This is a remarkable work and brilliantly performed. Medtner would surely have been proud of this! The golden tone, range of color, deep expressivity without ever resorting to exaggerations.

Medtner's Third Concerto is one of the century's most lovely pieces in this form, a delicious rhapsody from start to finish, founded on a legend that had absorbed the composer all his adult life (the "Rusalka"). Its romantic theme in D flat in the final movement is one of the most affecting in any modern piano concerto and the whole work is ultra-sophisticated and satisfying on repeated hearings. I am so glad that you have learned it by heart and presented it here. However, it would have been a good plan to have the piano perfectly in tune first ! A good many of the treble notes are 'off'..

Oh my god you are an absolute legend for posting this video of your amazing performance. This is my favorite work of music of all time and up until this point I believe there was only one other video of a live performance on youtube (the one with St. Petersburg Philharmonic, cannot remember the pianist's name). That you can even play this piece at all, let alone interpret it so beautifully, is a marvel. Thank you immensely

Outstanding in every way! Thank you so much for this wonderful gift to the world! I look forward someday to your performances of the other two Medtner concertos in the future if possible(?)
The fact that all three masterful Medtner Concertos are not standard repertoire by now constitutes a musical travesty. Medtner's lifelong friend Rachmaninoff would surely cringe and be very saddened regarding this, if not be outright embarrassed regarding the current glut of barely average to competent performances of his own Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini and the second and third Concertos. One music lovers opinion only.

You may be aware that his close friend Rachmaninoff believed Medtner to be the better composer. I think a lot of the problem with Medtner really catching on is that it takes an EXCEPTIONAL pianist to make Medter's very dense textures comprehensible. His music requires a huge range of colour, an ability that even many globally famous pianists lack. No lesser a pianist than Vladimir Horowitz used to give all-Medtner recitals before leaving Russia but even HE struggled and failed to get Medtner accepted in the west. Please do listen to Medtner's own recordings of his own work. You do have to live with Medtner's music for a while, it's not immediately accessible - but - I believe - worth the effort.
