    My dad met one of my sister's date's at the door. Big smile on his face, just beaming happily at this kid. He reached out a grabbed this boy and just hugged close then all at once kissed him on the mouth. The boy broke loose and was wiping his mouth when my dad told him "Just remember son, I have no problem doing to you anything you can think of doing to my daughter". And just so you know my dad was 6'4" tall and about 265lbs. My sister tells that story even today, and swears that the boy wouldn't even hold her hand, and there was no second date.

      I always had to be leery of the brothers. If the perceived need arose, they would have an easier time finding you out in town, and were more willing to act if they did. Wasn't a huge concern for me, because, I always treated GFs with respect, even when I was a little heathen. But, the worry was there. - Keith

      I was quite upset with my older sister when I found out 6 MONTHS later that she had a guy she had turned down start stalking her and sending threatening emails to her current boyfriend from a fake email address. I think she knew how I would react and didn't want to have to bail me out of jail!

    I love this song and it’s soft threat. I never had any men in my life who would do this for me, which is probably part of why I ended up in an abusive relationship for 5 yrs. The men in my life (brother and father) that were still here when I started dating just didn’t care enough to protect me.
    I’m told my maternal grandfather, great-grandfathers, and maternal great-great grandfather were very protective men.
    Way back in the day, two things were known about my maternal great-great grandfather: he was very protective of females and he always followed through on a “gun warning.”
    When my great-grandmother was a little older than toddler-age, her father found out about s. abuse going on between a neighbor and the man’s teen daughter. When the girl ran to my great-great grandmother for protection, my great-great grandfather met her at the door with his gun, told her go inside and sit with my wife and do not come out till I walk inside. It wasn’t a half hour before the abusive father showed up on the homestead and my gggf shouted at the man, whom was still a good distance from the house, that if he came to collect his daughter he best turn around and go home. The man continued to walk up to the house, screaming about how his daughter was his business and he’d drag her out bloody if he had to. My great-great grandfather cocked his gun, looked right at the man, and said “if you take one more step toward my house I’ll kill you before your back foot hits the ground.” The man stepped.
    My great-great grandfather wasn’t even charged. But the story got around. And he had two daughters who were treated very very very respectfully by their suitors and then husbands.

    My dad is a retired state police officer. He wanted me (his daughter and only child) to be protected. My dad and younger brother were so known for hunting and having guns, that when a married man tried putting the moves on me, I just said "My dad or my brother...you choose who I call." And that was the end of that. He moved like the wind to get away from me.
    He really didn't have a choice, if he hadn't backed off, I would have called both.

The funny thing was is that the dad actually liked and got along well with the boy his son was going on a date with but just had to 'clean the gun' as the dad said that he had the right as a father to protect his child on a 1st date no matter the gender and let anyone who would date his son that he meant business. Should also point out that again the father did like the boy who treated his son very well so much that the boys are now married.

    So I grew up listening to Classical music and some Christian music (mainly hymns and scripture songs). I got into country music in college and I'm finally feeling somewhat versed in country music. I know there are a ton of genres in rock music just like in country music. I haven't listened to a ton of rock and don't even really know where to start. I've heard and enjoyed Halestorm because I was super impressed by a duet Lzzy Hale did with Eric Church. What other groups would you recommend I start with?

    • @BourbonCountryReacts
      @BourbonCountryReacts 11 місяців тому +1

      Oh man, where to start. It might depend on how modern, and how heavy your tastes run. IIRC, you have a pretty serious musical ear, so, late 80s Metallica would provide a good baseline. I'd particularly recommend the Master of Puppets album. You're going to hear classical themes in it. Older, a little lighter (but not much) would be Iron Maiden. In particular, I'd point you to the Powerslave album. It combines classical and blues scales with some pretty wild history-based, and surprisingly intellectual lyrics. - Keith

      @@BourbonCountryReacts awesome! I've heard of those groups, but I don't think I've ever purposely listened to any of their music! I just love music and want to expose myself to as much as possible! Music is a universal language of the soul IMO. I feel blessed to have been given a classical foundation as a child. I am frequently surprised when I find classical motifs in various genres of music. It's fascinating to me to see how many famous artists have a classical background before launching into their respective genres and styles.

    Most of High school I dated the same boy... and he was as interested in girls as I was, meaning not at'tall. ( I was a cover story, he kept guys from harassing me.)
    Anywho... mom... every other boy I brought home got to see mom's skill with a kitchen knife, which may or may not have been effective on its own... nope.
    It was the rusty knife that sat in front of the chopping block. Any ..I mean ANY country boy that grew up on a farm would know exactly what that curved blade was for. ( now-a-day's they use a clap tool and rubber band).
