Very interesting. Especially so considering the tracks that took years to come to fruition. Swan Song/Midnight Moonlight took 15 years or so to come together!!!!!
Why did they hold it in the vault so long? They did not think it was good enough to be included in the previous albums? Great stuff with this type of videos. Thanks and please do continue.
Per Wikipedia, engineers Harwood and/or Nevison had problems with the '72 Stargroves master tapes (missing guitar, or incomplete?), and final overdubs were added later. It's a shame, because this one, Custard Pie, and 'Houses' would have been perfect to include on the album. Cut out No Quarter, throw 'D'yer Maker and The Crunge together as a radio-friendly single, and you've got a stealth HOTH!
Thank you very much for this. The Rover is a song that was not often played live and most of us are only familiar with the album version. As a guitar player it was great to hear all these nuances and different fills that Jimmy played.
Great comment because it's very true as this song is very hard to find... such an EXCELLENT catchy rhythm end result vocals were bang-on and by far best choice
Plant was a Hippie and definitely came up w/"just join hands" hippity-dippity part ! Man I am Glad Page made it Metallic ! What a great RIFF ! Way 2 Go J.P. !
Im pretty sure they didnt played it fully cause the chorus have 2 guitars in the studio version, and playing live the chorus arpeggio without the rythm guitar would sound empty in that part...thats why they only played the first part... Page could play just the rhythm guitar,to sound fuller, but without the arpeggio, the magic is gone... In the only full live version available,Page play the chorus arpeggio in a different way to fill more the sound, but dont sounds good...thats the reason why...
@Ryan_Thompson_Guitarist True but I'm gonna guess that Over The Hills was a more popular song, was released as a single and almost needed to be played, as opposed to the rover which I don't believe was ever released as a single and on top of that, the range needed to sing that song probably put them in a position where they could throw it out.
The live performance in Australia or New Zealand was around the same time as they were recording " Houses If The Holy". The Rover was almost on that album and was played to a music journalist called Ritchie Yorke by Jimmy Page in the Summer of 1972. It's possibly one of the best " unknown" Zep songs of all time.
I remember these when I was 18 years old in 2015-2016, I had downloaded these demos and outtakes individually, so someone putting them together is like totally cool
I'm watching Wray and Mayorkas grilled by law makers in House Homeland security Committe, but the comments are about Led zeppelin and the song The Rover...LOL
if any one has ever pickup a guitar and said let me play like Jimmy Page king of rock swagger those riffs those fingers .....yeah play on....100 yrs nobody could beat this master player
Should I do more “Evolution of...” videos?
Yes!
God damn yes , and maybe the first and the last of each song and the best and the worst , that will be a banger
Very interesting. Especially so considering the tracks that took years to come to fruition. Swan Song/Midnight Moonlight took 15 years or so to come together!!!!!
@@pointblank8216 I already did something similar with Immigrant Song
Absolutely 💯!!!!
I almost crashed my vehicle many a times while cranking The Rover....great driving tune.
Not sure it's a good tune to drive on for you then lol
@Ledzepnut that's what makes it a great driving tune lol
I LOVE The ROver, you never hear it played...Heavy, Awesome, one of Zeps great underrated tracks...Love this evolution of it as a WIP
Oh god im crying really this 1970 acoustic riff is really good
One of my favorite songs. 👍
Why did they hold it in the vault so long? They did not think it was good enough to be included in the previous albums? Great stuff with this type of videos. Thanks and please do continue.
Well u can hear it get better as time goes on and they released it when it was perfected
@@DannySpatula I agree the final recording is perfect
Omg, never gets old..
Why did you cut off the first rehearsal? That is so rare... Those magical vocals..
we all know the influence of the blues on this band, and this audio is the most illustrative of that fact.
Thanks for sharing these gems… ✌️❤️
🖐🍷
rover❤
Thanks .. from Chile
It went from country folk rock to Funky hard rock
Oh nice!
i love you
Where is that 1974 rehearsal recording from?
Headly grange I think
@@ledzeppelinclips874 do you know where to find the whole thing?
@@sheatiller2465 I’m going to post the rehearsal to show how they made the album soon
That would be awesome! Looking forward to hearing that! Thank you!

Custard Pie wasn't recorded during Houses Of The Holy.
@@devanworkman8745 I stand corrected; thanks. I assumed it was b/c of the energy and production sound. It sounds very much like a HOTH outtake.
👌🏼🙏🏼
Thanks very much. It's strange, how long this song came into its own. It's my favorite of theirs.

This song Is really awesome! 🤩 One of the most beautiful of Zeps
Nicely done! Yeah, for people into deep-dives of great songs, this kinda evolution vid is really cool.
Easily one of the greatest songs of all time
I cannot even say what a treasure it is! A pure gem!! Keep on going. Thank you❤️
Hated the fact that it was relegated to an intro for Sick Again. The song always stood strongly on its own.
The death of music has not been greatly exaggerated. but if you were wondering what it used to sound like this is the band to hear.
I played the cover of this with our student band in 1977-1980
No way!
It must have been awesome.
The song question remains the same: Why did they NEVER play the complete song live? It was a great song, better than "Sick Again" for sure.
I feel they should’ve played the full Rover, then sick again back to back, like the song remains the same + rain song
I think it was because Robert's voice was shot and those notes are high

@@icivmusic Never stopped him singing Over The Hills And Far Away

I think they started recording houses of The Holly way after There Australian tour around mid 1972
No conocía la evolución de The Rover, amazing!. Este video es una joya!
The movie the song remains the same inspired me to play guitar like Jimmy page as a teenager 😂. 😂❤
When Giants Walked the Earth- Plant is so Coked up...
Interesting. It starts out primitive sounding and they gradually fill it out and add nuances.
I love this, very informative. Thank you for uploading this!
It started out really complex and "busy" the "simpler" they refined it the better it got.
" The Rover" is great song in the time 👍.
1:06 Highway Tune be like
The acoustic rehearsal sounds like something Ghost would write
Hmmmm, I’ve never thought that before but I kind of agree…
Led zeppelin dinossauros do rock pesado 🇧🇷👍🤘👏👏👏👏

Exellent 👏 👏 👏 👏
tyvm for sharing this is one of my favourite tunes of all time.
The way Jimmy plays the riff in 72 sounds like Greta Van Fleet lol
Awesome. Appreciated
Totally AWESOME ……………..!

Gives depth in different aspects.
The intro sounds a tad like Polly Wants a Cracker ( Nirvana). This was outstanding! Thank you for sharing it!
The rover is my all time favorite Zep song with Kashmir
I like the way Zep slows this one down. Keeps the funk and blues elements
Sick
Again
Definitely :)) why do you even ask..
Yes and thank you for sharing this.
Feb 1974? What bootleg is that?
Yes, most definitely !
Led zepellin um zeppelin de chumbo almenta que isso ai rockn roll
Flower power e rock n roll
Robert Plant wrecks this song --- too bad the music is really good (eventually).
? The lyrics and vocals are essential on the Physical version. He sounds ragged in the evolution but the finished product is great
