One of ABBA’s most beautiful songs. Typical of most ABBA’s songs, it has the intriguing melodic combination of joy with melancholy., happiness and sadness at the same time.
+Eduardo Forneck Yeah, Abba is one of the rare instances where nearly their entire catalog is without a misstep or artistic divergence. So many good acts are only good for their 2-3 singles per album and the rest is insufferable. With Abba, it's the opposite, their biggest hit (Here in the States) Dancing Queen, is FAR from their best work, though still classic in its own right.

ABBA was comprised of some of the most talented performers, musicians, and writers in the business. This is my favorite song of theirs of all time - I have never gotten tired of it in over 43 years of listening to it.
@@amyclarke41 It certainly got to number one in the UK. Yes, Benny and Bjorn were the songwriters. According to Bjorn, Benny came up with more musical ideas than he did but Benny left writing the lyrics to Bjorn because Bjorn was so good at it. Moreover, in the early 1980s Benny and Bjorn wrote the music for Chess and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics.
ABBA has something that still nowadays I can't understand .. it's magic but at the same time is sad because it reminds me to days which will never come back :(
Dear Adriana, someone once told me, there is no future in the past.I have thought on this saying alot these days now that I am 60yrs old. be happy in these days and remember not to take life for granted.
The bridge section of Super Trouper is the best thing they ever wrote - amazingly subtle and so much in a few seconds of music. The moments of pure magic and the storytelling in every song is what puts ABBA in the category of genius.
Indeed, most bands could have based an entire career on that fabulous 15 seconds at 3:00, but ABBA just throw it at the end of the song. Yeah, I’d agree, one of the best things they ever wrote. Just a shame the rest of the song is nowhere near as good.
I heard one of the members (I think it was Benny) saying that they worked a lot on the recordings by dubbing the sounds and expanding them. Both guys are sound engineers. They wanted the sounds to be pretty rich and luxurious and to have a recognisable pattern. So it is artifice at its best.
Thank you, very much!
Abba never made you feel that they didn’t actually feel what was on their faces when they sang. You never doubted their sincerity. They had the most positive energy of any band back then, or since.

I'm from Glasgow and this song is quite popular at weddings and party's. I remember attending a few and every-time the line "I was sick and tired of everything, when i called you last night from Glasgow" came on the DJ would pause the Glasgow part and you'd hear a load of drunk Glaswegians shouting GLASGOW at the top of there voices, it always made me laugh
That’s the most Glasgow story I can think of. I spent four years there at uni, and you just can’t match the character that city and it’s people have. I miss it, now that I’m in England.

once i dreamed that the guys from abba were riding a bike near my house, then i looked at them and they sang the "supapa trupapa" part while moving their heads and waving at me. best dream i've ever had
I always loved this song, but never knew what "Super Trouper" actually meant. After I left school in 2006, I found a job at a local theater and worked as an assistant stagehand for almost a year. One day, my boss told me I had to operate the follow spot for an event the coming evening. He took me to the small booth behind the crowd, and showed me the huge black lamp. "There it is, our Super Trouper!" - Suddenly, it clicked. I finally realised what one of my favorite songs actually meant, after all these years. Fond memories!
It's the big damn light shining over them in the album cover, which, by the way, is a perfect album cover for their stature and the quality of the album's songs.
It's my birthday today so I thought I'd drop by on Abba's music. My mom and dad always listened to their music. I lost my father in June. I always get a phone call every year from him but this year is different. So I'm stuck listening to music he listened to :)
I was born in 1967 and remember when they burst into the scene in the mid 1970s. They were a breathe of fresh air and unique then and there has never been a group like them since. The perfect blend of catchy pop songs with great lyrics, melodies and the pure angelic voices of Agnetha and Frida. Pop perfection

@@angelacooper2661I'm 55 right now and my brother is three years younger. This was my favourite ABBA and it got a lot of spins in our house back in the day.
It's such a beautiful song about a kind of existential depression and isolation. Imagine being in front of the world and being desperately lonely. Oddly, you can hear this clearly in the music.
could just as easily be Björn´s story. He had a girlfriend, who he married in jan.1980, after the divorce from Agnetha. Björn is still married to Lena, his 2nd wife.
This takes me back to Xmas 1980. I was 9 years old. It was the best Xmas I have ever had as a child that year. I can remember all my presents. Started to go downhill that year as my parents split, I was homeless at 16 etc. But I bounced back quick in the years that followed. I even have my own big home now all paid for. But I will never forget that Xmas. Thanks Abba for the memories. Always brings tears for some reason...
Bizarre you should say about Xmas. When I started listening to this song I was thinking back to when I was 8 that year and just thinking about lying down on my back, looking up into our tree that year with one of my toys in hand! 👍

I’m so thankful to my parents for showing me “ABBA” during my childhood. My parents are now in their 60s and have slight health issues. I’m listening to this song today at the airport after a week-long vacation with my parents and my two sisters, not knowing when is the next time we can all meet again :) sigh. Thank you dear Daddy and Mummy for introducing us to ABBA ❤️ tears :) EDIT: My father passed away a week ago (21st Jan 2024). During his last few days, we played all his favourite songs including the songs by ABBA. He wasn't very keen on eating during his last days, but listening to the songs he loved truly made him smile from within and gave him some sort of peace beyond human understanding.
ABBA to me, epitomises everything that is fine, clean, bright n beautiful. There were no scandals, no drugs, no debauchery. They could have done anything as they were so dizzily popular. The music they created too is ethereal. I'm sure Mortzart would have been a fan of theirs if he lived during this time. What a fabulous group.
I'm 22 and I would have loved to be around the time that ABBA was a complete success. Can you imagine going to parties with ABBA music? It must have been great! Maybe I was born at the wrong time, I don't know
Life was easier in those days, it's true. But it's not really important. You Can feel the hapiness of this Time in their songs, which touched Your Heart and soul. I'm almost 50 and still listen Abba 40 years After discover it .
Abba's music, both the infectious music and singable lyrics were always so clever. Their master of the pop hook and the accompanying clever lycis is simply astounding. They are unmatched in the pop world.

same here, me 74 y/o and listening right now February 26, 2024 🌉🇺🇸❤️🫶🏼🤚🏽
😮was it no 1? and I think Bjorn and Benny wrote the songs and the women sang ?a
Such a sweet song. And not sickly sweet like some songs can be. This is class
WOW FRIDA'S VOICE SOUND SO ANGELICAL ! WHAT A TALENT !
Anni-Frid doesn’t get enough love. What a gem of a voice 💖
She’s my favorite member of the group. I love her solo hit, “I Know There’s Something Going On”, which Phil Collins produced
I love her
@@abinashmishra329 With Collins signature gated reverb drums sounding huge
TBH I thought it was Anna..This was one of there biggest hits so that’s good
Anni-Frid certainly is a great singer. May personal favorite, however, is Agnetha Fältskog.
This is the first album I ever owned. My momma bought for me I was about 11 years old. Mamma knows best. This is so beautiful! xxx

You are the Dancing Queen!
Well that's your preference, there's no harm in that 😊
ABBA has something that still nowadays I can't understand .. it's magic but at the same time is sad because it reminds me to days which will never come back :(
What more can be said after reading your words?
adriana ponzio Sort of bittersweet in a way.
I can’t agree more
adriana ponzio There's something haunting about their music
Dear Adriana, someone once told me, there is no future in the past.I have thought on this saying alot these days now that I am 60yrs old. be happy in these days and remember not to take life for granted.
IM FROM SWEDEN AND IM SO PROUD THAT PPL FROM OTHER STATES LIKES THEIR MUSIC
Wish i could visit sweden someday 😊
I played all their hits while on my radio job in West Virginia in the USA in the mid 70s to early 80s
.
Thank my mom and dad for raising me heavily on ABBA. I’ve been listening to them since I was 2, and my love for them has only grown 🥰🥰🥰
The bridge section of Super Trouper is the best thing they ever wrote - amazingly subtle and so much in a few seconds of music. The moments of pure magic and the storytelling in every song is what puts ABBA in the category of genius.
Nailed it! Exactly right.
Exactly!!
Indeed, most bands could have based an entire career on that fabulous 15 seconds at 3:00, but ABBA just throw it at the end of the song. Yeah, I’d agree, one of the best things they ever wrote. Just a shame the rest of the song is nowhere near as good.
I agree… among my favorite moments in any ABBA song (or any other song, for that matter).
That bridge is pure magic and I wish it could never end. I'm addicted to this song.
Sang this song at one of my elementary concerts. Such a beautiful song I will never forget my music teacher who introduced me to ABBA.
So simple ,. 2 girls 2 guys, piano and guitar = Absolute Perfection. the real deal
yes --- it's perfection; but it's not simple; it's the brilliance of Anni-Frid & Agnetha, the best female vocal duo ever
@@victorhaltom1448 Nah it's way more than that. Producers, other band members (drummer, bassist, etc.), and so on
Perfect but not simple, you can hear a real orquestra behind it
I heard one of the members (I think it was Benny) saying that they worked a lot on the recordings by dubbing the sounds and expanding them. Both guys are sound engineers. They wanted the sounds to be pretty rich and luxurious and to have a recognisable pattern. So it is artifice at its best.
That sounds like the start of a good foursome if you ask me
Thank you, very much!
Abba never made you feel that they didn’t actually feel what was on their faces when they sang. You never doubted their sincerity. They had the most positive energy of any band back then, or since.
ironically this song is about insincere performers (not saying ABBA are insincere)
1980

Frida has the voice of an angel...with an amazing range. And the two women together produce a sound that no one else has ever heard.
I loved ABBA as a child and love them even more as a forty something now, so do my kids.... Your music makes me so alive, happy and delirious with joy..... Thank you for the music....
Truly an angelic blending of phenomenal talent, including the two male songwriters who are writing in a foreign language for Chrissakes!
Scott Amundsen amazing
Together both girls produce heavenly magic ! ...............
Yes, you are right, they both have wonderful and awesome voices, but when together, wow!!!!!!!!
Harmonies, melodies, vocals, song structure and pure class.
Nothing comes close to ABBA.
I still don’t know what is it about Sweden that makes them so good at making music, anything from pop to metal is just top quality
thats a foolish claim...ridiculous
Beatles. Beach Boys. Lots of groups are as or more talented. But ABBA is top 10.
TRUE!!
@@sfl5086 Benny and Bjorn could have written Help but John and Paul could never write The Day Before You Came.
Dear ABBA, since i was 15 (in 1975) I have been a FAN. Like they say now, a guilty pleasure, NO not at all. No guiltiness, you are so sincere, honest and discrete. You deserve all appreciation. You helped me through the times with your music, happiness and sadness.
I am therefore ten years younger than you, as I was five in 1975. ABBA takes me back to childhood memories!
Im a teen in high school and im literally obsessed with ABBA
(This is just to the people putting mean comments. Guys please stop, I never compared myself to other kids, I never said oh im special just because I like this music. All I said was that I really like ABBA and I always will)
KingOfPop 1958 same... While all my friends listen to Billie Eilish or Lil Peep, I listen to ABBA, BeeGees and other artists from the 70s and 80s
saaaame here. my mom used to love them as a kid and now it’s passed on to me lol
Same
Thank god it’s not just me

It seems like every ABBA song was a hit! At least most of the songs sound way more familiar to me than for example Madonna, Elton John and co. They made so many famous songs, its amazing!
fjellyo32 Best selling band after the Beatles.
seems like? .. they WERE a monster hit every time.. bjorn and benny where and are still the MOST famous swedish producers of all time ;) with good reason..
please dont use the names Madonna and Elton John in the same sentence!
fjellyo32 agree considering they are swedish as well.
That's the difference between the good and the great, they had hit after hit after hit. It's a cliche but they really don't make em like they used to.
1:28 this guy looks really happy when he sings it, and it makes me happy.
😂
Me too
He wrote this song.
Benny Andersson! I agree, seeing him sing so happily, even for a few seconds, makes me happy too
I always liked how Benny and Bjorn sang along in their music videos
From a person who lives in Glasgow, I approve of this song.

@MrEd315 yep , why?
ABBA is the only group that can make me cry even when their songs are happy
Their songs are mostly sad
theres a strong sense of bittersweetness to many ABBA songs. I can't explain it exactly.
Dancing Queen is about aging and death. Only a European band can weave in the sadness/melancholy in a seemingly happy song the way they do
dude u get it right, when i listen to Abba music i feel like crying while am enjoying d music oo,na they remember us wt story of young, old and there after
I'm so self conscious enjoying music around other people, because the best music makes me cry. The happiest I ever feel and I can't help express it without tears.
I was 18 back in 2001 when my father gave me collection of ABBA cd's and immediately fell in love with their songs...its october 2024 now....i am 41 now...father of a 4 year girl....and i introduced her to ABBA on TV....n she loves them.....thank u dad....thank u ABBA for the music....❤

That is why the video starts with the lightning guy blinding us
Wow, thank you, now I know!
Yes thank you so much. I didn’t know what it meant either. It shows you don’t have to understand everything but can still recognise genius.
@@wjrs5 Yeah, my native language is german and as a kid/teen, I didn't understand english well enough to fully comprehend what the lyrics meant, haha!
It's the big damn light shining over them in the album cover, which, by the way, is a perfect album cover for their stature and the quality of the album's songs.

It's such a beautiful song about a kind of existential depression and isolation. Imagine being in front of the world and being desperately lonely. Oddly, you can hear this clearly in the music.

It is the story of Agnetha
And Beethoven was deaf... Sometimes it takes suffering to be great.

I swear everything ABBA does is just perfection.
Whenever it’s Christmas and I wanna listen to ABBA, I listen to this song. 🎄💫☕️

Their music was so awesome back in the 70’s and 80’s and their looks were so… so European! My mom used to wear that kind of clothes even way into the 90’s. She was from Germany.
I’m so thankful to my parents for showing me “ABBA” during my childhood.
My parents are now in their 60s and have slight health issues. I’m listening to this song today at the airport after a week-long vacation with my parents and my two sisters, not knowing when is the next time we can all meet again :) sigh.

Timeless... Every generation loves ABBA... Still as fresh today as they were in the 70s... Brilliant band ❤

Abba's music, both the infectious music and singable lyrics were always so clever. Their master of the pop hook and the accompanying clever lycis is simply astounding. They are unmatched in the pop world.
