      That's what I've been saying for a long time now, the problem is we have tree huggers, green pacers, special intrest, false information from China and russia, and uneducated bleeding hearts, corrupt competitors, corrupt politicians, and more legal road blocks and red tape than you can imagine, that's why canada is so great 🙃 not

      Gulf coast refiners because of their scale can get it done at a much lower cost than it would take to build out facilities to refine it in Canada. Then there’s the issue of getting a cheap way to ship it to final customers.

    • @Fox1Delta
      @Fox1Delta 10 днів тому +8

      @@Boog_masskway True, but it keeps us reliant on one customer. Bite the bullet, build the pipelines and refinery and bring the profits home.

    • @pax256
      @pax256 10 днів тому +3

      @@Boog_masskway The pipelines that ship oil, can ship fuel. And fuel has a much bigger market than simple heavy crude. As is we are stuck with one customer who gets a 30-40% discount on oil sales because they know we cant sell heavy crude to anyone else. A newly built refinery would be highly efficient and cost competitive as long as it is a large one for economies of scale. We already have refiners in Canada that do well. The Irving refinery in NB exports 90% of what it refines mostly to the US. So its obviously possible to refine effectively and economically here. Id tell the gulf coast refiners to move their refinery here and if not build our own. Once the gulf coast refineries lose its cheap canadian oil they will be stuck. Shut down. Buy oil from US enemies like Venezuela or Iran which the US gov wont likely allow. Or move tor Canada.

      What this guest isn't pointing out is the population difference

      That means the US has greater buying power. Their production can sustain themselves and supply to outside. Whereas it is more difficult for Canadian companies to sustain itself within just Canadian borders, it requires to sell outside its borders.
      Second.
      He doesn't talk about the value of the Canadian dollar. It is easy for Trump to implement tarrifs because with a lower Canadian dollar, the over value American dollar (and rising) will absorb the cost of the tarrifs.

  • @berwick777
    @berwick777 7 днів тому +1

    Canada’s interprovincial trade barriers are estimated to act like a 21% tariff on internal trade. This figure, derived from a 2019 IMF study, highlights the significant economic impact of these barriers, which impede the flow of goods and services between provinces. The barriers not only raise prices but also reduce productivity and overall economic growth within Canada.
    Moreover, experts estimate that eliminating these barriers could boost Canada's GDP by up to $200 billion annually, enhancing productivity and competitiveness, and MORE than offset the damage expected from Trump's threatened tariffs. The Business Council of Alberta stated “One of the profound ironies of Canada’s focus on foreign trade is that, in many cases, it is actually easier for Canadian companies to do business across international borders than it is within our own country.”
    An overwhelming 88% of small businesses in Canada believe that eliminating trade barriers should be a top priority for Canadian governments.
    There you go fellow Canadians. We did it to ourselves.

    The discussion centers around the actual loss of Canada's independence and sovereignty, which I see as a "Belarusization" of Canada. The pressing question is: who would take on the role of Alexander Lukashenko in this scenario? From my perspective, Trump’s goal is to achieve this through a trade war-crushing Canada’s economy and then acquiring devalued assets at a bargain. While it’s clear this would harm the U.S. economy and its citizens too, it seems that Trump is indifferent to these consequences, just as he appears to disregard the suffering of Canadians.
    This reminds me of Putin’s tactics in Ukraine before 2014, when he worked to bring Yanukovych to power, take control of the country’s assets, and shape its politics. We all know where that led-a major war once Ukraine refused to integrate into the "Russian world." The question now is: will Canadians be willing to embrace MAGA and its implications? Frankly, it’s a bleak outlook.
    I believe the border issue is just a pretext-Putin had plenty of similar excuses during his time. Let’s not fall into the trap of thinking Canada can buy its way out of this situation. Just like with Putin’s actions in Ukraine, I feel that Trump is aiming for total control. The choice seems stark: either surrender immediately, as Georgia did in 2008, or unite and prepare for a long, tough fight.

    Canada has everything that North America manufacturing and consumers need and has been a secure and reliable partner for a hundred years. Canada exports almost 80% of what it produces to US companies that use those inputs or to US consumers. Canada also imports more than 50% of what it needs from US companies. Canada never joined OPEC and levered its energy advantage against America when many other countries were. Canada's goods are priced at a 60-70 cents on the US dollar- a real bargain for American firms and consumers. Let's remember that a 25% tariff on Canadian raw materials, and energy coming to the US is actually paid for by American manufacturers and ultimately American consumers who (like Canadians) are really feeling strong inflationary forces that are reducing their buying power and quality of life. Seems like a 25% tariff would be really hurtful to US businesses and consumers as well as trusted Canadian suppliers.

Look at what the US imports and exports. Tariffs and Trump trade talk will harm American companies first. The US manufacturing sector is dependent on imports. Their exports are dependent on a strong manufacturing sector.

Quebec will always be a thorn in the side of ROC, a province with such a large wealth of resources will always be a "HAVE NOT" province because the formula for transfer payments will always be change to benefited Quebec at the direct cost to ROC... Quebec is the lazy teenager mooch off of ROC, no other province is given such benefits... the removal of James Bay Hydro is a bribe to Quebec... even Newfoundland became a "HAVE" province due to its resources,.... Quebec is preventing pipelines to Eastern Canada... Pierre set this up, using oil from Venezuela. Ontario get its oil from the US instead of directly from western Canada. the USA can stop the flow of oil to Ontario. Quebec offered $10 a day, daycare but cannot pay for this without the transfer payments... so the ROC pays for Quebec's foolish spending that they cannot support themselves.

    Interprovincial free trade made sense in the late 70s when Joe Clark suggested it, and it makes sense now. That would be great, and I can’t see why any province, today, would be against it. I’ve been to Come By Chance, in Newfoundland and let me tell you, it’s like it’s own city, not just a refinery. I knew when I seen it, that sending oil there, by pipeline would be the smartest thing we could. Give lots of work to Newfoundland, and send lots of oil from Alberta. Once refined we could send it to USA at full price, and quit selling, at a bargain price to USA. We need a liquified gas pipeline from Saskatchewan, and Alberta to BC. There it could be sent by ship, to Europe, bypassing Russia. It might take some time, but never, ever allow Canada, or its provinces, to be held for ransom, by another orange clown like Trump, or his ring master Elon Musk.

    All of those talk about building refineries is nice, but at whose expense?
    Alberta keeps 80% of it oil royalties. The fed only gets 20%.
    The time to do it was long ago.
    Instead, they handed out money to Albertans and never implemented a provincial tax.
    If any government is going to or should have spent the money, it should have been Alberta.
    They claim the oil is theirs until they need a pipeline built and now a multi year multi-billion dollar refinery.
    It's time to rewright that oil deal with Alberta since they have squandered their royalties.
    The amount of money they could have put into a sovereign fund would have paved their roads in gold, and no one there should be homeless.
    Where is the money?
    We forget Pierre Trudeau tried to do this with Petro Canada, and the conservatives screwed that up and sold it off.
    Now, what, we should do it again?
    Just how stupid, are we?
    And we call Americans idiots.
    Canadians are smart but very lazy long-term thinkers.
    We took the easy money thinking it would never come back to bite us.
    What in US history has ever demonstrated any sense of fairness?
    We're being plundered for our resouces. While blaming the very people we need to make us grow and develop a large enough market to compete on the world stage and support a domestic economy.
    Yes, we need housing, but we also need 100 million people to create a domestic market so we can support Canadian developments.
    If we consume and refine more of the raw resources we export to the US, we'd be in a better place.

    Tariffs don't work like people think. If Canada imposes its own tariffs, then that will make Canadians suffer just like Americans will suffer in a trade war. Tariffs are coming to Canada. Canada should not tariff the US in response. They should raise the cost of products. That helps Canadians not hurt them. Canada has thousands of products that they could raise the price on especially lumber and special minerals. And I am talking at least doubling the price of many things that the US buys from Canada. But put legislation in place that those prices are not also double for Canadians. If there is a trade war, Canada holds the bigger guns. With the flick of a switch 7 stated would be in the dark in one day. If Danielle Smith wasn't such a traitor Canada could also control Oil going to the states. I hope that Trump tariffs the Albertan oil. That would bring Smith back on the side of "right".
