4 disks
To me was a disappointment, I prefer 1 and 2, the third one was just OK it lacks a lot of the things that made the series great.
@@SegaLordX that’s a really good point that I hadn’t considered! Thanks for the response! 😁
Ecco the dolphin also improved in its transition to 3d, I love the 16 bits versions, but Ecco Defender of the Future on Dreamcast is amazing.
I'll say Sonic Adventure was a good translation from 2D to 3D gameplay if we count Sonic campaign alone. The game nowdays is not that great (I liked a lot still though) but the core gameplay transitioned well, even Knuckles gameplay works in Adventure 1.
That Rygar 3D game had insanely satisfying sound effects.. mm I liked those attacks!
That was God of War before God of War lol
I liked Rygar PS2 a lot. Very underrated and forgotten game.
I agree. A real surprise.
Just bought it on Ebay for the PS2 because of this video. I had no idea it existed for the PS2, I knew it existed on the Wii, but I don't own or even like the Wii. Guess I'll be dusting off my PS2 and plugging it in soon. Great video! @@SegaLordX
Man GTA3, I played that game so much. I haven't played it in 20 years and I still knew exactly where you were in the clips of gameplay.
You make me so hype for Sega! Even if Nintendo was my childhood lol. I've since been an avid Saturn collector.
The Saturn sells itself. It's an easy gig telling folks about it.

The Wii U, but Sega has had more failures than Nintendo by a wide margin, it was Nintendo that saved Bayonetta because of Sega’s screw ups, look I’m a Sega fan but I realistic one that’s not got rose tinted glasses on, for me Sonic died when Sega released Sonic Adventure, Sonic Frontiers is another mediocre Sonic game like Sonic Heroes, Boom, Sonic Genesis which is a shameful embarrassment for Sonic’s 15th Anniversary, I could go on about Sega screwing up their IPs with mediocre games, but you get my point, Nintendo’s not perfect either but I have liked every Nintendo game I’ve played, even the much maligned New Super Mario Bros is better than the worst Sonic games and I adore New Super Mario Bros, I’m hard on Sega because they had it all and messed it up.

Just when I thought sega lord was would eventually run out of ideas for content, you come up with another great episode.
That PS2 Rygar game was incredible.
So glad I’ve found your channel I’m a big fan of your work. Keep them coming 🔥
Thank you! Will do!

Great video like always SLX. I loved that you covered Rygar for the PS2 because that game was AWESOME. Hope you decide to do a review of it one day.
@@Logan912 So true, MediEvil was a masterpiece!! 👌🏻👏🏻
It’s almost criminal how unappreciated the Rygard series is, when the ps2 3d one show up I took my at the time company "sickness leave time" to play through it. It was a really nice surprise cause when that one show up the 2d was as forgotten as the 3d is today
Man that Soul Reaver Music gave me chills. What I would give for an new Game or Remake!
Some of the worst was when point n click adventures had to adapt to the change to 3D in the early days.
Can’t argue with this list. I’m sure some could because the internet is a cesspool but for my money, this video is ON the money. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Mario 64 is motion. Jaw to the floor. Nice shout out to Legacy of Kain too. Those games were a formative experience for me
Been a fan of the channel for quite some time. Really love the presentation and the content. Don't just always focus on Sega games
Kirby better be on here. His transition to 3D was quite recent but it was one of the best
What a great channel
Would have shown "Legacy of Kane: Blood Omen 2" instead of Soul Reaver. That felt more like a true sequel to me. But great video
Goeman made the transition very well.
Love your material! I didn't even know there was Ninja Gaiden 3D!! By seeing the wall running and jumping, it made realize you could have mentioned an oooold classic one that also did an outstanding 2D to 3D transition: Prince of Persia ❤
prince of persia ended up on the worst 2D to 3D transition video lol
@@jclkaytwo I didn't even KNOW that particular version even existed! I only knew the Ubisoft versions and the older 2D versions.
Thing is, Sands of Time wasn't Prince of Persia's first jump to 3D.
I've never played it, only Metroid Dread, but I feel Zelda is better and less confusing and frustrating in 2D.
Man! Nice mini documentary - perfect. Thank you ♥
The Outrun was news for me
You put this out and my DCDigital modded Dreamcast just got back today. I may have to try out Rayman 3D.

@@lilhanhan
The terrible sequels to The Sands of Time ruined the greatness of that game, and the franchise pretty much ended there.
Cheers.

That Rygar game you mentioned is literally the entire reason the God of War franchise exists, i'm not even joking look at the footage of that game in progress, that character is Kratos!
it wasnt just the polygons, it was also the switch from moving in a 2d space to a 3d space.
I wouldn't compare Rygar to God of War too much because it came out first. A better comparison is a Greek Mythology Onimusha.
Great video! Miss some games like SF2, Final Fantasy, tought...

2:55 nobody seems to talk about this; the soundtrack here is "Rick's Raga." Yes, the (RIP) musician who had a good hit song, "Party All the Time" featuring Eddie Murphy.
I wonder if there were games that started 3d but then 2d.
Yep…. Contra gonna be all over the worst list. Nice foreshadowing!
@@griffgames9538 good point, I'm guessing the load times would have sucked as well
