Unterschaetztes Meisterwerk!
Even as an English speaker, with not good German, I get how great the part "Herbie Herbie" (58:--)is.Schumann as vocal writer is very great.
Here's the pdf of the libretto in German and English from naxos www.naxos.com/sharedfiles/PDF/8.572430-31_sungtext.pdf
Ich habe das Werk erst vor einem Jahr, durch die Abbado Ausgabe, kennengelernt. If it had had an opus number, I'm sure it would be better known. Die Sänger hier sind gut, aber... I find the Abbado interpretation more powerful.
Note the exceellent singing of the boys from Poilskie Slowiki ("The Polish Nightinggales") from Poznan at above all at 1:22:00 - 1:24:30 and 1:31:00 - 1:32:30.
The Britten/Harwood/Pears version will take a lot of beating!
57:10: High A Flat
Which orchestra is it? Which choirs?
Based on the date and the info given at the top, Berlin Opera of East Germany, before reunification.
Yeah, better, more ingenuous musically than Wagner.
ne plus ultra. This should become available on DVD!
