Yeah I agree with you on that. Can some have a message to them? Of course, but that really doesn’t mean they all need too. Like you said they can just be fun, but I feel people forget about this nowadays thinking everything’s has to have a meaning to it. Idk that’s just my interpretation on what I’ve seen ¯\_( ツ)_/¯
It doesn't need to because short films can have different purposes, like help the crew polish their skills, give them a break from a main project, train interns and new crewmembers, give a crewmember a chance to work on a project of their own, give crewmembers something to do while a main project is still in preproduction, and most importantly, to test out new technologies for future projects.
I’m really shocked by how low Geri’s game is. I know it’s not the best short out there, but still it’s decent. The way how I looked at it is him reliving some nice times with a friend who has past on. But you know we all have different opinions.
@@ne3856 Yup, it was going to be based on the Pixar short “Tin Toy.” It was about a department store, which, at night, was run by a vicious gang of modern toys, who ruled the shelf fronts, forcing all the uncool toys (like the Tin Toy) in the back. Lotso-Huggin’ Bear was created for this short, where he appeared as a gang leader/mafia don, rather than the prison warden he became in “Toy Story 3.” This original version of Lotso can briefly be seen at the beginning of the original Toy Story, as a reference to the cancelled Christmas special.
Yeah, A Tin Toy Christmas Special was concieved by Pixar around the time of the Disney deal (where Pixar had to make 5 completely computer-animated films in the next 10 years). Since Disney wanted a full feature film, not a special, the idea evolved to the completely original idea of Toy Story, which would be premiered at El Captian Theatre in LA on November 19, 1995. The short was to feature Tinny as a forgotten toy, trying to find ways to be sold or something like that (I only have heard about it on Wikipedia weeks ago). (EDIT : VCJunkie explains the plot better in an earlier reply) Also, the reason they never wanted to make a film purely with an all-human character cast is because the plastic texture of toys would be easier to use, since human-like texture wasn't too... developed, but the more chrome-and-plastic esc. style had been widely used since the early 1980s, so it was a go-to for most, if not all, computer animators. Also, fun fact- to make Toy Story, Pixar used Silicon Graphics Inc. workstation computers!
Meh. I don’t really think a short needs a message or anything to make it great so much as entertainment value. If a short needs a message to be great, the majority of classic cartoon shorts in existence would be considered ‘bad’.
Me too I’m 14 now and I would always watch that red DVD with a couple old Pixar shorts, I would sit in moms old caravan that had a screen in the middle and we popped that in and just enjoyed everything to see

this sparked so much nostalgia in me I can't even- I used to have a disc that was a compilation of around eight(?) of these shorts one after another, and holy shit seeing most of these again was quite something
Lou is a very touching film especially, because it's made clear by the end that the motivation of the lost and found "monster" was to simply return all its individual toys to their owners. A very Toy Story-esque short! Honestly I could almost believe it takes place in the same world, where normally inanimate objects work together to help one another get back to their people. It's also just a REALLY creative concept that a pile of children's belongings can move and have a combined personality and goal while still being very expressive and funny.
12:12 In your friend the rat, it’s actually Abandon Musophobia which is fear of rats and mice, Jack Jack Attack and Your Friend The Rat are my favorite shorts from Pixar
There’s actually a new one that I absolutely love which was released with Raya and the last Dragon. The choreography, visuals, and story was amazing to see. An old married man who couldn’t be bothered with the past of dancing like his wife until a rainstorm comes out and makes them young again and brings out the man’s spark again. However no miracles ever last with the storm drifting away and the man trying to make the moment last by pursuing the cloud while dancing his heart away with his beloved. Eventually there’s no where left to go and the storm takes off, leaving a puddle behind to show the sparks of joy never left him in the first place with the short ending with the two dancing at the carnival. Absolutely beautiful work from Pixar here, to bad the main movie was too simplistic and linear for my taste.
Boundin' is still my favorite of these shorts to this day. I'm sure nostalgia gives it most of its staying power, but the folksy vibe and story put to song still provides a cozy mood. Knick Knack always sits high on my list because of the music alone. And Lava rounds out my top 3 because I'm a sap.
There was a more recent short that I think is from Pixar called loop. It's about this boy who has to share a canoe with an autustic girl. They actually had a nonverbal autistic person involved Wich is awesome and it portrays it really well. At least I think so as an autistic person myself. That's one of my favorite shorts. Another favorite of mine is kit bull Wich is just cute
I was going to mention this short aswell, as an autistic gale I appreciate that there's more positive representation of our community without any sugar coating. But I think I love about the show is the main character, the boy. It just really illustrates how I wish to be treated, with kindness and patience. He doesn't really understand the girl but he still treat her with respect. I wish more people were like that.
I'm on the autism spectrum too (Asperger's Syndrome, or level 1 autism), and Loop is my definite favorite, because it's about darn time we got some accurate representation in media! And Kitbull is also one of my favorites!
15:16 This sounds like it's closer to The Little Prince than Mario Galaxy (which, to be fair, the former did help inspire the latter). Still, this is now at the top of my watch list.
I remember hearing a story about Luxo Jr. Basically there was this computer animation convention that met once a year in the 80s, where people would show a sphere going around in a circle and everyone would go ballistic. After making Luxo Jr, they took it to the convention, and everybody LOST IT. Think everyone's reaction to the Endgame portal scene but 10x more insane and for a short film about a lamp. THAT's how revolutionary Luxo Jr truly was.
Piper is my favourite short, period. Gorgeous sound and animation, self-contained, feel-good story, and cute as heck. But I'm also biased towards animals like birds, cats, etc... (no cats in that short... and I wish there was a short with cats, but....)
Appreciation for the attempt to include as much illiteration and rhyming as possible. That must've taken hours to pull off. Also I love the random segue into a bad Scottish accent when talking about the Brave short.

'Your Friend The Rat' was my entire childhood, you could play it on repeat and I would sit there and watch for hours. I also 100% agree with 'Piper', its really pretty and aesthetically pleasing, cute & simple with a good storyline it's a 9/10 for me! 'Burrow' is another one of my favorites I enjoy the style, it's simple, cute, & cartoonish. I really am waiting for a movie in the same style. I also love the story, it has a good moral, and overall it's really fun and enjoyable to watch! Super Cute!! I also have to shout out 'Kitbull' it was very moving, again simplistic in its own way but really pretty non the less. 'Dug's special Mission' is also a favorite of mine, personally because I love Dug 'Us again' was really enjoyable to watch so it's a definite 6/10 for me. 'The Blue Umbrella' & 'Presto' were also very enjoyable!
the very first clip in this video was responsible for Uniracers not having more prints "Shortly after the game's release, DMA Design was sued by Pixar for allegedly copying the unicycle design and concept from their 1987 short film Red's Dream. Mike Dailly, one of the developers at DMA Design, commented, "The problem with Pixar was that they seemed to think that any computer generated unicycle was owned by them." DMA Design lost the lawsuit, and as a result, Nintendo had to terminate production of further Unirally cartridges. According to Dailly, "The deal was that Nintendo wouldn't make any more carts so Unirally only sold the 300k initial run". Fellow DMA Design developer Robbie Graham recalled, "They took footage from Red's Dream and compared it to Unirally and the unicycles were virtually the same; this isn't a big surprise as there’s not a lot of ways you can bring life to a unicycle without looking like the one Pixar did. The judge - being the moron that he was - agreed."[3]"

Even though Geri's Game DOES have a message. "Sometimes, you have to make your own fun."

Like sometimes you don't need a deep hidden meaning behind having fun
It doesn't need to because short films can have different purposes, like help the crew polish their skills, give them a break from a main project, train interns and new crewmembers, give a crewmember a chance to work on a project of their own, give crewmembers something to do while a main project is still in preproduction, and most importantly, to test out new technologies for future projects.

'Dug's special Mission' is also a favorite of mine, personally because I love Dug
'Us again' was really enjoyable to watch so it's a definite 6/10 for me.
'The Blue Umbrella' & 'Presto' were also very enjoyable!
the very first clip in this video was responsible for Uniracers not having more prints
"Shortly after the game's release, DMA Design was sued by Pixar for allegedly copying the unicycle design and concept from their 1987 short film Red's Dream.

0:33 what’s that creepy music?
Ik this comment is two months old lol, but it’s River Twygz Bed from Super Paper Mario
Maybe you should do a Ranking every Marvel flim video. Since there are so many u could make it a two or three parter.
I'd just like to point out all the brilliant word play in this video. It's clear you had a lot of fun recording it!
I don't know why but Your Friend the Rat has always been my favorite.
Was I the only one who use to think that the birds in For the birds kinda looked like Sweety The Chick from those Jamster ringtones? lol
All I know is that Spark Shorts are freaking amazing and I love them.
2:28 Not as horrifying as ice age baby
Being confused in the cinema about if you walked into the wrong movie is so true.
Pixar should do a full-length theatrical Andre & Wally B movie with references to their other shorts, change my mind
I remember watching Geri's game over and over on my A Bug's Life vhs tape. Nostalgia
4:28 no wonder why he looked familiar. Also look at the cursed chicken man in the back
7:46
Same here weirdly, though I think it might be the THX logo was near it and I just associated the two.
Unrelated but i would love if you list all the background music you used in the video, would really appreciate it
7:52 Wait, you’re telling me this was real! I always thought it was some weird dream or something I had while being ill, and now you’re telling me it existed!

THAT WAS A MOTHER!!!!????
I mean.... if it appeared before a movie, you should have done it. Regardless if it's on Disney+ or not, it's on UA-cam.
The lizard at 14:18 looks like Charmander from Pokemon, except without the flame on the tail.
I had a vhs tape of bugs life and geris game was great
