I've seen a lot of footage of sharks in Myrtle Beach and I've seen some get pretty close to some people! Glad the odds of getting bit are extremely rare! Thx for the minute! 😃
The largest Tiger shark caught by an angler (at that time) was caught at Cherry Grove Pier in 1964 (~1800 lbs). The record was broken in 2004 by a fisherman in Australia.
A friend of mine who fishes year round was fishing from the State Park Pier this past July 2020, and hooked a small Hammerhead shark .... while reeling it in it was hit by a BIG Bull Shark, who took the entire 3 foot hammerhead off his hook .... as mentioned below, stay away from the piers, but the sharks don't just hang out at the piers of course.... he said the Bull looked to be 8 feet long
I watched Jaws on a rainy day at Myrtle Beach as a kid. Then saw a fin the next day while playing in the water. I think I ran across the top of the water to get out.
I was there one time when a guy got a shark bite one time. The guy got bit in the leg if I remember correctly and then they took everybody out of the water and as I was walking out I almost stepped on it. There was ems, police, and those lifeguard trucks you see drive by. It was actually kinda of funny to watch the people walk back in the water afterwards because they would go in and then run out, go in a little deeper and run back out. After a while they just stayed in the water.
Bull Sharks have been known for attacks on humans. On June 14, 2015, a 16 year old boy lost his arm in a bull shark attack in Oak Island, NC. Would it freak anybody out if I said that in some cases, Bull Sharks are considered more dangerous than Great Whites? This is, unfortunately, true. But when a shark attack does happen, it is often a case of mistaken identity. Some sharks' eyesight isn't really that good, and from below the surface, a surfer on a surfboard or a swimmer can look like something a shark normally eats like a sea turtle or a seal. A shark may attack a person and not mean to. Sometimes, a shark may take a "test bite" out of a human and realize by taste that it is not its usual prey and it swims off. Sharks aren't as dangerous as some people often portray them to be!
piers don't matter. I live here and born here. There is sharks everywhere, There is a 16ft 3,465lbs great white lurking around this area for years. She has been seen as close as 30yrds from shore.

I used to surf in front of The Dunes Club in the 1970's ...sharks were swimming between me and the beach several times.
You've forgotten to mention the Tiger sharks, Hammerhead sharks and Great White sharks that live here too.

If you really want to see a shark in Myrtle Beach, go fishing for anything but a shark
